This songbook may also be used in an educational and musical context, as it allows discovery, or rediscovery in some cases, of the Russian language. It is intended that these translations be sung (karaoke style) while playing and listening to the recording of the Russian song and at the same time singing the translated English words from this songbook. Listening to Russian words while singing the English words is the educational interaction referred to in the paragraph above. For teachers and students of both Russian and English languages, singing a Russian song in Russian and straight after in English would help to compare and contrast that song during discussion. A public performance of the same song sung in both Russian and English would help to preserve its original Russian sentiment and also interpret the song. These singing translations are just as essential to audiences, as the English subtitles in Russian motion pictures are to cinema goers. Ivan Renatovich

Download or read book The Russian Song Books Vol 1 written by Rosa Newmarch and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-05 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Russian Song Books, Vol. 1: A Selection of Songs From the Works of Russian Composers, Old and New, Edited and Translated Into English; Songs for a Soprano Voice The Russian Song Books do not claim to consist wholly of gems Of classical music, nor yet of that class of lyric known in England as the popular ballad. An attempt is here made to combine both elements, and to cater for varied tastes and interpretative capacities. Examples by leaders Of the Russian School are included in the series, and also a few songs by minor composers which are great favourites in their own country. In each case the words have been translated direct from the Russian, and represent an effort to echo as faithfully as possible the sense and sentiment of the original texts. The, following details respecting the composers Of these songs, treated in alphabetical order, may be of interest to singers. Book Russian and American Poetry of Experiment

Download or read book Russian and American Poetry of Experiment written by Vladimir Feshchenko and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-07-17 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experiment with language. Is it an object cultivated in poetic laboratories where entry is locked for mere mortals? And what do language scholars think about it? Specialists in language and literature studies interested in linguistic innovation and experimental poetry will find answers to these questions in Vladimir Feshchenko’s book. The study investigates various strategies of radical linguistic creativity in Russian and American experimental writing of the 20th century and explores cases of contemporary ‘language-oriented’ and ‘trans-language’ poetry. It is a comparative examination of two national avant-garde cultures, but also a juxtaposition of the relationships that Russian and American avant-garde poetics had with linguistic ideas of their times. The monograph may serve as a wonderful introduction to the entire field of ‘linguistic poetics of the avant-garde’.

Download or read book Global Russian Cultures written by Kevin M. F. Platt and published by University of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there an essential Russian identity? What happens when "Russian" literature is written in English, by such authors as Gary Shteyngart or Lara Vapnyar? What is the geographic "home" of Russian culture created and shared via the internet? Global Russian Cultures innovatively considers these and many related questions about the literary and cultural life of Russians who in successive waves of migration have dispersed to the United States, Europe, and Israel, or who remained after the collapse of the USSR in Ukraine, the Baltic states, and the Central Asian states. The volume's internationally renowned contributors treat the many different global Russian cultures not as "displaced" elements of Russian cultural life but rather as independent entities in their own right. They describe diverse forms of literature, music, film, and everyday life that transcend and defy political, geographic, and even linguistic borders. Arguing that Russian cultures today are many, this volume contends that no state or society can lay claim to be the single or authentic representative of Russianness. In so doing, it contests the conceptions of culture and identity at the root of nation-building projects in and around Russia.

Book Deduka a tale of one mind and two times

Download or read book Deduka a tale of one mind and two times written by Anna Scola and published by Writers Republic LLC. This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My grandfather grew up in a small Russian village, before moving to Moscow to become a linguist and journalist. He was posted to Singapore in 1971 as a Chinese-speaking journalist to help establish Soviet-Singapore relations. Coming as an expatriate, but leaving as a local through humble explorations of the young nation-state, my grandfather truly fell in love with Singapore. Two generations later, I grow up between Russia and Singapore, living a parallel life to the one of my grandfather's. I write about my own experiences as the mirror image I am of him, despite the years apart. Deduka is a photo essay narrating a friendship between my grandfather and me as we oscillate between our two homes. Separated by forty years of urban development, yet connected by our artistic dispositions, we witness this life through art and poetry.
