Book Analytic Models for Multi stage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Analytic Models for Multi stage Interconnection Networks written by Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine (Great Britain). Dept. of Computing and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Central to all parallel architectures is a switching network which facilitates the communication between a machine's components necessary to support their cooperation. Multi-stage interconnection networks (MINs) are classified and analytic models are described for both packet-switched and circuit-switched MINs with asynchronous transmission mode. Under strong enough assumptions, packet-switching can be modelled by standard queueing methods, hence providing a standard against which to assess approximate models. We describe one such approximate model with much weaker assumptions which is more widely applicable and can be implemented more efficiently. To model circuit-switching requires a different approach because of the presence of passive resources, namely multiple links through the MIN which must be held before a message can be transmitted and throughout its transmission. An approximate analysis based upon the recursive structure of a particular MIN topology is described which yields accurate predictions when compared with simulation."

Book An analytical model of multistage interconnection networks

Download or read book An analytical model of multistage interconnection networks written by Darryl L. Willick and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Multiprocessors require an interconnection network to connect processors with memory modules. The performance of the interconnection network can have a large effect upon overall system performance, and, therefore, methods are needed to model and compare alternative network architectures. This paper is concerned with evaluating the performance of multistage interconnection networks consisting of k x s switching elements. Examples of such networks include omega, binary n-cube and baseline networks. We consider clocked, packet switched networks with buffers at switch output ports. An analytical model based on approximate Mean Value Analysis is developed, then validated through simulations."

Book Mean Value Analysis Models for Multistage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Mean Value Analysis Models for Multistage Interconnection Networks written by University of Saskatchewan. Dept. of Computational Science and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First, a model is derived under the assumption of unbounded buffers. This model is quite straightforward and gives extremely accurate performance predictions provided that buffers are reasonably large. Next, a model for the case where buffers are bounded in size is developed. This model is considerably more complex, but, in general, predicts the behaviour of networks with small buffers more accurately."

Book Analysis of Multicasting in Buffered Multistage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Analysis of Multicasting in Buffered Multistage Interconnection Networks written by Dietmar Tutsch and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Multistage interconnection networks (Banyan networks) are frequently proposed as connections in multiprocessor systems or in ATM switches. There exist several analytical models describing the performance of networks in which messages are unicasted. In this paper, an analytical model for the performance evaluation of buffered Banyan networks is presented in which messages may be multicasted. In our model, an arbitrary network size, arbitrary buffer lengths in each network stage, an arbitrary (but uniform) traffic pattern, and an arbitrary network input rate can be chosen."

Book Generating Systems of Equations for Performance Evaluation of Multistage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Generating Systems of Equations for Performance Evaluation of Multistage Interconnection Networks written by Dietmar Tutsch and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Multistage interconnection networks (Banyan networks) are frequently proposed as connections in multiprocessor systems, in ATM switches or in Gigabit Ethernet switches. There exist several analytical models describing the performance of such networks. Using analytical models the performance can be determined much faster than by simulation. On the other hand, the development of an analytical model is very time-consuming. In this paper, we present a method for an automatic and fast generation of an analytical network model. The generated analysis copes with networks of arbitrary size, arbitrary switching element sizes, arbitrary buffer lengths in each network stage, an arbitrary (but uniform) traffic pattern including multicast traffic, and an arbitrarily chosen network load."

Book Favorite Load Analysis of Multistage Interconnection Networks with Split Buffers

Download or read book Favorite Load Analysis of Multistage Interconnection Networks with Split Buffers written by Jianxun Ding and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "This paper concerns the analysis of the Split-buffered Multistage Interconnection Networks (SMINs) under the favorite input load. The favorite load is a typical nonuniform traffic pattern which includes the uniform load as its special case. A new analytical model of SMINs under the favorite load is developed. The analytical results are validated through simulations. It is shown that the SMINs generally perform better under the favorite load than the SMINs under the uniform load. The analytical model itself also shows potential for evaluating other high performance switch designs."
