Book excerpt: WHY SHOULD YOU READ A GREEK HISTORY? Because you simply cannot consider yourself an educated person unless you know something about the society of ancient Greece. Because the Greeks discovered the foundation elements of Western society: constitutionalism, rationalism, humanism and the individual. Because Greek history is in effect our own history. Because the Greeks were seriously cool. WHY SHOULD YOU READ THISGREEK HISTORY? Because it answers the important questions that others do not. Because it relates Greek history to contemporary society. Because it covers ALL the topics. Because it is NOT boring or politically correct.
Download or read book Skiing the New Way written by Duncan Reid and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-11-26 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ideas for the back cover of my book Skiing the New Way Fred Pease, a former prominent ski coach, after teaching him the new Outback turn, which is now featured in this revision, told me this new turn has made the most significant impact on my skiing in many, many a year. Ron Kipp, Director of Athlete Preparation for the USST, said: "The Reids relay through their love of skiing and teaching a technique based on what works not what ought to work. This book is worthwhile reading for the Week-end Skier as well as the World Cup Ski Coach." To paraphrase Henry Bendinelli, Director of the Skikats Ski Club: Our week-long trip was an ideal "laboratory" to test your technique for 26 skiers of widely differing abilities. It was resoundingly obvious that they ended up skiing beautifully, much better than they had ever skied in their lives. Then, from the recreational students: Bill Rice said: Ski classes had never clicked like this before-even though I had begun skiing with the best Austrian instructors some thirty-eight years ago and had taken hundreds of lessons since. Tom Humphrey said: The continuing evolution of various techniques has added bits of pleasure along the way but none has been so Soul-Satisfying as the SWEET SCHWOOSHING SKI STYLE of Duncan and Betty Reid. What a gift! What a Godsend! Who would have believed that, at my age, I could become a better skier than I ever was in the heyday of my youth. Yet, I am. What a pleasure! Jo-Ann said, "I feel I have so much better control of my skis I just start skiing much faster. No longer do my friends have to wait for me as I go schwooshing by.
Download or read book Articulated Ladies written by Paul Rouzer and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-10-26 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume analyzes the representation of gender and desire in elite, male-authored literary texts in China dating from roughly 200 B.C. until 1000 A.D. Above all, it discusses the intimate relationship between the representation of gender and the political and social self-representations of elite men and shows where gender and social hierarchies cross paths. Paul Rouzer argues that when male authors articulated themselves as women, the resulting articulation was inevitably influenced by this act of identification. Articulated women are always located within a non-existent liminal space between ostensible object and ostensible subject, a focus of textual desire both through possession and through identification. Nor, in male-authored texts, is this articulation ever fully resolved--the potential of multiple interpretations is continually present.

This book is a compilation of project design knowledge based on Fumio Kajiwara (architect/designer/chairman of UDS Ltd.) and his years of experience leading various renowned spatial design projects in Asia. His know-hows are outlined by Takashi Iba (Professor at Keio University) using the "pattern language" method, a way of organizing/sharing practical knowledge. This book is the first case in which the pattern language method, originally invented by architect Christopher Alexander, is used in the context of project design. Through this collaboration, "Project Design Patterns" provides approachable but profound hints that help demystify the difficulty of carrying out innovative projects.

Download or read book Dark Side of the Moon written by Roy Maloy and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-12-11 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the most unique authors in the world today, Roy Maloy is an iconic circus artist, impresario and author. The Dark Side of the Moon is a fascinating journey through the lives and cultures of the many individuals who each played a role in the shaping and growing of the Western Australian Luna Park. Often laced with underhanded and shady characters, the biography of Luna Park's Impresarios includes a number of fascinating crimes committed, conspiracies, cover ups, pistols shot, fist fights, jail sentences, fraud and infidelity in grand proportions. To many, the Luna Parks that were erected on Cottesloe Beach in 1928, and later on Scarborough Beach from 1939-1976 were a place of family fun, and magic. But for others, the sordid activities of gambling, prize fights and paying grafts to security guards all come together in and around the operations of Western Australia's Luna Parks, resulting in their demise in the late 1970s.

Next I present the findings about the Sunday liturgies in 100 churches, 50 in Guatemala and 50 the U.S. The following chapter analyzes 100 Sunday homilies in comparison to lay talks, homilies by Fr. Robert Barron, and evangelical sermons. In one more chapter I discuss basic concepts for pastoral research. Chapter 6 discusses the consequences of papal centralization for church renewal. The last chapter outlines ten basic paths of renewal. What is new in this book is the research on Sunday liturgies, homilies, and pastoral concepts.
