Book Analysis and Design of Numerical Schemes for Gas Dynamics 2

Download or read book Analysis and Design of Numerical Schemes for Gas Dynamics 2 written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-06-30 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of artificial diffusion on discrete shock structures is examined for a family of schemes which includes scalar diffusion, convective upwind and split pressure (CUSP) schemes, and upwind schemes with characteristics splitting. The analysis leads to conditions on the diffusive flux such that stationary discrete shocks can contain a single interior point. The simplest formulation which meets these conditions is a CUSP scheme in which the coefficients of the pressure differences is fully determined by the coefficient of convective diffusion. It is also shown how both the characteristic and CUSP schemes can be modified to preserve constant stagnation enthalpy in steady flow, leading to four variants, the E and H-characteristic schemes, and the E and H-CUSP schemes. Numerical results are presented which confirm the properties of these schemes. Jameson, Antony Unspecified Center NAS2-13721; N00014-92-J-1796; AF-AFOSR-0391-91...

Book Analysis and Design of Numerical Schemes for Gas Dynamics 1 Artificial Diffusion Upwind Biasing Limiters and Their Effect on Accuracy and Multigrid Convergence

Download or read book Analysis and Design of Numerical Schemes for Gas Dynamics 1 Artificial Diffusion Upwind Biasing Limiters and Their Effect on Accuracy and Multigrid Convergence written by Antony Jameson and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "The theory of non-oscillatory scalar schemes is developed in this paper in terms of the local extremum diminishing (LED) principle that maxima should not increase and minima should not decrease. This principle can be used for multi-dimensional problems on both structured and unstructured meshes, while it is equivalent to the total variation diminishing (TVD) principle for one-dimensional problems. A new formulation of symmetric limited positive (SLIP) schemes is presented, which can be generalized to produce schemes with arbitrary high order of accuracy in regions where the solution contains no extrema, and which can also be implemented on multi-dimensional unstructured meshes. Systems of equations lead to waves traveling with distinct speeds and possibly in opposite directions. Alternative treatments using characteristic splitting and scalar diffusive fluxes are examined, together with a modification of the scalar diffusion through the addition of pressure differences to the momentum equations to produce full upwinding in supersonic flow. This convective upwind and split pressure (CUSP) scheme exhibits very rapid convergence in multigrid calculations of transonic flow, and provides excellent shock resolution at very high Mach numbers."

Book Quasi Gas Dynamic Equations

Download or read book Quasi Gas Dynamic Equations written by Tatiana G. Elizarova and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-12 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph is devoted to modern mathematical models and numerical methods for solving gas- and ?uid-dynamic problems based on them. Two interconnected mathematical models generalizing the Navier–Stokes system are presented; they differ from the Navier–Stokes system by additional dissipative terms with a small parameter as a coef?cient. The new models are called the quasi-gas-dynamic and quasi-hydrodynamic equations. Based on these equations, effective ?nite-difference algorithms for calculating viscous nonstationary ?ows are constructed and examples of numerical computations are presented. The universality, the ef?ciency, and the exactness of the algorithms constructed are ensured by the ful?llment of integral conservation laws and the theorem on entropy balance for them. The book is a course of lectures and is intended for scientists and engineers who deal with constructing numerical algorithms and performing practical calculations of gas and ?uid ?ows and also for students and postgraduate students who specialize in numerical gas and ?uid dynamics.

Book IUTAM Symposium Transsonicum IV

Download or read book IUTAM Symposium Transsonicum IV written by H. Sobieczky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Symposium Transsonicum" was founded by Klaus Oswatitsch four decades ago when there was clearly a need for a systematic treatment of flow problems in the higher speed regime in aeronautics. The first conference in 1962 brought together scientists concerned with fundamental problems involving the sonic flow speed regime. Results of the conference provided an understanding of some basic tran sonic phenomena by proposing mathematical methods that allowed for the de velopment of practical calculations. The "Transonic Controversy" (about shock free flows) was still an open issue after this meeting. In 1975 the second symposium was held, by then there was much understanding in how to avoid shocks in a steady plane flow to be designed, but still very little was known in unsteady phenomena due to a lack of elucidating experiments. A third meeting in 1988 reflected the availability oflarger computers which allowed the numerical analysis of flows with shocks to a reasonable accuracy. Because we are trying to keep Oswatitsch's heritage in science alive especially in Gottingen, we were asked by the aerospace research community to organize another symposium. Much had been achieved already in the knowledge, techno logy and applications in transonics, so IUT AM had to be convinced that a fourth meeting would not just be a reunion of old friends reminiscing some scientific past. The scientific committee greatly supported my efforts to invite scientists ac tively working in transonic problems which still pose substantial difficulties to ae rospace and turbomachinery industry.

Download or read book Flux Corrected Transport written by Dmitri Kuzmin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-27 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing students and researchers as well as CFD practitioners, this book describes the state of the art in the development of high-resolution schemes based on the Flux-Corrected Transport (FCT) paradigm. Intended for readers who have a solid background in computational fluid dynamics, the book begins with historical notes by J.P. Boris and D.L. Book. Review articles that follow describe recent advances in the design of FCT algorithms as well as various algorithmic aspects. The topics addressed in the book and its main highlights include: the derivation and analysis of classical FCT schemes, with special emphasis on the underlying physical and mathematical constraints; flux limiting for hyperbolic systems; generalization of FCT to implicit time-stepping and finite element discretizations on unstructured meshes and its role as a subgrid scale model for Monotonically Integrated Large Eddy Simulation (MILES) of turbulent flows. The proposed enhancements of the FCT methodology also comprise the prelimiting and 'failsafe' adjustment of antidiffusive fluxes, the use of characteristic variables, and iterative flux correction. The cause and cure of detrimental clipping/terracing effects are discussed. Many numerical examples are presented for academic test problems and large-scale applications alike.
