This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Exposition of the Construction and Idioms of Chinese Sentences, as Found in Colloquial Mandarin: For the Use of Learners of the Language The following little volume is the result of the author's studies of the idioms and construction of Chinese colloquial. It is of course crude, imperfect and unfinished, as every first attempt almost necessarily in. Friendly criticism is invited. The author had not studied Chinese long before he felt convinced that there was a far better method of acquiring a speaking knowledge of it than by learning every sentence by rote de nova. Having acquired the words and their use, there must be some general principles by which they are construed into sentences. Book Making Food in Local and Global Contexts

Download or read book Making Food in Local and Global Contexts written by Atsushi Nobayashi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-21 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of research focusing on the anthropological aspects of how food is made in modern society from both global and local perspectives. Modern food consumed in any society is created in a variety of natural and cultural environments. There is a "food democracy" in which how we procure and share food can be an indicator of our participation in society, while food nurtured in particular climates and land can be transmitted to the outside world owing to the influence of tourism and the global economy, a phenomenon that is recognized on a global scale as exemplified by the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. In other words, food is an aspect of both culture and civilization. Anthropological approaches are used to reveal the humanistic aspects of food, highlighting the strength and individuality of regional and ethnic foods in global civilizations. The book is a compilation of results from sessions of the international symposium “Making Food in Human and Natural History”, which took place on March 18 and 19, 2019, in Osaka, Japan.

This book was released on 2016-07-06 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Dictionary of Colloquial Idioms in the Mandarin Dialect The alphabetical arrangement was adopted for the sake of convenience, and is purely arbitrary, for many sentences would stand as well, and perhaps better, under other headings; but the object was to keep as much as possible to Saxon verbs which are more likely to come uppermost in the ow of ordinary conversation. It is not, however, supposed that every sentence as it now stands will be found of sufficient value to commit to memory, but only that each one contains a useful idiom which was actually heard in conversation, and may be adapted as circumstances require; moreover, that as all trace of dialect or local taint has been carefully eliminated, the speaker will find himself on common ground with educated natives from any one of the eighteen provinces. Book Pearl S Buck

Download or read book Pearl S Buck written by Peter Conn and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-01-28 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most popular novelists of the twentieth century, winner of a Pulitzer and Nobel Prize for Literature and an active social and political campaigner, particularly in the field of women's issues and Asian-American relations, Pearl Buck has, until now, remained 'hidden in public view'. Best known, perhaps, as the prolific author of The Good Earth, Buck led a career which extended well beyond her eighty works of fiction and non-fiction and deep into the public sphere. In this critically acclaimed biography, Peter Conn retrieves Pearl Buck from the footnotes of literary and cultural history and reinstates her as a figure of compelling and uncommon significance in twentieth-century literary, cultural and political history.
