Book Analysis of the Threat Oriented Marksmanship Training Capabilities of the Infantry Remoted Target System IRETS

This book was released on 1980 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At present in the U.S. Army, rifle marksmanship training is conducted on TRAINFIRE ranges which were developed and installed during the late 1950's at selected Army Training Centers and other major U.S. Army installations. These ranges are rapidly becoming obsolete. As a consequence, the U.S. Army is considering the procurement of a new, improved live fire training system, the Infantry Remoted Target System (IRETS). This system has been designed to provide for the conduct of rifle marksmanship training in a threat oriented context. Early in 1976 the U.S. Army Infantry Center (USAIC) published threat oriented rifle marksmanship scenarios for the defense, the attack, and the counterattack. The USAIC defense scenario was subsequently incorporated into the IRETS specifications. In this regard, the defense scenario and its target presentation requirements served as the basis for the target conditions to be portrayed by and the live fire range requirements for the IRETS. Because it is planned to replace selected rifle marksmanship live fire ranges with the IRETS, it is important to know to what extent the planned capabilities of the IRETS are consistent with current concepts of threat oriented rifle marksmanship training. This report presents the findings of a comparative analysis of the specifications for the IRETS and the target presentation and training requirements for threat oriented rifle marksmanship training. The purpose of the analysis was to identify potential shortcomings in the threat oriented training capabilities of the IRETS.

Book Comparison of Rifle Defeatable Threat Criteria and the Infantry Remoted Target System IRETS

Download or read book Comparison of Rifle Defeatable Threat Criteria and the Infantry Remoted Target System IRETS written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Army is considering the procurement of the Infantry Remoted Target System (IRETS) as a replacement for current Record Fire ranges. It is important to know the capabilities and limitations of the IRETS. This report presents the findings of comparisons of the IRETS specifications and descriptive threat oriented criteria. It concludes that the IRETS is an upgrading of older marksmanship evaluation concepts. Further, unless corrections of problems and limitations are made, the system should not be viewed as representing a quantum leap from current Record Fire ranges to a threat oriented Record Fire facility.

Book Basic Rifle Marksmanship Training with the Laser Marksmanship Training System

Download or read book Basic Rifle Marksmanship Training with the Laser Marksmanship Training System written by Joseph D. Hagman and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This research compared the relative impact of two approaches for training Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM). One hundred and eighty four One-Station Unit Training (OSUT) infantry trainees (i.e., the experimental group) trained under a U.S. Army Reserve (USAR)-developed, device-based (i.e., the Beamhit Laser Marksmanship Training System LMTS) approach, and 202 infantry trainees (i.e., the control group) trained under the standard U.S. Army Infantry School BRM program of instruction. Results revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group on shot grouping, weapon zeroing, and known-distance firing. No between-group differences were found, however, for record fire qualification scores or for performance during pop-up target engagement practice periods leading up to qualification. The implications of these findings for initial marksmanship training are discussed along with plans for follow-up USAR-sponsored research to assess (a) the impact of LMTS-based training on sustainment performance, and (b) the feasibility of using LMTS-based performance to predict live-fire qualification scores."--Stinet.

Book Training Support Package for Moving Target Engagement with Existing Ranges and Special Devices

Download or read book Training Support Package for Moving Target Engagement with Existing Ranges and Special Devices written by Ronald F. Martere and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a program of instruction for the engagement of moving personnel targets with the service rifle. It was designed for use by the Army Training Center to teach Infantry One Station Unit Training (OSUT) soldiers. Instruction is situationally focused. It is oriented for application on existing ranges and facilities at Fort Benning, Georgia, in conjunction with available special training devices. Utilization of the devices described and discussed within the recommended training program will cost effectively increase targets hit on the Defense Test Range (DTR). Instructor requirements remain unchanged, but nominal increases in training time and ammunition requirements are necessary. Detailed lesson outlines and hard copy vu-graphs are included. Keywords: Advanced rifle marksmanship (ARM); Multipurpose arcade combat simulator; M16A1 rifle training; Remoted target system(RETS); Weaponeer II.

Book excerpt: In June 1985 a research effort was initiated to examine current Advanced Rifle Marksmanship (ARM) Training at the Fort Benning Defense Test Range (DTR). This research effort examined alternate methods of training moving target engagement. Several variations of training devices and procedures were developed and evaluated. This note provides a cost and training effectiveness analysis (CTEA) of each alternative developed for training moving target engagements.
