Book Analysis of the Supersonic Flow Field about a Forebody Decelerator Combination Volume 1 Theoretical Methods and Result Comparisons

Download or read book Analysis of the Supersonic Flow Field about a Forebody Decelerator Combination Volume 1 Theoretical Methods and Result Comparisons written by and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The supersonic flow field about a forebody-decelerator combination is analyzed. Tangent-cone and Newtonian methods are used to predict forebody surface pressures. Empirical correlations based on local similarity solutions predict the boundary layer characteristics, and boundary layer similarity techniques are used to predict the forebody wake parameters. The flow about a conical secondary body in the forebody wake is calculated using the method of characteristics. In Volume I the methods are presented and explained, and the results of the calculations are compared with experimental measurements; in Volume II the details of the calculation procedure and computer program are presented.

Book Recovery System Design Guide

Download or read book Recovery System Design Guide written by E. G. Ewing and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document serves as the third revision of the USAF Parachute Handbook which was first published in 1951. The data and information represent the current state of the art relative to recovery system design and development. The initial chapters describe representative recovery applications, components, subsystems, material, manufacture and testing. The final chapters provide empirical data and analytical methods useful for predicting performance and presenting a definitive design of selected components into a reliable recovery system.

Book Wake Analysis for Supersonic Decelerator Applications

Download or read book Wake Analysis for Supersonic Decelerator Applications written by Richard A. Lau and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This investigation uses two methods for predicting the compressible wake characteristics behind two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies in a supersonic free stream, the first involving use of shallow-water tow-channel data and mathematic relationships existing between water with a free surface and a two-dimensional, compressible gas, and the second which uses a momentum integral solution for the viscous wake and a mass flow balance across the bow shock for the inviscid wake. As part of this investigation, the theoretical solution for the two-dimensional wake was developed and the results were combined with available axisymmetric wake results into a general set of unified equations.

Book A Second Order Numerical Method of Characteristics for Three Dimensional Supersonic Flow Volume 1 Theoretical Development and Results

Download or read book A Second Order Numerical Method of Characteristics for Three Dimensional Supersonic Flow Volume 1 Theoretical Development and Results written by and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new method of characteristics numerical scheme for three-dimensional steady flow has been developed which has second-order accuracy. A complete numerical algorithm for computing internal supersonic flows of the type encountered in ramjet, scramjet or rocket propulsion systems has been developed and programmed for both the IBM 7094 and CDC 6500 computers. The method has been tested for order of accuracy using the exact solution for source flow and Prandtl-Meyer flow. The results of these tests have verified the second-order accuracy of the scheme. Additional accuracy tests using existing methods for solution of two-dimensional axisymmetric flows have shown that the scheme produces accuracies comparable to that of the two-dimensional method of characteristics. The computer program has been used to generate the flow field for several three-dimensional nozzle contours and for nonsymmetric flow into an axisymmetric nozzle. These results reveal the complex natureof three-dimensional flows and the general inadequacy of quasi-three-dimensional analyses which neglect crossflow. An operationally convenient computer program was produced. The program has the capability to analyze nonisoenergetic and nonhomentropic flows of a calorically perfect gas or homentropic flows of a real gas in chemical equilibrium. The initial-value surface options include uniform flow, source flow or axisymmetric tabular data. The nozzle boundary options include conical nozzles, axisymmetric contoured nozzles and super-elliptical nozzles.

Book On the Determination of Certain Basic Types of Supersonic Flow Fields

Download or read book On the Determination of Certain Basic Types of Supersonic Flow Fields written by Carlo Ferrari and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: A discussion is given of the application of Fourier series techniques to the problems of linearized supersonic flow. The formulation presented is an extension of the doublet type of "fundamental solution" to higher order types of singularity. The equations developed have application to wing theory but are primarily of importance in wing-body interaction problems. A specific example of a wing-body interference problem is discussed in light of the presented methods.

Book Three Dimensional Supersonic Flow Over a Smooth Body with Shock Producing Protuberance

Download or read book Three Dimensional Supersonic Flow Over a Smooth Body with Shock Producing Protuberance written by Richard A. Scheuing and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation is directed primarily at the second order solution of the three dimensional, supersonic flow field around an arbitrarily-shaped body which, although otherwise of smooth contour, has a protuberance that generates a shock wave and substantially disturbs the flow downstream. Such configurations occur for example, in fuselage-canopy combinations. The calculation of the flow field about a body with no local protuberance is considered first, the solution being based on the so-called method of near-characteristics. Typical numerical results are presented for circular and elliptic cones, tangent ogives of circular and elliptic cross section, and a representative non-axisymmetric compression surface. Comparisons with results from conical flow theories and with experimental data are made wherever possible. The theoretical analysis and computational procedure evolved for the primary body is then extended to permit the addition of the shock-producing protuberance. This approach enable the flow upstream of the secondary shock to be considered uniform.
