Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analog computing is one of the main pillars of Unconventional Computing. Almost forgotten for decades, we now see an ever-increasing interest in electronic analog computing because it offers a path to high-performance and highly energy-efficient computing. These characteristics are of great importance in a world where vast amounts of electric energy are consumed by today’s computer systems. Analog computing can deliver efficient solutions to many computing problems, ranging from general purpose analog computation to specialised systems like analog artificial neural networks. The book “Analog Computing” has established itself over the past decade as the standard textbook on the subject and has been substantially extended in this second edition, which includes more than 300 additional bibliographical entries, and has been expanded in many areas to include much greater detail. These enhancements will confirm this book’s status as the leading work in the field. It covers the history of analog computing from the Antikythera Mechanism to recent electronic analog computers and uses a wide variety of worked examples to provide a comprehensive introduction to programming analog computers. It also describes hybrid computers, digital differential analysers, the simulation of analog computers, stochastic computers, and provides a comprehensive treatment of classic and current analog computer applications. The last chapter looks into the promising future of analog computing.

Book Introduction to Electronic Analogue Computers

Download or read book Introduction to Electronic Analogue Computers written by C. A. A. Wass and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-16 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Electronic Analogue Computers, Second Revised Edition is based on the ideas and experience of a group of workers at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, Hants. This edition is almost entirely the work of Mr. K. C. Garner, of the College of Aeronautics, Cranfield. As various advances have been made in the technology involving electronic analogue computers, this book presents discussions on the said progress, including some acquaintance with the capabilities of electronic circuits and equipment. This text also provides a mathematical background including simple differential equations. It then further tackles topics on analog computers, including its types and functions. This book will be invaluable to students specializing in any computer related studies, as well as others interested in electronic analog computers.

Book Analog and Hybrid Computer Programming

Download or read book Analog and Hybrid Computer Programming written by Bernd Ulmann and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-05-22 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As classic digital computers are about to reach their physical and architectural boundaries, interest in unconventional approaches to computing, such as quantum and analog computers, is rapidly increasing. For a wide variety of practical applications, analog computers can outperform classic digital computers in terms of both raw computational speed and energy efficiency. This makes them ideally suited a co-processors to digital computers, thus forming hybrid computers. This second edition of "Analog and Hybrid Computer Programming" provides a thorough introduction to the programming of analog and hybrid computers. It contains a wealth of practical examples, ranging from simple problems such as radioactive decay, harmonic oscillators, and chemical reaction kinetics to advanced topics which include the simulation of neurons, chaotic systems such as a double-pendulum simulation and many more. In addition to these examples, it contains a chapter on special functions which can be used as "subroutines" in an analog computer setup.

Book Logic of Analog and Digital Machines

Download or read book Logic of Analog and Digital Machines written by Paolo Rocchi and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In what does the difference between analog and digital consist? What are the benefits of a digital solution with respect to a parallel analog solution? This is not a purely intellectual conundrum since managers and politicians make conspicuous investments in analog and digital infrastructures and systems. Scientists from different fields are searching for the appropriate definition of what is digital and analog, but the profile of the technologies that have changed mankind's lifestyle and the history of the world still resist the scrutiny of thinkers. The present work deriving from a long-term theoretical inquiry suggests some keys to interpret the digital and the analog machines. The author claims that understanding analog versus digital is not as easy as comparing the adjectives digital/continuous or natural/artificial, and conducts an accurate analysis of the systems' core. Frequently the author follows an historical perspective and does not refrain from comments on linguistics, anthropology, psychology, and other fields related to the information domain. Book jacket.

Book Nano scale CMOS Analog Circuits

Download or read book Nano scale CMOS Analog Circuits written by Soumya Pandit and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reliability concerns and the limitations of process technology can sometimes restrict the innovation process involved in designing nano-scale analog circuits. The success of nano-scale analog circuit design requires repeat experimentation, correct analysis of the device physics, process technology, and adequate use of the knowledge database. Starting with the basics, Nano-Scale CMOS Analog Circuits: Models and CAD Techniques for High-Level Design introduces the essential fundamental concepts for designing analog circuits with optimal performances. This book explains the links between the physics and technology of scaled MOS transistors and the design and simulation of nano-scale analog circuits. It also explores the development of structured computer-aided design (CAD) techniques for architecture-level and circuit-level design of analog circuits. The book outlines the general trends of technology scaling with respect to device geometry, process parameters, and supply voltage. It describes models and optimization techniques, as well as the compact modeling of scaled MOS transistors for VLSI circuit simulation. • Includes two learning-based methods: the artificial neural network (ANN) and the least-squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) method • Provides case studies demonstrating the practical use of these two methods • Explores circuit sizing and specification translation tasks • Introduces the particle swarm optimization technique and provides examples of sizing analog circuits • Discusses the advanced effects of scaled MOS transistors like narrow width effects, and vertical and lateral channel engineering Nano-Scale CMOS Analog Circuits: Models and CAD Techniques for High-Level Design describes the models and CAD techniques, explores the physics of MOS transistors, and considers the design challenges involving statistical variations of process technology parameters and reliability constraints related to circuit design.
