Book Influence of Kinematics of Nickel Titanium Instruments on Root Canal Preparations of Dental Students A Micro CT Evaluation

Download or read book Influence of Kinematics of Nickel Titanium Instruments on Root Canal Preparations of Dental Students A Micro CT Evaluation written by Akshay Keerthy and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction:One of the most important steps in endodontic treatment includes the shaping and instrumentation of the root canal system. If not done properly, it may lead to errors including canal transportations and uncentered preparations. Over the last decades, nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments have enhanced the quality of root canal shaping for clinicians. Currently, two common NiTi rotary instruments, WaveOne Gold and ProTaper Gold, function by two different forms of kinematics: a reciprocating and rotating movement respectively. Currently, preclinical curricula in dental schools do not have a standardized rotary file in which dental students are introduced into endodontics with. This study looks at the use of these two rotary systems by novice sophomore dental students on the quality of their root canal preparations. Purpose: This study aims to examine the influence of kinematics of nickel-titanium instruments (reciprocation vs rotation) on the shaping ability, canal transportation and centering ratio, of novice pre-doctoral sophomore dental students and their preference after its use. Materials and Methods: Forty two identical pre-accessed mandibular left first molar 3-dimensional printed replicas' mesial canals (TrueTeeth; PlanBDental) were instrumented by 21 novice pre-doctoral sophomore dental students. Each canal was previously hand instrumented to a size #15 K file by a single provider. The students were recruited using a random number generator. The teeth were divided up into 2 groups for each rotary file system being used: ProTaper Gold (PTG) (n=21) and WaveOne Gold (WOG) (n=21). Each student instrumented both the mesiobuccal (MB) and mesiolingual canals (ML) using each system. The total instrumentation time was recorded. Micro-computed tomography was used to scan the teeth before and after instrumentation. Centering ratios and canal transportation were calculated at the apical, middle and coronal levels. A questionnaire was completed after instrumentation regarding students' perception with a 5-point Likert scale: ease of use, flexibility, cutting efficiency, screwing effect and overall impression. Conclusion: Compared to a rotation NiTi file system, reciprocation NiTi file system was preferred by novice sophomore dental students, and it also showed less canal transportation and better centering ability with shorter instrumentation times. Future studies are still needed in order to assess if there are further advantages to training novice dental students with reciprocating rotary systems when learning endodontics, but this study can serve as a framework to answer the question.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary files to endodontics almost two decades ago has changed the way root canal preparations are performed, enabling more complicated root canal systems to be shaped with fewer procedural errors. Currently, a number of rotary Ni-Ti systems are available but it is difficult for dentist to decide which one is better. This book gives a detailed knowledge of various parameters, to evaluate which rotary system has superior shaping ability of the root canals as compared to other. Keeping in view the importance of parameters, each parameter has been described in details i.e. how to measure it and its significance. It also highlights the comparison of shaping ability of root canals with two rotary systems with different designs and their outcome with reasoning

Book Shaping for Cleaning the Root Canals

Download or read book Shaping for Cleaning the Root Canals written by Gustavo De Deus and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-25 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides clinicians with up-to-date, scientifically based guidance on the most important stages of endodontic treatment, i.e., cleaning and shaping of the root canal space, including mechanical preparation and chemical disinfection. Five internationally recognized experts present and discuss recent developments and new perspectives in the field. Important advances in root canal preparation and irrigation procedures are described with the aid of numerous high-quality illustrations. A key feature of the book is the detailed attention devoted to the latest research findings and to their impact on contemporary evidence-based clinical guidelines and modern clinical practice. On this basis, simple treatment protocols are proposed that take the anatomy of the root canals fully into account. In addition, emerging problems and trends are considered. The book will be an excellent resource for clinicians and advanced practitioners who are seeking to update their practice.

Book Shaping and Cleaning the Root Canals

Download or read book Shaping and Cleaning the Root Canals written by Gianluca Plotino and published by Edizioni LSWR. This book was released on 2023-07-18T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is the result of around 20 years of clinical and scientific work of the Authors. The goals of root canal shaping through the evolution of the principles of biomechanical instrumentation are discussed at the begging of the book, followed by the evolution of nickel-titanium instruments. Then the Authors describe the different stages of canal preparation, the cleaning and debridement of the root canal system. This topic is particularly important since mechanical instrumentation alone is currently unable to fully decontaminate the endodontic space, a very complex system when analysed three-dimensionally; in fact the mechanical instruments cannot contact all the surface of the root canal walls even in some areas of the main canal, that are more likely reached through the chemical action of specific irrigation solutions. Thanks to the skillful combination of the text with high-quality iconography, Shaping and Cleaning the Root Canals represents a great tool for all clinicians

Book Fracture Length of Rotary Ni Ti Files Used in Curved Roots of Molars

Download or read book Fracture Length of Rotary Ni Ti Files Used in Curved Roots of Molars written by Pardeep Khurana and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nickel Titanium alloy was developed in 1963 by Bhuler et al.The ability of Nickel-Titanium to undergo extensive deformation resulting from a stress assisted phase transformation, with the reverse transformation occurring on unloading is called Super elasticity.Ni-Ti files also have ability to revert back to its original straight form without any sign of lasting deformation, this property is called 'Shape memory'. Nevertheless, without any prior notice, a fracture can occur suddenly. Fracture of Ni-Ti files is main concern regarding there clinical use. Fracture of rotary instruments takes place in two different ways, due to torsion or ductility and due to cyclic fatigue through flexure.Ni-Ti rotary files causes small but consistent change in working length. There are number of factors associated with distortion and fracture of rotary Ni-Ti including speed of rotation, angle and radius of curvature of root. This aim of research in this book is evaluation of breakage, distortion and loss of working length in curved root canals by using different Nickel-Titanium rotary endodontic instruments.
