Book Mathematics Attitude in Fifth and Sixth Grade Students

Download or read book Mathematics Attitude in Fifth and Sixth Grade Students written by Amanda Lynn Grimes and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines mathematical attitude of students in the fifth grade to sixth grade. Two geographical regions in Texas with different ethnic distributions were surveyed. In addition to the impact of grade level, the study investigates the influence of gender, ethnicity and region on student attitude toward mathematics. Attitude was measured using the Math and Me survey constructed by Adelson and McCoach [1], which considers attitude based on student's mathematical self-perceptions and their enjoyment of mathematics. The analysis performed provides evidence that the transition into the sixth grade had a negative effect on student attitude. Multivariate analysis indicated that grade is the only main effect of significance impacting overall attitude however, all other factors considered are present in significant interactions.

Book The Relationship Between Gender Mathematics Achievement and Student Attitudes Toward Mathematics

Download or read book The Relationship Between Gender Mathematics Achievement and Student Attitudes Toward Mathematics written by Joseph Antwi and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigated whether there were differences between gender, mathematics achievement, and student attitudes toward mathematics. This study also analyzed the relationships between achievement and attitude by gender. This study involved fifth grade students at a public school in North Dakota. Results showed no significant difference in gender in terms of achievement in mathematics but did show significant difference in one of three categories concerning the attitudes of the students toward mathematics. No relationship was demonstrated between achievement and attitude by gender. The author therefore concluded that mathematics achievement and attitude towards mathematics were not themselves dependent on gender.

Book Attitudes Beliefs Motivation and Identity in Mathematics Education

Download or read book Attitudes Beliefs Motivation and Identity in Mathematics Education written by Markku S. Hannula and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book records the state of the art in research on mathematics-related affect. It discusses the concepts and theories of mathematics-related affect along the lines of three dimensions. The first dimension identifies three broad categories of affect: motivation, emotions, and beliefs. The book contains one chapter on motivation, including discussions on how emotions and beliefs relate to motivation. There are two chapters that focus on beliefs and a chapter on attitude which cross-cuts through all these categories. The second dimension covers a rapidly fluctuating state to a more stable trait. All chapters in the book focus on trait-type affect and the chapter on motivation discusses both these dimensions. The third dimension regards the three main levels of theorizing: physiological (embodied), psychological (individual) and social. All chapters reflect that mathematics-related affect has mainly been studied using psychological theories.
