Book excerpt: Lao Tzu and The Bible: A Meeting Transcending Time and Space Yuan Zhiming Translated by Chen Shangyu Has God's light ever shone on the vast land of China-"Land of God, ' so named by her ancient ancestors? This book vividly recaptures God's universal light shown to the Chinese sage Lao Tzu 600 years before Jesus was born. By comparing Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching with the Bible, Yuan Zhiming offers a ground-breaking interpretation of Lao Tzu's Tao in light of the Word, or Logos. Yuan Zhiming juxtaposes Lao Tzu's "Holy One" with Jesus Christ, systematically and thoroughly unveiling the nature and characteristics of the mysterious Tao in a concrete and understandable manner, resolving a riddle of 2,600 years. "The text speaks to our time, because so many people believe that mere secular teaching of "morality," such as Confucius taught, is sufficient, and because what we really need is a deep spiritual awakening, such as Lao Tzu announced. The profound teaching in Lao Tzu and the Bible enriches the spirit of not only the Chinese people but also the people of the West." -Dr. Paul de Vries, president of New York Divinity School and author of The Taming of the Shrewd Lao Tzu and the Bible offers not only a spiritual feast to the analytical minds about Tao/Word/Logos, illustrating Tao in a tangible form, the Holy One/Jesus Christ, but also provides helpful advice about how to follow and be united with Tao. A work of great erudition and wisdom, it contains deep insight, opening up the secrets of the Tao while also illuminating the Bible. This book will surely delight the hearts and minds of seekers of Tao.

Download or read book Tao Te Ching written by Lao Tzu and published by . This book was released on 2021-02-17 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Limited Time Promotional Offer Tao Te Ching - The Classic Book of The Way And Virtue The Tao-Te-Ching is an anti-authoritarian treatise which posits that the way of virtue lies in non-action (Wu Wei) through a recognition of the natural, universal force known as the Tao. The Tao flows without effort and, like water, goes where it will without striving and effects change and growth. To be virtuous, one should emulate the Tao and engage in non-action (not forcing an effect or outcome). Human-made laws, it claims, cannot make one virtuous and cannot contribute to good behavior, inner peace, or empathy with others because they are not in tune with nature. It is only by recognizing the Tao, and one's connection to it and all things, that one may achieve these goals. To recognize the Tao, one must know what it is, and so it is defined in the first chapter: The Tao (The Way) that can be spoken of is not the Constant Tao; The name that can be named is not a Constant Name. Nameless, is the origin of Heaven and Earth; The named is the Mother of all things. Thus, the constant void enables one to observe the true essence. The constant being enables one to see the outward manifestations. These two come paired from the same origin. But when the essence is manifested, it has a different name. This same origin is called "The Profound Mystery." As profound the mystery as it can be, It is the Gate to the essence of all life. Lao Tzu: The Old Master Lao Tzu was an ancient Chinese philosopher and poet, well-known for penning the book Tao Te Ching. He was the founder of philosophy of Taoism, a religious and ethical custom of ancient China. He is largely respected as a religious deity in various traditional Chinese religious schools of thought. He is also believed by some to be an older contemporary of the famous philosopher Confucius. The 'Tao Te Ching', literally meaning 'The Way and Its Power' presents the idea of 'Tao' as being the end all and be all of existence. It is extremely powerful, yet down to earth. It is the source of all being in the world. The book intends to guide people on how to return to the laws and ways of nature to maintain the balance of the Tao. Lao Tzu's philosophy was a simple one. He was against putting effort and striving, as he thought struggle is not only futile but also hinders productivity. In his theory of 'wu-wei', he advises to simply do nothing. By this he means not to go against the forces of nature, wait for the gush of events nature brings to you and dive right in. He advised not to struggle to change the natural order of things, but to bring spontaneity to one's actions as one holds on to the nature's way of life. Followers of Taoism believe that striving for nothing will never lead them to failure. The one who has never failed is always successful, thus becoming powerful. Lao Tzu's journey began as he set foot towards the western border of China, currently Tibet. He was saddened by what he saw around him: men being diverted away from nature and the goodness it brings. A guard he met on the border asked Lao to write down his teachings as he went. This is when he wrote the famous Tao Te Ching, a 5,000 character account of his thoughts and philosophical ideas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biblical prophets and saints of old had access to spiritual portals to communicate with Yahweh and transport from one location to another as the spirit moved them. You have the ability to transport from the center of your mind to the Holy of Holies in heaven. Christ is the portal, and he is in us. This means the portal of heaven is inside of us. "Yahweh is in his holy temple, Yahweh's throne is in heaven" (Psalms 11:4). You are the temple of God and his spirit is dwells in you (1Corinthians 3:16, & 6:19). God is in you (his temple) on the throne inside of you. His throne is in heaven and this means heaven is within you. Christ said, "The kingdom of God is inside of you" (Luke 17:21). We are in God and he is in us. "In him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). If you are willing to make some changes and to dedicate some effort and time, the proper forms of meditation will carry you to wonderful places heretofore unknown by you. All you need to do is open the door.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do Jews, Muslims, and Christians worship the same God? Should Christians participate in Yoga or the martial arts? Christians today are constantly interacting with individuals, concepts, and practices from the world's religions. To be an effective witness and avoid embracing false ideas, it is essential for Christians to understand and evaluate the various religions from a biblical perspective. This book is designed to equip Christians for that task. Section one gives an overview of the major religions followed by a biblical critique. Section two presents an overview and biblical critique of popular religious ideas and practices such as alternative medicine, martial arts, and yoga. Section three addresses the challenges of religious pluralism and presents the author's defense for the unique and exclusive truth of Christianity. This is a needed resource for all who want to be an effective witness for Christ in a pluralistic world. "This is a handy, helpful handbook for witnessing to unbelievers from various and sundry religious perspectives." Dr. Norman Geisler, Christian scholar, apologist, author and founder of Southern Evangelical Seminary. "World Religions Through a Christian Worldview offers another excellent resource for learning about the beliefs of various religious groups and how they compare with the Bible. It will be helpful for Christians who want to understand and witness to members of these groups. Non-Christian readers will learn why Christianity is different from other religious claims." Download or read book Ecumenical Jihad written by Peter Kreeft and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Juxtaposing "ecumenism" and "jihad", two words that many would consider strange and at odds with each other, Peter Kreeft argues that we need to change our current categories and alignments. We need to realize that we are at war and that the sides have changed radically: many of our former enemies (e.g. Muslims) are now our friends, and some of our former friends (e.g. humanists) are now our enemies. Documenting the spiritual and moral decay that has taken hold of modern society, Kreeft issues a wake-up call to all God-fearing Christian, Jews and Muslims to unite together in a "religious war" against the common enemy of godless secular humanism, materialism and immorality. Aware of the deep theological differences of these monotheistic faiths, Kreeft calls for a moratorium on our polemics against each other so that we can form an alliance to fight together to save western civilization. He cites numerous examples of today's Protestants, Jews, Catholics and Muslims working together to solve moral and spiritual problems. God is calling for this unity, Kreeft says, and if we respond, God will do something wonderful.
