Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Outline of a Bible-School Curriculum That the Bible school has been an important factor in the moral and religious training of our children and young people is a fact freely admitted by the more discerning students of our national life. In spite of its neglect by professional educators, a neglect which is not easily accounted for, and the peculiarly difficult conditions under which it has had to do its work, much has been done for the formation of Christian character in the thousands who have come under its influence. That the work of the Bible school, judged from a teaching standpoint, has not been of a high character must be admitted even by its most ardent supporters; but that it has been one of the great moral influences in our land all must concede. Within the last few years there has been a deepening interest in the Bible school, and in other institutions and agencies for moral and religious training, which has finally resulted in the formation of the Religious Education Association, whose object is "to promote religious and moral education." From this association much is hoped for, and the time seems not far distant when the problems connected with moral and religious education shall be clearly defined, and many of them satisfactorily solved. This book was released on 2018-01-21 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Graded Bible Courses and Habit, Health First-Aid Outlines: For Use in Daily Vacation Bible Schools It will succeed if, by its use, teachers are led to more earnest, per sonal Bible study in finding and giving their daily message to children. The first hour every morning is given to the devotional, musical, and Biblical part of the program, the second hour to manual and recreational activities. If this second hour is conducted without regard to the spirit ual life of the child, the school will fail in its high mission. Work or industry without religion degrades man into a beast of burden, a machine; religion without industry, Without work is liable to be lost in empty dreams, worthless heroics, idle fancies. So teaches that immortal spirit, Froebel. Let us the teachers in Daily Vacation Bible Schools, take to heart his words, God created man in His own image, therefore man should create and bring forth like God. In the preparation of this manual there have been many helpers, to whom the international director wishes to return sincere thanks. Dr. Jenny B. Merrill has rendered invaluable assistance in the editorial work, besides contributing two courses of Bible stories, one for the primary age and one for the kindergarten. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible as It Is: A Teacher-Training-Class Education for Everybody, in Twelve Lessons of One Hour Each It may be well worth while to put the following paragraph in the form of a guarantee. For it has been tried out, time and again, and proven beyond all question that this method of Bible study produces quick and good results always. Any young person in the teens age or in the twenties, endowed with the ordinary education expected of his age by the public school curriculum, will, by studying these twelve lessons faithfully one hour each week for twelve weeks, become more familiar with the Bible as a book, as a library, and as a structure having a definite plan and purpose, than the majority of other people ever obtain before they reach the sunset side, of life. Why not try it out for yourself by doing the work suggested here? N o pupil ever learns Latin or Greek without writing out some exercises. W'riting fixes it in memory. Color these maps, look up these references by using the mental processes herein outlined, and you will be surprised to find how the whole Bible becomes visualized in its entirety as a living, heavenly messenger adapted to all your needs. Book Outlines for the Study of Biblical History and Literature Classic Reprint

Download or read book Outlines for the Study of Biblical History and Literature Classic Reprint written by Frank Knight Sanders and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Outlines for the Study of Biblical History and Literature The present course of study is the outgrowth of eighteen years of experiment in the effort to give an orderly view of the development and significance of the Bible. The students by whose needs the work has been shaped have included not only those who were looking forward to the work of the ministry, but graduate students pursuing special studies in Oriental history and literature, and undergraduates interested in the study of the Bible as a factor in broad culture. During these years, because of the rapidly increasing appreciation of the place of the Bible in general education, the third class has become by far the most important of the three. Growing out of the effort to meet such varied needs, these outlines will, it is hoped, prove acceptable to more than one class of students. Book How to Study and Teach the Bible Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Study and Teach the Bible My apology for writing this book is the special request from Dr. A. M. Townsend and the Sunday School Publishing Board, and also because I have waited ample time before daring to put in print the methods by which I have studied the Bible for my own benefit for a number of years. The methods here suggested in this book contain the secret of my being able to lecture on the entire Bible without the use of notes. I re gard it as peculiarly fitting that my own tried method of lecturing and teaching should be given in this Teacher Training Book, and that I have not put myself for ward, but have been requested by our Board to do this. The controlling reason why I have not written before was the fact that my Lord and Master wrote no books, pre ferring to personally teach a small group of men. There is just one desire I have, and that is that God will be glorified and my own peo ple helped by this humble effort. Book excerpt: The classic Harmony of the Gospels by J. W. McGarvey and Philip Y. Pendleton with interspersed comments. Attractively re-typeset, this enduring work is a valuable resource to modern Bible students. "In most commentaries a fifth or sixth of the space is taken up in drawing distinctions between the texts of the four Gospels, while in this work these distinctions are placed before the reader's eye, where he can see them for himself at a glance. Moreover, in other commentaries, which give the text, another sixth or seventh of the work is taken up in reprinting in the notes that portion of the text concerning which the commentator wishes to speak. Our interjected method avoids all this needless repetition, and makes it possible for us to present the comment with the least preliminary verbiage or introductory setting. Time is also saved because the reader does not have to look back and forth from the text at the top to the comment at the bottom of the page. Again, other commentaries lose a large amount of space by using the King James text. Those which preceded the revision waste space correcting the translation and modernizing its English: those published since the revision suffer a similar waste by drawing endless comparisons between the two texts. By choosing the American revision as the basis for our work, we have a text which needs but little explanation or apology, and we are thereby enabled to employ the reader's time and strength to his best advantage." --Excerpted from the Introduction

Book Methods of Teaching Biblical History

Download or read book Methods of Teaching Biblical History written by Edward N. Calisch and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Methods of Teaching Biblical History: Junior Grade The teaching of Bible History to children of tender age is no longer the simple task it was for our fathers. Without knowing anything definitely, or in detail, of the tremendous revolution that has taken place in the intellectual and spiritual worlds during the past generation, the child of today none the less senses the change in the religious atmosphere. There are obstacles of doubt, laxness and parental indifference, with which the teacher of a former generation did not have to contend, but which render far more difficult the work of the teacher of today. In keeping with the general plan of the Correspondence School, this course is designed to aid the teacher to overcome these difficulties, by laying stress upon the primary purpose of Bible History instruction, i. e., the ethical import of the historical narrative. The writer has not undertaken to decide upon the historical accuracy of any of the Biblical narratives. His purpose was to show how to give the pupil a knowledge of the life of the people of Israel during that important formative period of its life, when it progressed from a loosely connected group of tribes to a compact entity, with an aroused sense of national unity and an earnest consciousness of religious purpose, giving the episodes of that progress, but having a spirit of reverence and a constant sense of God's guidance pervade them throughout. The course is not intended as a text book, but as a teacher's guide. The Lesson Material is given as illustration.
