Book An Experimental and Theoretical Study on Two Phase Flow Through Porous Media of Tight Gas Reservoir

Download or read book An Experimental and Theoretical Study on Two Phase Flow Through Porous Media of Tight Gas Reservoir written by H. Arastoopour and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under Task 1, a history match for gas and water production from Travis Peak formation using our numerical simulator was performed. Our sensitivity analysis on the flow and reservoir parameters showed that relative and absolute permeability and/or interfacial forces between gas, water and the porous medium are very sensitive parameters in the prediction of gas and water production from gas reservoirs. Capillary pressure and porosity have secondary effects on gas and water production. Futhermore, the location and distribution of the fractures and aquifers and whether or not they are connected to the production zone have significant effect on gas and water production. A physical model was designed, constructed and used to measure two phase flow through tight sand porous media. A high level of accuracy in very low flow measurements is achieved by using a proportioning mercury pump system and two kinds of coreholders, Hassler type and one in which the core sample is encapsulted in layers of epoxy resin and metal alloy. Using Darcy's Law as a tool for the analysis, we obtained the gas and liquid permeability and capillary pressure for SFE no. 3 core sample at different pressure, overburden pressure and flow rate. The initial analysis using our non-Darcy equations showed importance and reliability of the formulation for estimation of permeability.

Book excerpt: Under Task 1, a history match for gas and water production from Travis Peak formation using our numerical simulator was performed. Our sensitivity analysis on the flow and reservoir parameters showed that interfacial forces between gas, water and the porous medium are very sensitive parameters in the prediction of gas and water from gas reservoirs. A physical model with a high level of accuracy in very low flow measurements and two kinds of coreholders was constructed. Based on our petrographic measurements, three categories of tight sands were identified: grain supported pores, slot and solution pores, and matrix supported grains. Gas, liquid and two-phase flow rate data through grain supported pores, and slot and solution pore types of tight sand samples were taken at different overburden pressures and pressure drops. The data were analyzed using non-Darcy equations and the permeability and flow parameters were calculated. A surface capillary pressure between gas and water in the entrance to core samples and inside fractures was discovered. Three two-phase flow regimes were identified. For the first time in the literature, imbibition runs were conducted for tight sand samples. Because several days of time are required for steady state data, a reliable procedure for taking transient data was developed. The transient data will save us a significant amount of time and expense.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by W. H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 24 (thesis year 1979) a total of 10,033 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 215 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 24 reports these submitted in 1979, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Development of Unconventional Reservoirs

Download or read book Development of Unconventional Reservoirs written by Reza Rezaee and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-04-16 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for energy is increasing and but the production from conventional reservoirs is declining quickly. This requires an economically and technically feasible source of energy for the coming years. Among some alternative future energy solutions, the most reasonable source is from unconventional reservoirs. As the name “unconventional” implies, different and challenging approaches are required to characterize and develop these resources. This Special Issue covers some of the technical challenges for developing unconventional energy sources from shale gas/oil, tight gas sand, and coalbed methane.

Book Physics of Fluid Flow and Transport in Unconventional Reservoir Rocks

Download or read book Physics of Fluid Flow and Transport in Unconventional Reservoir Rocks written by Behzad Ghanbarian and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-06-07 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding and predicting fluid flow in hydrocarbon shale and other non-conventional reservoir rocks Oil and natural gas reservoirs found in shale and other tight and ultra-tight porous rocks have become increasingly important sources of energy in both North America and East Asia. As a result, extensive research in recent decades has focused on the mechanisms of fluid transfer within these reservoirs, which have complex pore networks at multiple scales. Continued research into these important energy sources requires detailed knowledge of the emerging theoretical and computational developments in this field. Following a multidisciplinary approach that combines research in engineering, geosciences and rock physics, Physics of Fluid Flow and Transport in Unconventional Reservoir Rocks provides both academic and industrial readers with a thorough grounding in this cutting-edge area of rock geology, combining an explanation of the underlying theories and models with practical applications in the field. Readers will also find: An introduction to the digital modeling of rocks Detailed treatment of digital rock physics, including decline curve analysis and non-Darcy flow Solutions for difficult-to-acquire measurements of key petrophysical characteristics such as shale wettability, effective permeability, stress sensitivity, and sweet spots Physics of Fluid Flow and Transport in Unconventional Reservoir Rocks is a fundamental resource for academic and industrial researchers in hydrocarbon exploration, fluid flow, and rock physics, as well as professionals in related fields.

Book Advances in Fluid Solid Coupling Processes between Fractures and Porous Rocks Experimental and Numerical Investigation

Download or read book Advances in Fluid Solid Coupling Processes between Fractures and Porous Rocks Experimental and Numerical Investigation written by Shiming Wei and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydraulic fracturing is the key measure for improving recovery of unconventional oil and gas reservoirs. Prediction of fracture morphology and productivity after fracturing is critical for fracturing design and optimization. The hydraulic fracturing process is to open porous rocks by artificially injecting highly compressed fluid, and the hydraulic fracture will be closed under the compaction of in-situ stress during the production process. In this regard, hydraulic fracturing and production processes are both fluid-solid coupling processes involving fractures and porous rocks. This Research Topic aims to gather the latest studies addressing how to improve the prediction accuracy of hydraulic fracturing morphology and post-fracturing productivity through experimental and numerical investigation. The experimental research shall underline hydraulic fracturing and fracture conductivity experiments and associated experimental methods, while the numerical research shall pay particular attention to discrete fracture network models, including the calculation efficiency and accuracy as well as the applicability.
