Book Analysis of Three dimensional Inviscid Supersonic Flow Between a Body and an Outer Wall

Download or read book Analysis of Three dimensional Inviscid Supersonic Flow Between a Body and an Outer Wall written by W. C. Armstrong and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three-dimensional inviscid supersonic flow equations are solved for the flow over a body located within a duct. Numerical solutions are obtained by use of the reference plane method of characteristics technique. Results of the analysis are compared with experimental test body pressure distributions obtained with an off-design jet stretcher system. The analysis is sufficiently general so that a variety of internal flows may be predicted. A computer program listing and an example problem are presented.

Book A Technique for Computing Three dimensional Steady Inviscid Supersonic Flows

Download or read book A Technique for Computing Three dimensional Steady Inviscid Supersonic Flows written by GINO. MORETTI and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thorough understanding of the supersonic flow past an arbitrarily shaped body can only be achieved by solving the three-dimensional aerodynamic problem. It is well known that only numerical techniques can be used, because of the nonlinearity of the equations. Nevertheless, in the field of engineering, a quick, panoramic survey of a problem is often much more interesting and useful than the exact solution on one particular case. With this in mind, we attempted the building up of a technique to be used on a small computing machine. Its advantages are: the simplicity of the program, which can be understood and eventually modified by engineers, not specially skilled in programming; a direct control of the results, as far as they are typed out; the choice of different degrees of approximation, including a very rough one, apt for getting a first insight on a given body under several conditions, and seeing how it works. In this report, the essential features of the problem are first examined to obtain suggestions for setting up a technique, and then the numerical procedure which has been set up and programmed is outlined.

Volume II is a user's manual for the computer programs and provides the detailed information needed to set up and use the programs. These programs can determine the supersonic flow past smooth blunted bodies for any angle of attack for which the initial value surface remains on the blunted nose. The lowest usable Mach number is on the order of 2.0, with lower values attainable by careful attention to the initial value surface solution. There is no computational upper limit on the Mach number. (Author).

Book A Method of Characteristics Computer Program for Three dimensional Supersonic Internal Flows

Download or read book A Method of Characteristics Computer Program for Three dimensional Supersonic Internal Flows written by W. C. Armstrong and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reference-plane method of characteristics is applied to the computation of the supersonic flow in a three-dimensional (3-D) channel such as a propulsion nozzle. The fluid is assumed to be an inviscid ideal gas and the flow is assumed to be shock-free, although it can be rotational. Both the basic equations and the numerical procedures are described, as is the computer program, which was written in FORTRAN IV language for the IBM 370/165 computer. The validity of the computer program was established by computing, in various ways, an axisymmetric nozzle flow as a three-dimensional flow; the numerical results are in good agreement with the results from a well-established computer program for axisymmetric flow. Book Quasi Three Dimensional Supersonic Viscid Inviscid Interactions Including Separation Effects

Download or read book Quasi Three Dimensional Supersonic Viscid Inviscid Interactions Including Separation Effects written by Veer N. Vatsa and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is concerned with viscous/inviscid interactions in two and quasi-three-dimensional supersonic flows with separation. Interaction effects are modeled through the so called 'displacement body concept', wherein it is assumed that the inviscid flow 'sees' an effective body obtained by adding the displacement thickness to the original surface. The governing equations in the viscous region are taken to be the interacting boundary-layer equations and an alternating-direction-implicit (ADI) finite difference scheme is employed to obtain their solution. This technique is applied to the quasi-three-dimensional problems resulting from flow past swept (yawed) and axisymmetric compression surfaces. Detailed distributions of surface pressure, skin friction and heat-transfer are presented for Mach numbers of 2 to 6. It is found that both cross flow and axisymmetric effects are easily accommodated in the solution technique and that the predicted results are in qualitative and quantitative agreement with available experimental data.

Book Research on Supersonic Flow Around Three Dimensional Pointed Bodies

Download or read book Research on Supersonic Flow Around Three Dimensional Pointed Bodies written by L. G. NAPOLITANO and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review of research on non-equilibrium flows is presented. The work is divided into two parts, containing published and unpublished research, respectively. Part I deals with the thermodynamics and dynamics of multireacting mixtures. By starting from basic postulates, a self-consistent and complete thermodynamic theory is formulated. The study of the dynamics is mostly limited to the linearized approximation and falls within two categories: (a) formulation of basic equations and analysis of their overall properties; and (b) the solutions of typically representative flow fields. Part II deals with the derivation and discussion of the potential equation for linearized steady motion of a multireacting mixture within the volume-viscosity analogy. Also, the notion of thermodynamic characteristic speeds introduced in Part I is generalized, and a more exhaustive study of its properties is made. (Author).
