Book Applied Remote Sensing for Urban Planning Governance and Sustainability

Download or read book Applied Remote Sensing for Urban Planning Governance and Sustainability written by Maik Netzband and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-10 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This evaluation of the potential of remote sensing of urban areas helps to close a gap between the research-focused results offered by the "urban remote sensing" community, and the application of these data and products by the governing bodies of cities and urban regions. The authors present data from six urban regions worldwide. They explain what the important questions are, and how data and scientific skills can help answer them.

Book Analysis Of Multi temporal Remote Sensing Images Proceedings Of The Second International Workshop On The Multitemp 2003

Download or read book Analysis Of Multi temporal Remote Sensing Images Proceedings Of The Second International Workshop On The Multitemp 2003 written by Paul C Smits and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004-08-10 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of effective methodologies for the analysis of multi-temporal data is one of the most important and challenging issues that the remote sensing community will face in the coming years. Its importance and timeliness are directly related to the ever-increasing quantity of multi-temporal data provided by the numerous remote sensing satellites that orbit our planet. The synergistic use of multi-temporal remote sensing data and advanced analysis methodologies results in the possibility of solving complex problems related to the monitoring of the Earth's surface and atmosphere at different scales. However, the advances in the methodologies for the analysis of multi-temporal data have been significantly under-illuminated with respect to other remote sensing data analysis topics. In addition, the link between the end-users' needs and the scientific community needs to be strengthened. This volume of proceedings contains 43 contributions from researchers representing academia, industry and governmental organizations. It is organized into three thematic sections: Image Analysis and Algorithms; Analysis of Synthetic Aperture Radar Data; Monitoring and Management of Resources.

Book Livelihood and Wellbeing in the Urban Fringe

Download or read book Livelihood and Wellbeing in the Urban Fringe written by Nasrin Banu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-25 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a detailed study on Aligarh’s urban fringe, focusing on the livelihood of the villagers who have lived there for generations, and on that of the migrants residing in the villages. As a Class-I city, located in the most populated state (Uttar Pradesh) of India, Aligarh has gained in importance due to its proximity to the national capital (New Delhi) and Uttar Pradesh’s industrial cities (Kanpur and Ghaziabad). The 2011 census showed that of the total population of the district, 33.1 per cent was urban (872,575 residents). Projections by the Town and Country Planning Department suggest that the city will have some 1.2 million inhabitants and there will be a need for another 64,000 houses. Thus, the city will expand extensively into its urban fringe, which is expected to entail large-scale transformations. The expansion of the city will significantly influence nearby villages in terms of land use and population, both physically and socio-economically.
