Book The Analysis of Laminar Wakes in Supersonic Flow by the Method of Integral Relations

Download or read book The Analysis of Laminar Wakes in Supersonic Flow by the Method of Integral Relations written by James Cheng-Sun Meng and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The singular points in the recompression region of the wake behind a hypersonic re-entry body (with a flat base) are analyzed using the method of integral relations. It is shown that the critical point just downstream of the wake reattachment point is a saddle point. Integral curves are generated connecting this point with the base flow region. All viscous effects are neglected upstream of the base shoulder; downstream of it a Chapman type solution is used to connect the integrals issuing from the saddle points. A suitable matching of flow parameters yields a unique near wake solution. Two sample cases are carried through in detail. Good agreement with experimental results is found. (Author).

Book Theoretical Studies of Supersonic Two dimensional and Axisymmetric Nonequilibrium Flow Including Calculations of Flow Through a Nozzle

Download or read book Theoretical Studies of Supersonic Two dimensional and Axisymmetric Nonequilibrium Flow Including Calculations of Flow Through a Nozzle written by James Joe Der and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical and vibrational nonequilibrium phenomena in steady inviscid flow fields are studied by the analysis of flow past curved boundaries. Possible alternative choices of the state variables to be used are considered. General features of the nonequilibrium flow are studied by examination of the mathematical properties of the nonlinear flow equations. An axisymmetric nonequilibrium flow of air through a supersonic nozzle is analyzed by means of numerical computations. The coupling effects between nonuniformity (across a nozzle section) and nonequilibrium, not taken into account in the quasi-one-dimensional flow approximation, are revealed by the present analysis.

Book Analysis of the Near Wake Pressure in Supersonic Flow Using the Momentum Integral Method

Download or read book Analysis of the Near Wake Pressure in Supersonic Flow Using the Momentum Integral Method written by Josef Rom and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pressure of two-dimensional base type separated regions is evaluated by use of semi-empirical analysis. The analysis is based on the momentum integral method. Empirical parameters required in the analysis are evaluated from various available experimental data. Good correlation over a large range of variation of the physical parameters is obtained in the cases of two-dimensional supersonic flows for both laminar and turbulent separation over backward facing steps and blunt bases. The axially symmetric base type flows seem to be affected by the inviscid axially symmetric external flow in a different manner than found in the two dimensional case. It seems that the parameters applicable for the two-dimensional base type flows are not sufficient for the correlation of the axially symmetric separated flows. (Author).

Book Numerical Determination of the Flow Field about Axisymmetric and Two Dimensional Bodies in Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Numerical Determination of the Flow Field about Axisymmetric and Two Dimensional Bodies in Supersonic Flow written by Robert H. Thompson and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer program for calculating the aerodynamic characteristics and local flow properties for an arbitrary axisymmetric or two-dimensional body in supersonic flow is developed. The supersonic portion of the flow field is calculated by the method of characteristics. A conical flow solution provides the starting conditions for a sharp body with an attached shock; for a blunt body detached shock case, a method of integral relations solution provides the starting conditions. The flow field is treated as inviscid with the boundary layer effects being determined by the reference temperature method and a modified Reynolds analogy in the laminar case and the method of Spalding and Chi in the turbulent case. Mangler's transformation accounts for transverse curvature in the laminar flow case. Details of the entire flow field are provided including any secondary shocks which may arise as a result of overexpansion or flared surfaces. Base flow properties are provided by the semiempirical method of Love. The calculated surface properties include pressure, equilibrium temperature, skin friction and heat transfer coefficients, and Mach number. Drag coefficients are determined with the components being broken down into pressure, friction and base contributions. (Author).

Book On Two dimensional Supersonic Flows

Download or read book On Two dimensional Supersonic Flows written by Stefan Bergman and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In previous reports by the author, the method of operators has been applied to investigation of two-dimensional flow patterns of an ideal compressible fluid, mostly in the subsonic case. Using a similar approach in the present paper, the author defines two different operators which generate supersonic two-dimensional flow patterns from differentiable functions of one real variable. (An operator is any rul by means of which one function is converted into another.) Since operators of the type considered preserve many properties of the functions to which they are applied and since the theory of functions of one real variable is more extensively developed than that of solutions of the compressibility equations, the results can be used as a basis for investigation of supersonic flow patterns.

Book Second order Slender body Theory

Download or read book Second order Slender body Theory written by Milton Van Dyke and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slender-body theory for subsonic and supersonic flow past bodies of revolution is extended to a second approximation. Methods are developed for handling the difficulties that arise at round ends. Comparison is made with experiment and with other theories for several simple shapes.

Book Near Wake Flow Studies in Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Near Wake Flow Studies in Supersonic Flow written by Josef Rom and published by . This book was released on with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theoretical and experimental investigations carried out on supersonic flow over two-dimensional and axially symmetric base type separated flows are summarized in this report. Correlating equations for base pressure and backward facing step pressure with laminar and turbulent separation are presented. These relations are obtained from considerations of the analysis based on the integral method and experimental data. Measurements of total pressure and temperature profiles in the near wake of a two-dimensional wedge- flat plate model at M=3.5 indicate high recovery temperatures at the outer regions of the wake beyond the neck position. The development of the shock tunnel and its associated equipment is reported, including an improved method for thin film resistance thermometers calibration.
