Book Performance Management Transformation

Download or read book Performance Management Transformation written by Elaine D. Pulakos and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-02-28 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No other business process has endured such great debate as performance management. Viewed as a critical cornerstone for organizational alignment, it is often met with anxiety and confusion by both managers and employees. For over 50 years, strategies such as cascading goals and employee ranking have tried to add value to performance management with little success. But in recent years, new ideas have transformed the field into a less formal process designed to encourage employee behaviors that actually drive performance. Performance Management Transformation takes a practical approach to the current and future state of performance management across the organizational landscape. Case studies from Toyota, Patagonia, Medtronic, GoGo Inflight, and AbbVie, alongside research and commentary by thought leaders in the field, showcase how organizations are taking control and redesigning their performance management processes to address their specific organizational goals, strategies, needs, and preferences.

Book Motivating Public Employees

Download or read book Motivating Public Employees written by Marc Esteve and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-06-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What motivates public employees to work hard? This Element systematically reviews answers from public administration research. The authors locate this research in a novel two-dimensional typology, which shows that public employees can be motivated for other- and self-interested reasons and extrinsic (motivated by outcomes) and intrinsic (motivated by work itself) reasons. Public administration research sheds significant light on extrinsic motivators: working hard to help society (public service motivation), one's organization (organizational commitment) and oneself (financial incentives). Future research should focus on hitherto understudied motivators: symbolic rewards and intrinsic motivators, such as enjoyable work tasks, warm glow, and relatedness with colleagues. Supplementary material for this Element is available online.

Book Management System Impact on Employee Motivation

Download or read book Management System Impact on Employee Motivation written by Persilla Ramirez and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employee motivation continues to be discussed in public and private sector organizations. The proposed research is designed to provide an understanding on how management systems have a direct impact on employee motivation. A management system is a set of policies and procedures used by management to run and operate an organization. Two of the more well know management systems are Toyota Production System (TPS) and Lean Six Sigma. Both TPS and Lean Six Sigma are integrated socio-technical systems that look to improve the organization by understanding the relationship between people and technology to continuously improve the organization. While there is readily available literature on how management systems impact employee satisfaction, there has been little research on the impacts to employee motivation. This study seeks to bridge the research gap in regard to the impacts of such management systems on employee motivation and deliver guidance for public sector organizations seeking to improve employee motivation.

This book was released on 2016 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to comprehensively examine performance management systems to determine the characteristics that are most influential in predicting desirable organizational outcomes. Results of an online survey administered to 159 participants revealed that the four performance management system categories significantly predicted employees’ perceived effectiveness of their performance management system and employee engagement. The activities category was found to be the strongest predictor of perceived effectiveness and employee engagement. Four performance management system characteristics significantly led employees to perceive their performance management system to be effective and be engaged at work. These four performance management system characteristics include systems that focused on the results employees achieved, evaluated employees on their contextual performance, facilitated the construction of individual development plans for employees, and allowed for participative decision making between managers and subordinates. The results suggested that organizations should implement these characteristics into their performance management system to increase perceived effectiveness of the system and employee engagement.

Book excerpt: This examination graphically illustrates the conditions that make dreams of a better life for all virtually unrealizable in rural areas of South Africa. Through the voices of rural people themselves, this study tells not only what the problems surrounding education are but also what can and should be done when the South African government launches its offensive against poverty in rural areas. Rigorous and qualitative, the text is an overview of the need of great numbers of people for the opportunities and capabilities that education can provide for their futures. It also shows the existing situation of many impoverished populations worldwide and illustrates that poverty and inequality continue where such issues are not addressed.
