Book AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE SURFACE PRESSURE AND THE LAMINAR BOUNDARY LAYER ON A BLUNT FLAT PLATE IN HYPERSONIC FLOW VOLUME 2 LAMINAR BOUNDARY LAYER PROFILE ON THE FLAT PLATE

Download or read book AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE SURFACE PRESSURE AND THE LAMINAR BOUNDARY LAYER ON A BLUNT FLAT PLATE IN HYPERSONIC FLOW VOLUME 2 LAMINAR BOUNDARY LAYER PROFILE ON THE FLAT PLATE written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The laminar boundary layer on unswept, 1/2-inch thick, cylindrically- blunted flat plate was examined at Mach numbers of 7, 10, 12 and 14; at Reynolds numbers from 9000 to 21,300, based on the plate thickness; and at angles-of- attack of 0, 10 (compression) and 15 degrees (expansion). The layer was probed at three stations, S/D = 8, 16 and 22 using a pitot probe and a sonic-pneumatic total temperature probe. The tests were conducted in the 12-inch continuous hypersonic wind tunnel of the Ohio State University Aerodynamic Laboratory. The two probe outputs, together with the static pressure at the wall, were processed through an analogue computer and the results, i.e., Mach number, velocity, temperature, etc., are tabulated as functions of distance from the surface. Integrations were performed to obtain displacement and momentum thicknesses. Skin friction was also obtained, through the measurement of the velocity gradient at the wall. The results are presented in tabulated form, while typical data are plotted to illustrate the trends established by Mach number, Reynolds number and angle-of-attack.

Book AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE SURFACE PRESSURE AND THE LAMINAR BOUNDARY LAYER ON A BLUNT FLAT PLATE IN HYPERSONIC FLOW VOL 1 SURFACE PRESSURE DISTRIBUTIONS ON A BLUNTED FLAT PLATE

Download or read book AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE SURFACE PRESSURE AND THE LAMINAR BOUNDARY LAYER ON A BLUNT FLAT PLATE IN HYPERSONIC FLOW VOL 1 SURFACE PRESSURE DISTRIBUTIONS ON A BLUNTED FLAT PLATE written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pressures were measured over the surface of an unswept blunt flat plate having a cylindrical leading edge 1/2-inch in diameter. The flat plate was side-mounted in the ALOSU 12-inch continuous hypersonic wind tunnel. Separate tests were conducted with cylinders in order to obtain detailed data for the leading-edge. Stagnation temperatures were sufficiently high to eliminate condensation effects. The leading edge and cylinder pressure ratios were noted to be independent of both Mach number and Reynolds number. The flat plate pressure ratios show a small dependence on Mach number. Reynolds number effects on the plate pressure ratios were small except at the lower levels of Reynolds number where the interaction of the thickened boundary layer caused increases in pressure.

Book Theoretical and Experimental Studies of Laminar Flow Separation on Flat Plate wedge Compression Surfaces in the Hypersonic Strong Interaction Regime

Download or read book Theoretical and Experimental Studies of Laminar Flow Separation on Flat Plate wedge Compression Surfaces in the Hypersonic Strong Interaction Regime written by Michael S. Holden and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes a theoretical and experimental investigation of the properties of attached and separated regions of shock wave-laminar boundary layer interactions in the strong interaction regime. A study was made of the flow over a flat plate-wedge compression surface in the high Mach number, low Reynolds number regime where the interaction between the viscous and inviscid regions over the basic flat plate is 'strong' and of fundamental importance to the problem. The theoretical analysis described in the first part of the paper treats the development of the viscous layer and its interaction with the external inviscid stream, using an integral representation for the boundary layer equations. The analysis describes the strong interaction over the flat plate, the transition from a supercritical to a subcritical boundary layer upstream of the separation point, and the subsequent development of the viscous layer through to the end of the interaction. The theory was compared with experimental measurements in both strong and weak interaction regions of separated flow. The complementary experimental study described in the second part of the paper was designed to investigate the shock wave-boundary layer interaction on flat plate-wedge compression surfaces in the strong interaction regime. Book Viscous Flow Interaction Studies

Download or read book Viscous Flow Interaction Studies written by Robert H. Korkegi and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research was designed to gain understanding of the flow of air at high speeds over the components of lifting supersonic and hypersonic vehicles--wings, flaps, fins, inlets--and their interactions with respect to heating, surface friction, pressure, and aerodynamic forces. The objective was to help predict (a) flows on complex aerospace vehicle configurations in high-speed flight and (b) the location of areas of high heating. The research covers the areas of laminar and turbulent boundary layers, boundary layer transition, boundary layer separation, base flows and wakes, low density flows, three-dimensional interactions, viscous flow problems, and some flow measurement techniques.

Book Hypersonic Viscous Interaction An Experimental Investigation of the Flow Over Flat Plates at Incidence and Around an Expansion Corner

Download or read book Hypersonic Viscous Interaction An Experimental Investigation of the Flow Over Flat Plates at Incidence and Around an Expansion Corner written by John L. Stollery and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flat plate and expansion corner models were tested over a range of positive and negative incidences in a continuous hypersonic wind tunnel operating at M = 14.8. Surface pressure distributions were obtained for comparison with the viscous interaction theories of Cheng and Sullivan. Since these theories assume 'local flat plate similarity' for the boundary layer flow, pitot pressure profiles were measured at various stations along the plates. It often proved difficult to define the boundary layer edge within the shock layer and total temperature profiles would greatly assist in interpreting the data. Schlieren pictures and oil flow visualization gave good indications of the extent of end effects, the onset of separation caused by the trailing edge shock wave, and tunnel blocking at high model incidence. The tests have provided some new hypersonic experimental data under conditions where both strong viscous interaction and incidence effects are important. (Author).

Book Separation of Flow

Download or read book Separation of Flow written by Paul K. Chang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interdisciplinary and Advanced Topics in Science and Engineering, Volume 3: Separation of Flow presents the problem of the separation of fluid flow. This book provides information covering the fields of basic physical processes, analyses, and experiments concerning flow separation. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the flow separation on the body surface as discusses in various classical examples. This text then examines the analytical and experimental results of the laminar boundary layer of steady, two-dimensional flows in the subsonic speed range. Other chapters consider the study of flow separation on the two-dimensional body, flow separation on three-dimensional body shape and particularly on bodies of revolution. This book discusses as well the analytical solutions of the unsteady flow separation. The final chapter deals with the purpose of separation flow control to raise efficiency or to enhance the performance of vehicles and fluid machineries involving various engineering applications. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.
