Book Development of a New Generation Solid Rocket Motor Ignition Computer Code

Download or read book Development of a New Generation Solid Rocket Motor Ignition Computer Code written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of experimental and numerical investigations of the flow field in the head-end star grain slots of the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Motor. This work provided the basis for the development of an improved solid rocket motor ignition transient code which is also described in this report. The correlation between the experimental and numerical results is excellent and provides a firm basis for the development of a fully three-dimensional solid rocket motor ignition transient computer code. Book Transient Combustion in Solid Propellant Cracks

Download or read book Transient Combustion in Solid Propellant Cracks written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A one-dimensional theoretical model, incorporating the Noble-Abel dense gas law, has been developed to describe the transient model combustion phenomena inside a propellant crack. The theoretical model can be used to predict wave phenomena, heat transfer from the gas to the propellant surface and associated thermal penetration, flame propagation, and resultant pressurization at various locations along the propellant cavity. Calculations made with the current theoretical model revealed that the internal pressurization rate, pressure gradient, and flame velocity in propellant cracks (for which gases can penetrate) decrease as: the gap width increases, the rocket chamber pressurization rate decreases, and the propellant gasification temperature increases. Additionally, the predicted flame spreading was found to decelerate in a region near the crack tip; this phenomena has been experimentally observed by others.

Book Fundamentals of Rocket Propulsion

Download or read book Fundamentals of Rocket Propulsion written by DP Mishra and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-07-20 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book follows a unified approach to present the basic principles of rocket propulsion in concise and lucid form. This textbook comprises of ten chapters ranging from brief introduction and elements of rocket propulsion, aerothermodynamics to solid, liquid and hybrid propellant rocket engines with chapter on electrical propulsion. Worked out examples are also provided at the end of chapter for understanding uncertainty analysis. This book is designed and developed as an introductory text on the fundamental aspects of rocket propulsion for both undergraduate and graduate students. It is also aimed towards practicing engineers in the field of space engineering. This comprehensive guide also provides adequate problems for audience to understand intricate aspects of rocket propulsion enabling them to design and develop rocket engines for peaceful purposes.

Book Transient Ignition Mechanisms of Confined Solid Propellants Under Rapid Pressurization

Download or read book Transient Ignition Mechanisms of Confined Solid Propellants Under Rapid Pressurization written by Kenneth K. Kuo and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive theoretical model was formulated to study the transient ignition mechanisms of solid propellants under rapidly varying pressure conditions. The model considers a two-dimensional geometry to describe the ignition of a heterogeneous propellant. The rate of pressurization has been included in the energy equation to simulate rocket motor ignition conditions. The model does not make any a priori assumption of solid-phase, heterogeneous, or gas-phase ignition mechanism. Chemical reactions are considered in the gas phase, at the interface as well as in the subsurface. The most up-to-date chemical kinetics information is included in the model. A generalized ignition criterion has been proposed which allows ignition to occur at any site.
