Book Analysis of Wind tunnel Stability and Control Tests in Terms of Flying Qualities of Full scale Airplanes

Download or read book Analysis of Wind tunnel Stability and Control Tests in Terms of Flying Qualities of Full scale Airplanes written by Gerald G. Kayten and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of results of wind-tunnel stability and control tests of powered airplane models in terms of the flying qualities of full-scale airplanes is advocated. In order to indicated the topics upon which comments are considered desirable in the report of a wind-tunnel stability and control investigation and to demonstrate the nature of the suggested analysis, the present NACA flying-qualities requirements are discussed in relation to wind-tunnel tests. General procedures for the estimation of flying qualities from wind-tunnel tests are outlined.

Book A Wind tunnel Evaluation of Analytical Techniques for Predicting Static Stability and Control Characteristics of Flexible Aircraft

Download or read book A Wind tunnel Evaluation of Analytical Techniques for Predicting Static Stability and Control Characteristics of Flexible Aircraft written by Irving Abel and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental evaluation of analytical techniques for predicting certain stability and control characteristics of a large flexible aircraft is presented. Analytical methods based on both the model approach and flexibility influence coefficients are developed to predict the aerodynamic characteristics of a flexible airplane. These methods are then applied to a flexibly scaled model of a supersonic transport configuration. Comparisons of wind-tunnel data, calculations based on the model approach, and flexibility influence coefficients are presented over the Mach number range from 0.6 to 2.7. An examination of the results obtained from this study indicates that both analytical techniques predict reasonably well the effect of flexibility on the basic longitudinal characteristics and that both techniques give generally comparable results.

Book Stability and Control

Download or read book Stability and Control written by Courtland D. Perkins and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flight Testing, Volume II: Stability and Control focuses on the development of adequate flight test techniques for the appraisal of stability and control characteristics and flying qualities of airplanes. This book discusses the flying quality requirements, longitudinal motions, and flight determination of stick-fixed neutral points. The determination of aerodynamic parameters from steady maneuvering, desirable control characteristics in steady flight, and various forms of lateral control surfaces are also elaborated. This publication likewise covers the measurement of maximum lift coefficient, emergency anti-spin devices, and concept of the altitude-Mach number flight envelope. This volume is recommended for design, development or research engineers, test pilots, and instrumentation personnel interested in airplane stability and control.

Book Preliminary Stability and Control Tests in Th NACA Free flight Wind Tunnel and Correlation with Full scale Flight Tests

Download or read book Preliminary Stability and Control Tests in Th NACA Free flight Wind Tunnel and Correlation with Full scale Flight Tests written by Joseph A. Shortal and published by . This book was released on 1941 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of stability and control of airplanes by means of dynamic scale models in the NACA 12-foot free-flight wind tunnel is described. Preliminary tests of a 1/12-scale model of the P-36A airplane were used to develop the testing technique and to afford a comparison of tests of a model in the tunnel with flight tests of the corresponding airplane. Qualitatively, the general behavior of the model was in agreement with the behavior of the airplane, but quantitatively, the longitudinal stability of the model was greater than that of the airplane and the aileron control was somewhat weaker. This quantitative disagreement is probably a result of local separation due to the low Reynolds numbers the tests, which affects a direct comparison with full-scale tests but which should not vitiate comparisons of different models or modifications to a given model. it is believed that the free-flight tunnel affords a useful means of determining the relative stability and control characteristics of different models and that it will be particularly useful in the development of new airplane design.

Book Experimental Investigation of a 90 Degree Cascade Diffusing Bend with an Area Ratio of 1 45 1 and with Several Inlet Boundary Layers

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of a 90 Degree Cascade Diffusing Bend with an Area Ratio of 1 45 1 and with Several Inlet Boundary Layers written by Daniel Friedman and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation was conducted in order to determine the performance of a 90 degree cascade diffusing bend with an area ratio of 1.45:1 and a 19-inch square inlet with several inlet-boundary-layer shapes and thicknesses. The maximum mean inlet Mach number was 0.41 and the corresponding airfoil Reynolds number was 950,000. The experimental results seem to indicate that, when the duct configuration requires a bend, a certain amount of diffusion can be obtained without an appreciable rise in the total-pressure losses. If length is important, this configuration requires much less space than the usual diffuser-bend combination.

Download or read book Flight Dynamics written by Robert F. Stengel and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2022-11-01 with total page 914 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An updated and expanded new edition of an authoritative book on flight dynamics and control system design for all types of current and future fixed-wing aircraft Since it was first published, Flight Dynamics has offered a new approach to the science and mathematics of aircraft flight, unifying principles of aeronautics with contemporary systems analysis. Now updated and expanded, this authoritative book by award-winning aeronautics engineer Robert Stengel presents traditional material in the context of modern computational tools and multivariable methods. Special attention is devoted to models and techniques for analysis, simulation, evaluation of flying qualities, and robust control system design. Using common notation and not assuming a strong background in aeronautics, Flight Dynamics will engage a wide variety of readers, including aircraft designers, flight test engineers, researchers, instructors, and students. It introduces principles, derivations, and equations of flight dynamics as well as methods of flight control design with frequent reference to MATLAB functions and examples. Topics include aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, flying qualities, flight control, and the atmospheric and gravitational environment. The second edition of Flight Dynamics features up-to-date examples; a new chapter on control law design for digital fly-by-wire systems; new material on propulsion, aerodynamics of control surfaces, and aeroelastic control; many more illustrations; and text boxes that introduce general mathematical concepts. Features a fluid, progressive presentation that aids informal and self-directed study Provides a clear, consistent notation that supports understanding, from elementary to complicated concepts Offers a comprehensive blend of aerodynamics, dynamics, and control Presents a unified introduction of control system design, from basics to complex methods Includes links to online MATLAB software written by the author that supports the material covered in the book
