Download or read book Evaluation of Ozone and Ultraviolet Light written by R. Hulsey and published by International Water Assn. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this project were to: *evaluate the benefits of ultraviolet light (UV) and ozone and determine how to integrate the two disinfection systems efficiently; *compare medium pressure UV light (MP-UV) with the combination of ozone and MP-UV to determine their effectiveness in meeting CT requirements for inactivation of Giardia, Cryptosporidium, and viruses, especially in cold water; and *compare the effects of MP-UV and the combination of ozone and MP-UV on the formation of disinfection by-products, DBP precursors, and the biostability/bacterial regrowth potential. Protozoan parasites are a major public health concern as evidenced by waterborne outbreaks of Cryptosporidium in the early 1990s. USEPA regulators have proposed new regulations which require site-specific means corresponding to the source water for the removal or inactivation of Cryptosporidium. For water systems with vulnerable sources, UV disinfection offers a cost effective approach. Utilities that have already installed ozone systems and those considering a multiple barrier approach to disinfection are interested in the effectiveness of UV alone and UV combined with ozone.
Download or read book Ozonation of Water and Waste Water written by Christiane Gottschalk and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-02-01 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The leading resource on ozone technology, this book contains everything from chemical basics to technical and economic concerns. The text has been updated to include the latest developments in water treatment and industrial processes. Following an introduction, the first part looks at toxicology, reaction mechanisms and full-scale applications, while Part B covers experimental design, equipment and analytical methods, mass transfer, reaction kinetics and the application of ozone in combined processes.
Download or read book Ozonation of Water and Waste Water written by Christiane Gottschalk and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ozonation of compounds in water is a complex process. The mechanisms are very complicated, the parameters are many, but the possibilities of developing cost-effective treatment schemes for drinking water and waste water are large. Most books available today concentrate on either drinking water or waste water treatment, seldom dealing with both or explaining the essential differences. And only rare exceptions deal with the how-to of ozone experiments. This practical guide fills the gap. It contains the cumulative knowledge on experimental design, execution, interpretation and application. Drawing on experience gained from hours spent on laboratory research with drinking and waste waters, literature study, intensive discussion with leading experts, perplexed reflection and deep thought, the book offers practical help to avoid common pitfalls and unnecessary work. This book is aimed at professionals in industry and research currently using ozonation who want to optimize their system, as well as students beginning work with ozonation. It contains just enough information for beginners to start with, but goes rapidly to the detailed information that advanced readers need.
Download or read book Ozone Reaction Kinetics for Water and Wastewater Systems written by Fernando J. Beltran and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-12-29 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in ozonation for drinking water and wastewater treatment has soared in recent years due to ozone's potency as a disinfectant, and the increasing need to control disinfection byproducts that arise from the chlorination of water and wastewater. Ozone Reaction Kinetics for Water and Wastewater Systems is a comprehensive reference that

Download or read book Identification and Occurrence of Ozonation By Products in Drinking Water written by William Glaze and published by Amer Water Works Assn. This book was released on 1993 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the discovery of trihalomethanes and other chlorinated disinfection by-products, many utilities are considering alternative oxidants and disinfectants to chlorine. One such alternative is ozonation. However, almost no information exists on the by-products produced upon ozonation. This report describes methods for ozonation by-product analysis and the results of a by-products survey of facilities using ozonation on the full or pilot scale. -- Foreword.
