Book excerpt: When we think of “leadership” today, we have too many examples of the type of leadership the Pharisees practiced, and few examples of the type of leadership Paul explains in 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12. With a careful exegesis and practical application, this book will help you know what kind of character a leader needs. Some of those characteristics are courage, compassion, and integrity. Book Leadership in Christian Perspective

Download or read book Leadership in Christian Perspective written by Justin A. Irving and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2019-06-18 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings the best of leadership theory and research together with biblical reflection and examples of leadership in action to offer a practical guide to Christian leaders. Combining expertise in leadership studies and biblical studies, Justin Irving and Mark Strauss explore how leadership models have moved from autocratic and paternalistic leader-centered models toward an increased focus on followers. The authors show how contemporary theories such as transformational leadership, authentic leadership, and servant leadership take an important step toward prioritizing and empowering followers who work with leaders to accomplish organizational goals. Irving and Strauss organize their book around "nine empowering practices," making it accessible to students, church leaders, and business leaders. Integrating solid research in leadership studies with biblical and theological reflection on the leadership ideas that are most compatible with Christian faith, this book is an important resource for all Christian students of leadership.

Book Biblical Servant Leadership

Download or read book Biblical Servant Leadership written by Steven Crowther and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-13 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the concepts from Scripture for Servant leadership and compare these findings with contemporary models of servant leadership. It is an examination of Christian leadership for the contemporary world in its global and increasing secular context. Leadership studies typically view leadership externally from the results. This is a good beginning but leadership needs to also view the inside of leadership in the person of the leader. Scripture is uniquely qualified in this area since its first concern is the person who leads not just in leadership behaviors. The author uses examples from both the Old and New Testament to establish a new shepherd model of leadership that moves beyond the servant mode to the mode of caring direction. This model will provide scholars and researchers as well as leaders themselves with a way of leading that overcomes negative forms of leadership which lead to failure.

Each chapter contains helpful questions for reflection and discussion. The appendix includes numerous audits to help readers evaluate themselves on various leadership components. Being Leaders is the first book of a two-part series on leadership. The companion book will address the how-to of building leaders.

Download or read book Leadership by the Book written by Floyd R. Antonio and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-06-10 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This effort is a study of the relevance of Biblical leadership principles to modern times. The primary reason for undertaking this endeavor has to do with whether or not scriptural leadership tenets are relevant or appropriate for contemporary application. This undertaking is done against the conviction that properly applied principles should always prove workable. Floyd is specifically seeking therefore, to discover the extent to which such Bible-based concepts may be applicable to both Christian and non-Christian leadership settings. His investigation also seeks to ascertain the extent to which a scholarly evaluation of Biblical leadership principles may positively impact actual practice in today's world. A most important motivation of this endeavor has to do with the fact that there is a serious leadership crisis in both the secular world and the Christian church. This reality necessitates the suggestion that man needs to look beyond himself in order to find workable precepts for leadership. A fundamental significance of this undertaking is that it will afford readers the opportunity to correct the seemingly widespread misconception that the leadership principles of the Bible have outgrown their relevance or usefulness. Readers will also learn more about guarding ourselves against the disappointments and other negative consequences of a subscription to leadership that is not scripturally based. Also, Christians will learn that the book on which their faith is founded has real and workable leadership principles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does the Bible really say about gender, the ethics of submission, and male-female roles? In this book, well-regarded theologian Alan Padgett offers a fresh approach to the debate. Through his careful interpretation of Paul's letters and broader New Testament teaching, the author shows how Christ's submission to the church models an appropriate understanding of gender roles and servant leadership. As Christ submits to the church, so all Christians must submit to, serve, and care for one another. Padgett articulates a creative approach to mutual submission and explores its practical outworking in the church today, providing biblical and ethical affirmation for equality in leadership.

Book Spiritual Leadership Today

Download or read book Spiritual Leadership Today written by Mel Lawrenz and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If you are in a position of positive influence, if you exercise leadership in any way, your faith in God gives you a power—a hidden power—that will allow you to make an enduring difference in the lives of other people and organizations. But how does that power work?" So says Mel Lawrenz in this fresh look at leadership which offers practical and biblical guidance to believers who want to have a deep influence and who want to know: What is the proper use of authority and power? Where do good ideas come from? How can we deal with failure? What does God expect of us? Drawing from more than thirty years of experience in pastoral ministry, Lawrenz writes for Christians in any position of influence. This book provides a new baseline for 21st century Christian leadership, addressing issues such as: • building integrity • seizing opportunities • exploring new horizons • speaking into crises • receiving power • accepting authority • promoting truth • managing expectations • dealing with criticism Using real-life examples, key Scripture passages, and history, Lawrenz shows that when believers align their responsibility to lead with the teaching of Jesus and the work of God’s Spirit, their spiritual influence will have integrity and enduring effectiveness. "Lawrenz gives us hope that the leadership pendulum which has swung from 'over- spiritualized' to 'de-spiritualized' in recent generations may have finally come to rest where it always belonged—upon Jesus Christ." - Skye Jethani, Senior Editor, Leadership Journal, from the foreword "It is exciting to think about believers at every level of society rising to a new call to exercise powerful spiritual influence. In his newest book Mel Lawrenz has given us all a new baseline for leadership that is personal, wise, and spiritual. It spans the generations and reaches across cultures. Just think what will happen if believers in positions of influence tie into the wisdom and the power that comes from God in order to bring restoration in our broken world!” - Mark Batterson, Lead Pastor, National Community Church in Washington, D.C.

Book excerpt: As the body of Christ, the church is basically an organism, not an organization. This fact is full of implications for the way the church organizes itself and the way leadership functions in the church. No book on church leadership has become as controversial as this one. Nor is there a book that spells out so clearly the scriptural implications of the present rule of Christ in the church and the calling of church leaders to be, first of all, servants. This is must reading for pastors, elders, church staff members, and students preparing for ministry in the church.

Book A Pauline Theology of Church Leadership

Download or read book A Pauline Theology of Church Leadership written by Andrew D. Clarke and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2008-01-29 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholarly studies consider Paul's views on leadership tend to fall into one of three camps: 1) the historical development view, which in large measure identifies developments in church practice with developments in Pauline and deutero-Pauline ecclesiology; 2) the synchronic, historical reconstruction, typically making use of Graeco-Roman, social context sources, or social-scientific modelling, focusing on a single congregation, and sometimes distinguishing between the situation to which Paul was responding and the pattern he sought to impose; and 3) the theological/hermeneutical analysis, identifying Paul's particular approach to power and authority, often independently of any detailed reconstruction of the situations to which Paul was responding. Andrew Clarke has explored in an earlier work, Serve the Community of the Church (Eerdmans, 2000), the distinctive, local and historical situations in the various Pauline communities and concluded that there is no evidence that they organised themselves according to a common set of governmental structures which clearly developed with the passage of time. Rather each community was influenced by its own localized, social and cultural context. The present project builds on this, and necessarily focuses on leadership style rather than church order. It seeks to recover from Paul's critical responses, his generic ethos of church leadership, including the ideal qualities, characteristics and task of leaders and the nature of appropriate interaction and engagement with church members. In the light of current, theoretical discussions about power and gender, the study focuses particularly on Paul's attitude towards hierarchy, egalitarianism, authority, responsibility and privilege.

Book Biblical Leadership

  • Author : Ken Collier
  • Publisher : Ambassador International
  • Release : 2015-06-03
  • ISBN : 1620204614
  • Pages : 134 pages

Download or read book Biblical Leadership written by Ken Collier and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2015-06-03 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many different types of leaders--leaders in the business world, in government, in the home, and in the local church. Sadly, many times leadership has been completely contrary to what the Bible teaches. Many leaders are focused on what they can get from their positions of authority rather than on what they can give to the works in which they are involved. While some view it as a tool for popularity and power, leadership is a privilege. Leadership requires responsibility. We need biblical leaders who are people of integrity and humility--leaders who are willing to be different.
