Book Analyse num rique et quations diff rentielles

Download or read book Analyse num rique et quations diff rentielles written by Jean-Pierre Demailly and published by L'Editeur : EDP Sciences. This book was released on 2006 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Numerical Analysis for Engineers and Scientists

Download or read book Numerical Analysis for Engineers and Scientists written by G. Miller and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-05-29 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Striking a balance between theory and practice, this graduate-level text is perfect for students in the applied sciences. The author provides a clear introduction to the classical methods, how they work and why they sometimes fail. Crucially, he also demonstrates how these simple and classical techniques can be combined to address difficult problems. Many worked examples and sample programs are provided to help the reader make practical use of the subject material. Further mathematical background, if required, is summarized in an appendix. Topics covered include classical methods for linear systems, eigenvalues, interpolation and integration, ODEs and data fitting, and also more modern ideas like adaptivity and stochastic differential equations.

Book Numerical Mathematics

Download or read book Numerical Mathematics written by Alfio Quarteroni and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-26 with total page 669 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to provide the mathematical foundations of numerical methods, to analyze their basic theoretical properties and to demonstrate their performances on examples and counterexamples. Within any specific class of problems, the most appropriate scientific computing algorithms are reviewed, their theoretical analyses are carried out and the expected results are verified using the MATLAB software environment. Each chapter contains examples, exercises and applications of the theory discussed to the solution of real-life problems. While addressed to senior undergraduates and graduates in engineering, mathematics, physics and computer sciences, this text is also valuable for researchers and users of scientific computing in a large variety of professional fields.

Book Lectures on Numerical Mathematics

Download or read book Lectures on Numerical Mathematics written by H. Rutishauser and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book is an edition of the manuscripts to the courses "Numerical Methods I" and "Numerical Mathematics I and II" which Professor H. Rutishauser held at the E.T.H. in Zurich. The first-named course was newly conceived in the spring semester of 1970, and intended for beginners, while the two others were given repeatedly as elective courses in the sixties. For an understanding of most chapters the funda mentals of linear algebra and calculus suffice. In some places a little complex variable theory is used in addition. However, the reader can get by without any knowledge of functional analysis. The first seven chapters discuss the direct solution of systems of linear equations, the solution of nonlinear systems, least squares prob lems, interpolation by polynomials, numerical quadrature, and approxima tion by Chebyshev series and by Remez' algorithm. The remaining chapters include the treatment of ordinary and partial differential equa tions, the iterative solution of linear equations, and a discussion of eigen value problems. In addition, there is an appendix dealing with the qd algorithm and with an axiomatic treatment of computer arithmetic.

Book An Introduction to Differential Geometry with Applications to Elasticity

Download or read book An Introduction to Differential Geometry with Applications to Elasticity written by Philippe G. Ciarlet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-28 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: curvilinear coordinates. This treatment includes in particular a direct proof of the three-dimensional Korn inequality in curvilinear coordinates. The fourth and last chapter, which heavily relies on Chapter 2, begins by a detailed description of the nonlinear and linear equations proposed by W.T. Koiter for modeling thin elastic shells. These equations are “two-dimensional”, in the sense that they are expressed in terms of two curvilinear coordinates used for de?ning the middle surface of the shell. The existence, uniqueness, and regularity of solutions to the linear Koiter equations is then established, thanks this time to a fundamental “Korn inequality on a surface” and to an “in?nit- imal rigid displacement lemma on a surface”. This chapter also includes a brief introduction to other two-dimensional shell equations. Interestingly, notions that pertain to di?erential geometry per se,suchas covariant derivatives of tensor ?elds, are also introduced in Chapters 3 and 4, where they appear most naturally in the derivation of the basic boundary value problems of three-dimensional elasticity and shell theory. Occasionally, portions of the material covered here are adapted from - cerpts from my book “Mathematical Elasticity, Volume III: Theory of Shells”, published in 2000by North-Holland, Amsterdam; in this respect, I am indebted to Arjen Sevenster for his kind permission to rely on such excerpts. Oth- wise, the bulk of this work was substantially supported by two grants from the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China [Project No. 9040869, CityU 100803 and Project No. 9040966, CityU 100604].

Book General Problem of the Stability Of Motion

Download or read book General Problem of the Stability Of Motion written by A M Lyapunov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-08-28 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book makes more widely accessible the text of Lyapunov's major memoir of the general problem of the stability of motion. Translated by A. T. Fuller (University of Cambridge), the work is now available for the first time in the English language, and marked the centenary of the Russian publication in the late 1800s. Including a biography of Lyapunov and a comprehensive bibliography of his work, this excellent volume will prove to be of fundamental interest to all those concerned with the concept of the stability of motion, boundaries of stability, and with nonlinear dynamics.
