The study of inscriptions, therefore, becomes mandatory as far as knowing the history of Ancient India is concerned, as the genuine inscriptions form the most authentic source for almost correct reconstruction of the past events. This book reevaluates the pioneering and untiring efforts put in by the epigraphists, especially the European and Indian scholars, during the last couple of centuries to decipher the contents of the epigraphic records scattered all over the country and, thus, unveil the historical events that occurred during the first three centuries of the Common Era.
