Book Three Dimensional Analysis of Extrusion Through Taper Die

Download or read book Three Dimensional Analysis of Extrusion Through Taper Die written by and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An upper bound solution for extrusion of "triangular" sectioned product through taper die from round sectioned billet has been developed. A simple discontinuous kinematically admissible velocity field with optimization parameter is proposed. From the proposed velocity field the upper bound solution on non-dimensional extrusion pressure are determined with respect to chosen process parameters. The theoretical results are compared with experimental result to check the validity of the proposed velocity fields. The reformulated SERR technique is used to find out the kinematically admissible velocity field applied to deformation zone surrounded by flat surfaces. This velocity field is used to compute upper bound extrusion pressure at various area of reduction. The triangular sectioned product from round sectioned billet through taper die is taken for upper bound analysis using SERR technique. As this section is symmetry about one axis with round sectioned billet only one half of section is taken as domain interest for deformation zone to calculate the velocity field. Detailed formulations of models are presented. To validate the proposed model/analysis experiments are carried out taking lead as the working material. An experimental set-up is designed and fabricated with four split type taper dies for this purpose. Experiments are carried out at dry and lubricated condition of the dies to check the friction effect. The results obtained indicate that the predictions both in extrusion load and the deformed configuration are in good agreement with the experiment under different lubrication conditions.

Book Modeling Analysis and Control of Hydraulic Actuator for Forging

Download or read book Modeling Analysis and Control of Hydraulic Actuator for Forging written by Xinjiang Lu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-30 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes load modeling approaches for complex work pieces and batch forgings, and demonstrates analytical modeling and data-driven modeling approaches for known and unknown complex forging processes. It overcomes the current shortcomings of modeling, analysis and control approaches, presenting contributions in three major areas: In the first, several novel modeling approaches are proposed: a process/shape-decomposition modeling method to help estimate the deformation force; an online probabilistic learning machine for the modeling of batch forging processes; and several data-driven identification and modeling approaches for unknown forging processes under different work conditions. The second area develops model-based dynamic analysis methods to derive the conditions of stability and creep. Lastly, several novel intelligent control methods are proposed for complex forging processes. One of the most serious problems in forging forming involves the inaccurate forging conditions, velocity and position offered by the hydraulic actuator due to the complexity of both the deformation process of the metal work piece and the motion process of the hydraulic actuator. The book summarizes the current weaknesses of modeling, analysis and control approaches. are summarized as follows: a) With the current modeling approaches it is difficult to model complex forging processes with unknown parameters, as they only model the dynamics in local working areas but do not effectively model unknown nonlinear systems across multiple working areas; further, they do not take the batch forging process into account, let alone its distribution modeling. b) All previous dynamic analysis studies simplify the forging system to having a single-frequency pressure fluctuation and neglect the influences of non-linear load force. Further, they fail to take the flow equation in both valves and cylinders into account. c) Conventional control approaches only consider the linear deformation force and pay no attention to sudden changes and the motion synchronization for the multi-cylinder system, making them less effective for complex, nonlinear time-varying forging processes subject to sudden changes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Army Materials and Mechanics Research Center has con ducted the Sagamore Army Materials Research Conference in coop eration with the Materials Science Group of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science of Syracuse University since 1954. The purpose of the conference has been to gather to gether scientists and engineers from academic institutions, in dustry and government who are uniquely qualified to explore in depth a subject of importance to the Army, the Department of Defense and the scientific community. This volume, Advances in Deformation Processing, addresses the areas of Analytical Advances, Workability, Processing to Optimize Properties, Advanced Applications - Materials, and Advanced Applications - Processes. The dedicated assistance of Mr. Joseph Bernier of the Army Materials and Mechanics Research Center throughout the stages of the conference planning and finally the publication of the Sagamore Conference Proceedings is deeply appreciated. The support of Helen Brown DeMascio of Syracuse University in p- paring the final manuscript is acknowledged. The continued active interest and support of these conferences by Dr. A. E.
