Download or read book An off Day in My World s Fair written by Ken Willidau and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-11-10 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written for people who are just completely sick of themselves, An Off Day In My World’s Fair contains more than 2,500 jokes and one-liners that offers readers one example of how to make nothing of themselves and being happy with the end results. A well-deserved getaway day. Willidau has taken leave of his senses to spend one day taking care of himself. Ken Willidau’s philosophy is that if you can’t get away from yourself take yourself away from you. Willidau treats himself fairly on his off day, amusing himself with all the things life has had to offer and throws it back at you. And you’ll be the one caught up in his escapism. Chapter exhibits make the day one to really remember and one to really forget. Among them, “Hall of Mirrors”, “The Food Building”, “A Rollercoaster Ride”, “The Freak Show”, “The Tunnel of Love” and “The Fireworks Extravaganza” make the day one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. The day is spent with a host of jokes using wit, dark humour, bottom 10 lists, tongue-in-cheek, plays on words and double entendre humour. Spending your day with Ken will take your mind off you while he goes out of his. An Off Day In My World’s Fair is a perfect read for those times when you know what to do with yourself and you just don’t care too.

Book Wasting Time as Time Wastes Me

Download or read book Wasting Time as Time Wastes Me written by Ken Willidau and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2016-06-18 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written for people who are in a race against time to waste as much of it in their lives, as possible, before time wastes them, Wasting Time As Time Wastes Me contains more than 2,500 jokes and one-liners that offers readers one more way to waste even more time, to show time that you are not going to stand for it, wasting you, while you can sit around reading a book wasting it. A stand-off for all times from birth to death. Willidau has reached back into the waste bins of history to find anything that was a worthy competitor of time that he wasted away for himself. Ken Willidaus philosophy is that if it was a waste of living life once, it cant do any harm wasting any more of it reading this book, to make it look like you did it with purpose and vision. Willidau wastes more of his time writing about the complete waste it was and isnt blaming fate, now, and instead is taking responsibility for his own inactions. Chapters pick through the wasteland looking for anything that made them worth documenting, in the first place, and seeing if theres nothing that could be built on, now, as a strategy against time. Among them, Time of Discovery, Family Time, TV Time, Past Primetime, and Times Up make the timeframe one of those never-in-a-lifetime experiences. The time is wasted with hollow words and a pointless heap of jokes using wit, dark humour, wasted comedic pauses, plays on words, hands-in-pockets humour, and double entendre humour. Wasting your time with Ken will have you sitting around wondering where all your time went as you spend it wasting more of your life on someone elses idea of it, for himself. Wasting Time As Time Wastes Me is a perfect read for those times you have it to waste, and you might as well waste it on someone elses waste of it than think about ways of wasting yourself. Times already got its sights on you and theres nothing you can do about it, so you might as well just get used to it, one way or the other. Lets get wasted.

Book The 1964 1965 New York World s Fair

Download or read book The 1964 1965 New York World s Fair written by Bill Cotter and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1964-1965 New York World's Fair was the largest international exhibition ever built in the United States. More than one hundred fifty pavilions and exhibits spread over six hundred forty-six acres helped the fair live up to its reputation as "the Billion-Dollar Fair." With the cold war in full swing, the fair offered visitors a refreshingly positive view of the future, mirroring the official theme: Peace through Understanding. Guests could travel back in time through a display of full-sized dinosaurs, or look into a future where underwater hotels and flying cars were commonplace. They could enjoy Walt Disney's popular shows, or study actual spacecraft flown in orbit. More than fifty-one million guests visited the fair before it closed forever in 1965. The 1964-1965 New York World's Fair captures the history of this event through vintage photographs, published here for the first time.

Download or read book Tomorrow Land written by Joseph Tirella and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013-12-23 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motivated by potentially turning Flushing Meadows, literally a land of refuse, into his greatest public park, Robert Moses—New York's "Master Builder"—brought the World's Fair to the Big Apple for 1964 and '65. Though considered a financial failure, the 1964-65 World' s Fair was a Sixties flashpoint in areas from politics to pop culture, technology to urban planning, and civil rights to violent crime. In an epic narrative, the New York Times bestseller Tomorrow-Land shows the astonishing pivots taken by New York City, America, and the world during the Fair. It fetched Disney's empire from California and Michelangelo's La Pieta from Europe; and displayed flickers of innovation from Ford, GM, and NASA—from undersea and outerspace colonies to personal computers. It housed the controversial work of Warhol (until Governor Rockefeller had it removed); and lured Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters. Meanwhile, the Fair—and its house band, Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians—sat in the musical shadows of the Beatles and Bob Dylan, who changed rock-and-roll right there in Queens. And as Southern civil rights efforts turned deadly, and violent protests also occurred in and around the Fair, Harlem-based Malcolm X predicted a frightening future of inner-city racial conflict. World's Fairs have always been collisions of eras, cultures, nations, technologies, ideas, and art. But the trippy, turbulent, Technicolor, Disney, corporate, and often misguided 1964-65 Fair was truly exceptional.

Book It Could Never Happen but It Did

Download or read book It Could Never Happen but It Did written by Edward Watkins and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2018-08-07 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It Could Never Happen but It Did By: Edward Watkins “Dear Edward, dear friend, you are undoubtedly a storyteller of unequaled memory! I was fascinated by your remembrance of 90+ years ago. You wrote over 100+ pages of your life you obviously enjoyed. I thank you for sharing your book. It’s awesome.” -Charlene Dawson, writer and journalist “Edward, dear! What a fantastic tale you weave! Your memories and book style captivated my whole being. I had thought I would merely peruse the hundred and twenty pages and just say a little white lie that I had read the whole thing. But, no, I could not quit until I read it all. I believe your book should appeal to those who lived in that era and those who are interested in how life ‘was’ in the olden/golden days.” -Charline Gajdos, lifelong secretary and world traveler “Watkins is the best salesman since St. Paul. [He] shows that faith can move mountains.” -John Dudley, Scout Master of California “Dear Edward, this was an amazing autobiography. Your memory for the details is extraordinary and the recounting of your childhood, flying career, sales career, and golfing experiences is amazing. Thank you for the opportunity to read it.” -Sally and Basil Binckley This is the story about Edward Watkins’s life from his birth to his forty-third birthday. It covers his childhood and his working eight hours a night as an apprentice machinist while in high school. It’s about how he became a Naval Aviator in 1943. He was discharged February 2, 1946, and proceeded to get a college education. He started selling books part-time and found out that he could make more money as an encyclopedia salesman than he could as an engineer. Watkins returned to service for the Korean War October 31, 1952, and was discharged on March 3, 1954. Then Watkins went back to bookselling where he became the regional VP for Collier’s of New England area. He eventually quit that position because his wife could not stand Eastern ragweed and returned to California. He became interested in cosmetics and acquired a dealership in Holiday Magic in 1968. Watkin’s wife divorced him and remarried her first husband on September 7, 1968. Watkin’s called her three months later and she was unhappy. He told her to return home. She canceled her marriage and she and Watkins were remarried February 27, 1969. It could never happen, but it did.
