Book excerpt: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a block transmission technique. In the baseband, complex-valued data symbols modulate a large number of tightly grouped carrier waveforms. The transmitted OFDM signal multiplexes several low-rate data streams and each data stream is associated with a given subcarrier. OFDM is implemented in broadband wireless access systems as a way to overcome wireless channel impairments and to improve bandwidth efficiency. OFDM is used today in wireless local area networks (LANs) as specified by the IEEE 802.11a and the ETSI HiperLAN/2 standards. It is also used for wireless digital radio and television transmissions, particularly in Europe. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication refers to wireless communication systems using an array of antennas (i.e. multiple antennas) at either the transmitter or the receiver. Multiplexing would cause interference, but MIMO systems use smart selection and/or combining techniques at the receiving end to transmit more information and to improve signal quality. MIMO systems provide a significant capacity gain over conventional single antenna systems, along with more reliable communication. In this project, we will investigate MIMO techniques for OFDM systems in the context of WiFi and WiMax. We will conduct an extensive simulation-based study of MIMO-OFDM systems. We will analyze the performance of various MIMO techniques under different fading channel conditions. It is known that the complexity of OFDM with MIMO is overwhelming due to the necessity for multiple Fast Fourier Transforms (FFTs) at the receiver. In order to reduce system complexity, we also propose a novel combining technique that will exploit MIMO gains with only a single FFT at the receiver.

Book Performance Analysis of MIMO OFDM Systems with Focus on WiMAX

Download or read book Performance Analysis of MIMO OFDM Systems with Focus on WiMAX written by Muhammad Hassan and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-16 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demand of different multimedia services and different internet supported applications on mobile devices requires a high speed data rate and good service of quality. This can be obtained by implementing multiple Antenna technology on both stations i.e. User terminal and base station with an appropriate coding technique, and on the other hand MIMO can fulfill 3G & 4G demand and standard with a combination of other techniques. The system's error performance is analyzed through simulation which showed the simulated results of Multi-Rate Resource Control (MRRC) scheme and Alamouti scheme are identical. And also the Bit Error Rate (BER) were checked for different MIMO systems. By improving the BER, we will get the better QoS.

Book Performance Analysis of Adaptive Interleaving for MIMO OFDM Systems

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Adaptive Interleaving for MIMO OFDM Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, an adaptive interleaving scheme for multiple-input and multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems is proposed. The scheme could better exploit the instantaneous channel variation by rearranging the transmitted symbols according to the quasi-instantaneous channel SNR of the OFDM frame. The purpose is to break up a long burst channel error so that overall bit error probability is reduced. The upper bound of pairwise error probability (PEB) of the MIMO-OFDM systems is investigated. The code gain and diversity gain of the proposed scheme are given. The result shows that the major factor affecting performance of the proposed scheme is SNR, channel order and the number of receive antenna. Extensive simulations show that significant SNR can be obtained with the proposed scheme and the MIMO-OFDM case has a performance improvement over the single antenna case. Compared with block interleaving, for 2Tx- 2Rx case at a BER of 10 (exp -2), adaptive interleaving offers a 5dB improvement.

Book Performance Analysis of Space time Trellis Coded MIMO OFDM Systems

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Space time Trellis Coded MIMO OFDM Systems written by Samet Yildiz and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Space-time codes are a standout amongst the most prominent procedure utilized as a part of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems in the advanced communication systems. While ordinary transmission between one transmit and one receive antenna is utilized, one can see neither diversity gain nor coding gain, which eventually implies that a critical change in the transmission cannot be observed. Space-time codes can be effectively connected through multiple transmit antennas and optional number of receive antennas. There are several approaches to provide diversity gain. The researches which are developed to achieve diversity gain by late 1990's are called as space-time block codes (STBC). Despite the fact that the STBC is anything but easy to execute, they do not provide any coding gain. Subsequently, so as to accomplish the coding gain other than the diversity gain, the space-time trellis codes (STTC) are connected all through this theory. STTC, which gives coding gain in regards to the number of the states, is then joined with the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, which is a prominent transmission method to send orthogonal signals with no interference between the subcarriers. It is ultimately called as STTC-OFDM systems.

Book Analysis and Performance Evaluation of SISO and MIMO OFDM Channel Estimation Techniques Using Pilot Symbols

Download or read book Analysis and Performance Evaluation of SISO and MIMO OFDM Channel Estimation Techniques Using Pilot Symbols written by Imtiyaz Ahmed Mohammed and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple Input Multiple Output Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO- OFDM) provides a significant performance gain compared to the single antenna systems by using diversity and multiplexing techniques. The availability of channel state information at the receiver determines the multiplexing and diversity gain of the MIMO OFDM systems. In this thesis work, analysis and comparison of different pilot aided channel estimation algorithms have been performed. The Alamouti Space Frequency Block coding (SFBC) is used to achieve diversity, whereas Maximum Likelihood (ML) detector is used to decode the spatially coded symbols.
