This book was released on 1991-08-22 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The three final chapters are devoted to applied welfare economics: methods for revealing people's preferences, cost-benefit analysis, and project evaluation in a risky world. The book is intended for introductory and intermediate courses in welfare economics, microeconomics, and public economics. It will also be suitable for courses in health economics, environmental economics, and cost-benefit analysis, as well as those undertaking project evaluations in government agencies and private firms.

Book An Analytical Exposition of the Social Welfare Role of Wealth in Islam

Download or read book An Analytical Exposition of the Social Welfare Role of Wealth in Islam written by Ahmad Bello Dogarawa and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses the social welfare role of wealth in Islam. The paper, which is based on literature survey, posits that Islam prescribes a social welfare role on the wealth of the rich towards the economically disadvantaged members of the society. It explains the means by which wealth could be created, enhanced, preserved and distributed for the benefit of oneself and the society at large. It also maintains a balance between individualism and collectivism with regard implementation of wealth distribution policies by assigning the roles to individuals, the family, the community and finally the State. The paper concludes that in order to effectively discharge the responsibility, the principles and ethics of ownership of wealth in Islam should be strictly adhered to, and a balance should be made between income and expenses, between self-desire and community service, between creating wealth and hoarding it, between wealth accumulation and distributive justice.

Book Social Responsibilities and Human Welfare Developments

Download or read book Social Responsibilities and Human Welfare Developments written by Dr. Sulaiman Lebbe Rifai and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this short article is to highlight and pinpoint the significance of social responsibility and social welfare in Islam. No religion emphasises charity as Islam does. It is even claimed by some orientalists that the concept of charitable work was borrowed by Christians from Islamic traditions. From the formative period of Islam, Muslims started to donate and give abundantly for the sake of Islam. The Prophet Muhammad was an orphan, and his mission was funded and supported by his followers. Giving charity is one of the main pillars of Islam. Muslims are asked to purify their money and wealth by giving a portion of their money and wealth to the poor. Although Qur'an and prophetic traditions give such a prominent place for charity, it can be argued that Islamic charitable organizations are still primitive. Christian organizations and denominations are managed to develop charitable through hundreds of NGOs and other financial organizations and yet, Muslims have failed to develop any systemic organization to give charities. Yet, Muslims give more charities than any other community but not in any organized and methodical way. There are more than 53 Muslim countries in the world and yet, no Muslim country has developed any good systematic system to develop a good welfare system to help the poor and needy in Muslim communities. Muslims are giving to their charities individually even in this digital age. Charities such as Zakat and other Islamic charitable donations are not yet computerised and organised in any cooperative system. This article examines these challenges in this article in comparison with western welfare systems. A simple comparison is made between the social welfare and security systems of the West and Muslim countries to compare similarities and dissimilarities. The main postulate of this short article is that the west's material and socio welfare developments are not unattainable by the Islamic world. Some Muslim countries are rich enough to develop the best social welfare system and yet, political nepotism and autocracy do not allow Muslim economists and policymakers to come up with any fair system. This paper is divided into four parts: a). A brief history of social welfare developments in Britain. b) Islamic concepts of social responsibilities and welfare developments. c) The role of Christian missionaries in social welfare developments. d). The role of Islamic movements in social welfare developments.

Book Social Justice and Islamic Economics

Download or read book Social Justice and Islamic Economics written by Toseef Azid and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-02-25 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the rule of the current economic order, social injustice is ever-increasing. Issues such as poverty, inhumane working conditions, inadequate wages, social insecurity and an unhealthy labor market continue to persist. Many states are also unable to produce policies capable of resolving these problems. The characteristics of the capitalist system currently render it unable to provide social justice. In fact, on the contrary, the system reinforces these injustices and prevents economic and social welfare from reaching the masses. Many Muslim scholars have analyzed and, indeed, criticized this system for years. This book argues that an alternative and more equitable theoretical and practical economical order can been developed within the framework of Islamic principles. On the other hand, the experiences of societies under the rule of Muslim governments do not always seem to hold great promise for an alternative understanding of social justice. In addition, the behaviors of Muslim individuals within their economic lives are mostly shaped by the necessities of daily economic conditions rather than by the tenets of Islam that stand with social justice. Until 1990s, studies of Islamic economics made connections between finance and the notion of social justice, but work conducted more recently has neglected this issue. It is therefore evident that the topic of social justice needs to be revisited in a more in-depth manner. Filling an important gap in existing literature, the book uniquely connects social justice and Islamic finance and economics on this topic. Theory, practice and key issues are presented simultaneously throughout this book, which is based on the writings of a number of eminent scholars.
