Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Georgi Valentinovich Plekhanov (11 December [O. S. 29 November] 1856 - 30 May 1918) was a Russian revolutionary, philosopher and Marxist theoretician. He was a founder of the social-democratic movement in Russia and was one of the first Russians to identify himself as "Marxist". Facing political persecution, Plekhanov emigrated to Switzerland in 1880, where he continued in his political activity attempting to overthrow the Tsarist regime in Russia. Plekhanov is known as the "father of Russian Marxism". Although he supported the Bolshevik faction at the 2nd Congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1903, Plekhanov soon rejected the idea of democratic centralism, and became one of Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky's principal antagonists in the 1905 St. Petersburg Soviet.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Anarchism: A Criticism and History of the Anarchist Theory ON the day of the bomb outrage in the French Parlia ment I gave an impromptu discourse upon Anarchism to an intelligent audience, anxious to know more about it, touching upon its intellectual ancestry, its doctrines, propaganda, the lines of demarcation that separate it from Socialism and Radicalism, and so forth. The impression, which my explanations of it made upon my audience, was at the same time flattering and yet painful to me. I felt almost ashamed that I had told these men, who represented the pick of the middle class political electorate, something entirely new to them in speaking of matters which, considering their reality and the importance of the question, ought to be familiar to every citizen. Having thus had my attention drawn to this lacuna in the public mind, I was induced to make a. Survey of the most diverse circles of the political and social world, both of readers and writers, and the result was the resolve to extend my previous studies of Anarchism (which had not extended much beyond the earliest theorists), and to develop my lecture into a book. This book I now present to my readers. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Anarchist Socialism in Early Twentieth Century Spain

Download or read book Anarchist Socialism in Early Twentieth Century Spain written by Stephen Luis Vilaseca and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-28 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anarchist Socialism in Early 20th Century Spain is the first English translation of and critical introduction to Ideario, a collection of newspaper and journal articles written by Spanish anarchist Ricardo Mella. Given that Mella is virtually unknown to the English-speaking world, this book provides readers access to his extensive body of work about Spain, human nature, and a world increasingly dominated by capitalism. Suitable for both the general public interested in learning more about anarchist ideas and for scholars studying twentieth-century Spain, the three introductory essays help to introduce Mella, ground his work in the context of Spanish anarchism, and draw connections between Mella and the urban in late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Spain. Stephen Luis Vilaseca’s translation is accessible and engaging.
