Book excerpt: Abstract: Food stamp redemption data (fiscal year 1978) are presented in an update of an earlier report; the importance of the socioeconomic characteristics of households in the redemption stores' immediate areas is explored. Sources of data and methods of comparison are described. Socioeconomic characteristics of the households in the trading areas include: proportion of white collar to blue collar workers, proportion of households without a car, consecutive years ofresidence, median household income, and ethnic composition. Relation of socioeconomic factors and ratios of food stamp redemptions to food sales are analyzed statistically. A comparison of food stamp redemptions and cash/check receiptsby kind and size of store is made. Finally, variations in regions (1978) and changes among and within regions (1976-1978) are described. Book Valuing Food Store Access

Download or read book Valuing Food Store Access written by Peter Feather and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food stamp recipients may lack access to larger stores, reducing the availability of nutritious food. Reliance on smaller stores may have undesirable impacts. Policy alternatives include limiting food stamp redemption to larger stores and subsidizing store development. I estimate that limiting redemption to supermarkets and grocery stores, or supermarkets alone, results in losses ranging from $499.2 million to $1.05 billion, or $1.17 billion to $2.44 billion (respectively) annual loss in food stamp recipient welfare nationwide. The impact of improving access is also significant, ranging from $333.6 million to $931.2 million.

This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Analysis of Food Stamp Redemptions The administrative task is complicated because there likely are lags in coupon use by participants and the eventual request for redemption by agents of the Federal Reserve. Management of the redemption account, therefore, implies the ability to fore cast both coupon loss (or nonuse) and the appropriate lag structure involved in the redemption process. Providing answers to four questions served as the research objectives of this investigation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Does SNAP Decrease Food Insecurity

Download or read book Does SNAP Decrease Food Insecurity written by Mark Nord and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-selection by more food-needy households into the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly called the Food Stamp Program) makes it difficult to observe positive effects of the program in survey data. This study investigates self-selection and ameliorative program effects by examining households¿ food security month by month for several months prior to initial receipt of SNAP benefits and for several months after joining the program. Food security is observed to deteriorate in the 6 months prior to beginning to receive SNAP benefits and to improve shortly after. The results clearly demonstrate the self-selection by households into SNAP at a time when they are more severely food insecure. Charts and tables.
