Book Basics of Metal Mining Influenced Water

Download or read book Basics of Metal Mining Influenced Water written by Virginia T. McLemore and published by SME. This book was released on 2008 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basics of Metal Mining Influenced Water is a must-read for planners, regulators, consultants, land managers, students, researchers, or others concerned about the environmentally sound management of metal mine wastes and drainage quality. The first of a series of six handbooks on technologies for managing metal mine and metallurgical process draining, this book offers a unique, comprehensive perspective on the subject. Unlike other texts that focus primarily on acid drainage from coal mines, the authors examine both acidic and neutral pH waters that can be hazardous to the environment. Planning a new mine in today s increasingly contentious regulatory and political environment demands a different philosophy. Basics of Metal Mining Influenced Water takes an innovative, holistic approach by considering all aspects of the mine life cycle, including closure. Written by a team of experts from state and federal governments, academia, and the mining industry, Basics of Metal Mining Influenced Water also discusses the major physical and chemical relationships between mining, climate, environment, and mine waste drainage quality. The authors have included an extensive glossary defining hundreds of technical terms for easier reading and understanding.

Book Evolutionary and Revolutionary Technologies for Mining

Download or read book Evolutionary and Revolutionary Technologies for Mining written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-03-14 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT) of the U. S. Department of Energy commissioned the National Research Council (NRC) to undertake a study on required technologies for the Mining Industries of the Future Program to complement information provided to the program by the National Mining Association. Subsequently, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health also became a sponsor of this study, and the Statement of Task was expanded to include health and safety. The overall objectives of this study are: (a) to review available information on the U.S. mining industry; (b) to identify critical research and development needs related to the exploration, mining, and processing of coal, minerals, and metals; and (c) to examine the federal contribution to research and development in mining processes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second edition Steve Kesler (University of Michigan) has been added as an author to rewrite some chapters. The motivation for this revised edition is to more intensively address economic issues that surround the exploitation of mineral resources. This emphasis gives the book a unique character. With these sections Metals and Society deals with issues that pervade much of current science reporting – the rate of exploitation of natural resources, the question of when or if these resources will be exhausted, the pollution and social disturbance that accompanies mining, the compromises and challenges that arise from the explosion of demand from China, India and other rapidly developing countries, and the moral issues that surround mining of metals in lesser developed countries for consumption in the “first-world” countries. With its dual character, the book will be useful as an introductory text for students in the earth sciences and a reference volume for students, teachers and researchers of geography, economics and the social sciences.

Book Early Metal Mining and Production

Download or read book Early Metal Mining and Production written by Paul T. Craddock and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technical advancement has for millennia been intimately linked to the mining and production of metals, and this book provides a comprehensive history of the early development of extractive metallurgy. Drawing on the latest archaeological discoveries and laboratory investigations, Paul Craddock brings together for the first time the evidence for the very inception of mining and smelting, showing that early techniques were often different from what was previously believed. The book presents much new material throughout and provides new interpretations and insights into many aspects of early metal production right through to the blast furnaces and high-temperature distillation units that heralded the Industrial Revolution. Integrating documentary evidence with metallurgical study and new information from archaeological excavations in Europe, India, North America, and China, this book gives a full and approachable synthesis of mining and metal production everywhere.

Book Metal Removal and Recovery from Mining Wastewater and E waste Leachate

Download or read book Metal Removal and Recovery from Mining Wastewater and E waste Leachate written by Suthee Janyasuthiwong and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-02-18 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal contamination in the environment is a persisting global issue. The metal reservoirs in the earth have declined due to society’s needs and due to uncontrolled mining activities. Therefore, the idea to recover metals from waste streams has emerged. In this thesis, cost competitive technologies such as adsorption using agro-wastes and precipitation using an inverse fluidized bed (IFB) reactor were investigated, with special emphasis on the recovery of base metals. Groundnut shell showed good potential for metal (Cu, Pb and Zn) removal. From artificial neural network modeling, the performance of the sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) was found to be strongly pH dependent; the removal efficiency of Cu and Zn in the IFB at pH 5.0 was >97%. Electronic waste is a good candidate as secondary metal resource. The recovery of Cu from computer printed circuited boards (PCBs) using biogenic sulfide precipitation was investigated as well. Using this technology, Cu could be recovered at ~0.48 g Cu/g PCBs.
