Book Turbocharging Normally Aspirated Engines on a Budget

Download or read book Turbocharging Normally Aspirated Engines on a Budget written by Robert Wagoner and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-09-04 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbocharging Normally Aspirated Engines on a Budget is a clear and detailed book that explains a method to turbocharge any engine - so the average gearhead can design a system that will be both reliable and low cost at the same time. This explains how to make custom turbocharger installations for any car, not bolt-on kits. Includes Toyota, GM, Dodge, and Mazda examples, tested and proven by Autocross racing experience, which can be copied directly or used as a roadmap to turbocharge other engines. Topics include eliminating spark knock, calculating horsepower, selecting turbocharger, CE (Compressor Efficiency), MAP, MAF, fuel injectors, upgrading the fuel system, intercoolers, and more. Written by an engineer. Includes detailed wiring diagrams, graphs, tables, formulas, and plenty of photographs. An Excel spreadsheet (for calculating turbocharger performance) described in the book can be downloaded from the author at LS6Fiero at Yahoo dot com.

Book Temperature Fatigue Interaction

Download or read book Temperature Fatigue Interaction written by L. Remy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-03-11 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a selection of peer-reviewed papers presented at the International Conference on Temperature-Fatigue Interaction, held in Paris, May 29-31, 2001, organised by the Fatigue Committee of the Societé Française de Métallurgie et de Matériaux (SF2M), under the auspices of the European Structural Integrity Society. The conference disseminated recent research results and promoting the interaction and collaboration amongst materials scientists, mechanical engineers and design engineers. Many engineering components and structures used in the automotive, aerospace, power generation and many other industries experience cyclic mechanical loads at high temperature or temperature transients causing thermally induced stresses. The increase of operating temperature and thermal mechanical loading trigger the interaction with time-dependent phenomena such as creep and environmental effects (oxidation, corrosion). A large number of metallic materials were investigated including aluminium alloys for the automotive industry, steels and cast iron for the automotive industry and materials forming, stainless steels for power plants, titanium, composites, intermetallic alloys and nickel base superalloys for aircraft industry, polymers. Important progress was observed in testing practice for high temperature behaviour, including environment and thermo-mechanical loading as well as in observation techniques. A large problem which was emphasized is to know precisely service loading cycles under non-isothermal conditions. This was considered critical for numerous thermal fatigue problems discussed in this conference.

Book Diesel Engine Transient Operation

Download or read book Diesel Engine Transient Operation written by Constantine D. Rakopoulos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-10 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, the study of internal combustion engines operation has focused on the steady-state performance. However, the daily driving schedule of automotive and truck engines is inherently related to unsteady conditions. In fact, only a very small portion of a vehicle’s operating pattern is true steady-state, e. g. , when cruising on a motorway. Moreover, the most critical conditions encountered by industrial or marine engines are met during transients too. Unfortunately, the transient operation of turbocharged diesel engines has been associated with slow acceleration rate, hence poor driveability, and overshoot in particulate, gaseous and noise emissions. Despite the relatively large number of published papers, this very important subject has been treated in the past scarcely and only segmentally as regards reference books. Merely two chapters, one in the book Turbocharging the Internal Combustion Engine by N. Watson and M. S. Janota (McMillan Press, 1982) and another one written by D. E. Winterbone in the book The Thermodynamics and Gas Dynamics of Internal Combustion Engines, Vol. II edited by J. H. Horlock and D. E. Winterbone (Clarendon Press, 1986) are dedicated to transient operation. Both books, now out of print, were published a long time ago. Then, it seems reasonable to try to expand on these pioneering works, taking into account the recent technological advances and particularly the global concern about environmental pollution, which has intensified the research on transient (diesel) engine operation, typically through the Transient Cycles certification of new vehicles.
