Book Ancient Mysteries And Modern Masonry

Download or read book Ancient Mysteries And Modern Masonry written by Charles H. Vail and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on 2013-10-24 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of these lectures is to consider the origin and nature of the Ancient Mysteries and Modern Masonry and to show the relation which they bear one to the other. Freemasonry deals largely with the morals and symbols of the Mysteries of Antiquity, and originally was one of the channels of Ancient Wisdom. There were a few among the founders of Modern Masonry who possessed the Royal Secret, or, at least, had a knowledge of its existence, and, if the key has been lost, the Mason, as Heir-apparent of the Old Wisdom, should be foremost in the search for its recovery. All agree that the Masonic symbols and traditions are of the greatest antiquity, and can be traced to the far East--to the earliest civilization, from which time and place they have spoken in nature's language to all peoples of the earth. We are more and more convinced that this picture language of our ritual contains a most complete philosophy--a knowledge embracing the eternal verities of the universe, and that these symbols were designed by the Initiates of old to preserve and convey that Ancient Wisdom to the present and future generations. Though empires and dynastic continents have appeared and passed away, these ancient symbols, hewn in rock-cut temples and monuments, have served to convey the Great Secret from ages past and will continue its record as long as this part of the universe remains.

Book Mystic Masonry

Download or read book Mystic Masonry written by Jirah Dewey Buck and published by . This book was released on 1897 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J. D. Buck explains and demystifies Freemasonry in this illustrated account of the secret society, their ritual practices and use of symbols to communicate their ideas. The author speaks in favor of the ethical principles and ideas of the Masons; their insistence upon moral rectitude and good behavior of its members supports the idea that Masonry aims to cultivate the highest virtues of humankind. Such preservation of humanity's greatest strengths is to be applauded: writing in the early 20th century, the author muses on the social and economic upheavals in a world that has rapidly changed amid industrialization. Addressing public curiosity on the links between Freemasonry and the ancient lore of the occult is one of Buck's primary aims. The various ancient mysteries dating back to the time when Egypt was under the rule of the Pharaohs are examined. We discover how the modern Masonic principles of liberty, equality and fraternity relate and reconcile with the symbology present in the lodges around the world. Together with Masonic texts, the author also spoke with Masons and conducted research into ancient civilizations. Thus, Mystic Masonry is an authoritative and fulfilling guide to the subject.

Book excerpt: The antiquity of Freemasonry is much debated. As a philosophical and ritualistic society, rather than a group of stonemasons, it certainly existed in the seventeenth century. But its beginnings are intertwined with the building of the great cathedrals of Europe, so Masons speak of speculative and operative Masonry to separate the symbolic activities from the bricks and mortar of construction. This curious volume is a contribution to the lore of speculative Masonry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of the various modes of communicating instruction to the uninformed, the masonic student is particularly interested in two; namely, the instruction by legends and that by symbols. It is to these two, almost exclusively, that he is indebted for all that he knows, and for all that he can know, of the philosophic system which is taught in the institution. All its mysteries and its dogmas, which constitute its philosophy, are intrusted for communication to the neophyte, sometimes to one, sometimes to the other of these two methods of instruction, and sometimes to both of them combined. The Freemason has no way of reaching any of the esoteric teachings of the Order except through the medium of a legend or a symbol. Contents: Preface. I. Preliminary. II. The Noachidæ. III. Book excerpt: A Review of their Origin and Antiquity ; with a General History of Freemasonry, and its Relation to the Theosophic, Scientific, and Philosophic Mysteries. The object of the work is to give a broad, but condensed view, of the various traces that are to be found amongst the ancients, in their religion, in their art, and in their buildings, civil, sacred and military, of a Speculative System such as is now embodied in Freemasonry. The work is necessarily a compilation of suitable information to be found in ancient and modern writers upon history, mystery, mysticism, and Freemasonry; but it also embraces the most recent views on these subjects which have been evolved by close and critical examination.

Book The Hidden Life in Freemasonry

Download or read book The Hidden Life in Freemasonry written by C. W. Leadbeater and published by . This book was released on 2015-11-26 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE origins of Freemasonry are lost in the mists of antiquity. Last century there were many who thought that it could be traced no further back than the mediaeval guilds of operative masons, though some regarded these in turn as relics of the Roman Collegia. There may still be some who know no better than that, but all students of the Ancient Mysteries who are also Freemasons are aware that it is along that line that we find our true philosophical ancestry; for there is much in our ceremonies and teachings which could have had no significance for the mere operative mason, though when examined by the light of the knowledge received in the Mysteries it is seen to be pregnant with meaning. Many Masonic writers claim various degrees of antiquity for the Craft, some assigning its foundation to King Solomon, and one at least boldly stating that its wisdom is all that now remains of the divine knowledge which Adam possessed before his fall. There is, however, plenty of evidence less mythical than that, and to that evidence I happen to be able to contribute a fragment of personal experience of a rather unusual kind.
