Book An Introduction to the Statistical Theory of Classical Simple Dense Fluids

Download or read book An Introduction to the Statistical Theory of Classical Simple Dense Fluids written by G.H.A. Cole and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to the Statistical Theory of Classical Simple Dense Fluids covers certain aspects of the study of dense fluids, based on the analysis of the correlation effects between representative small groupings of molecules. The book starts by discussing empirical considerations including the physical characteristics of fluids; measured molecular spatial distribution; scattering by a continuous medium; the radial distribution function; the mean potential; and the molecular motion in liquids. The text describes the application of the theories to the description of dense fluids (i.e. interparticle force, classical particle trajectories, and the Liouville Theorem) and the deduction of expressions for the fluid thermodynamic functions. The theory of equilibrium short-range order by using the concept of closure approximation or total correlation; some numerical consequences of the equilibrium theory; and irreversibility are also looked into. The book further tackles the kinetic derivation of the Maxwell-Boltzmann (MB) equation; the statistical derivation of the MB equation; the movement to equilibrium; gas in a steady state; and viscosity and thermal conductivity. The text also discusses non-equilibrium liquids. Physicists, chemists, and engineers will find the book invaluable.

Download or read book Liquid State VIIIA written by Douglas Henderson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical Chemistry: An Advanced Treatise: Liquid State, Volume VIIIA, deals with simple liquids because the theory is most developed for these liquids. The purpose of this treatise is to present a comprehensive treatment of physical chemistry for advanced students and investigators in a reasonably small number of volumes. An attempt has been made to include all important topics in physical chemistry together with borderline subjects which are of particular interest and importance. The book contains six chapters and begins with an introduction to intermolecular pair potential-energy functions, the principle of corresponding states, and the equation of state for dense liquids. It then discusses the static and dynamic structure of liquids, followed by separate chapters on the four main techniques in the theory of liquids: simulation studies, integral equation methods, lattice theories, and perturbation theories.

Book Experimental Thermodynamics

Download or read book Experimental Thermodynamics written by B. Le Neindre and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental Thermodynamics, Volume II: Experimental Thermodynamics of Non-reacting Fluids focuses on experimental methods and procedures in the study of thermophysical properties of fluids. The selection first offers information on methods used in measuring thermodynamic properties and tests, including physical quantities and symbols for physical quantities, thermodynamic definitions, and definition of activities and related quantities. The text also describes reference materials for thermometric fixed points, temperature measurement under pressures, and pressure measurements. The publication takes a look at absolute measurement of volume and equation of state of gases at high temperatures and low or moderate temperatures. Discussions focus on volumes of cubes of fused silica, density of water, and methods of measuring pressure. The text also examines the compression of liquids and thermodynamic properties and velocity of sound, including thermodynamics of volume changes, weight methods, and adiabatic compression. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in the thermophysical properties of fluids.

Book Water A Comprehensive Treatise

Download or read book Water A Comprehensive Treatise written by Felix Franks and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the previous volumes many new aspects of the physical and life sciences have been developed in which the properties of water play a dominant role. Although, according to its preface, Volume 5 was to be the last one of the treatise, these recent developments have led to a revision of that statement. The present volume and its companion, still in preparation, deal with topics that were already mentioned in the preface to Volume 5 as gaining in importance. The recent development of X-ray and, more particularly, neutron scattering techniques have led to studies of "structure" in aqueous solutions of electrolytes on the one hand, and to the role of water in protein structure and function on the other. Both these topics have reached a stage where reviews of the present state of knowledge are useful. The application of ab initio methods to calculations of hydration and conformation of small molecules has a longer history, but here again a critical summary is timely. The role of solvent effects in reaction kinetics and mechanisms should have had a place in Volume 2 of this treatise, but, as sometimes happens, the author who had taken on this task failed tQ live up to his promise. However, since 1972 the physical chemistry of mixed aqueous solvents has made considerable strides, so that the belated discussion of this topic (by a new author) is built on evidence that was not available at the time of publication of Volume 2.
