Book An Analytical and Numerical Modeling of Radiation Heat Transfer in Combustor Having Jet Flames

Download or read book An Analytical and Numerical Modeling of Radiation Heat Transfer in Combustor Having Jet Flames written by K. T. Rhee and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new computational method is introduced for radiation heat transfer analysis in combustion chambers containing jet flame plumes. The governing equation of radiation heat flux incident over the surface of the combustor is analytically derived. The governing equation is solved numerically by using the Gaussian integration method. The methodology has been applied to diesel combustion in such a way that the effect of various engine parameters on its radiation heat transfer is evaluated.

Book Modelling Diesel Combustion

Download or read book Modelling Diesel Combustion written by P. A. Lakshminarayanan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-21 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively discusses diesel combustion phenomena like ignition delay, fuel-air mixing, rate of heat release, and emissions of smoke, particulate and nitric oxide. It enables quantitative evaluation of these important phenomena and parameters. Most importantly, it attempts to model them with constants that are independent of engine types and hence they could be applied by the engineers and researchers for a general engine. This book emphasizes the importance of the spray at the wall in precisely describing the heat release and emissions for most of the engines on and off-road. It gives models for heat release and emissions. Every model is thoroughly validated by detailed experiments using a broad range of engines. The book describes an elegant quasi-one-dimensional model for heat release in diesel engines with single as well as multiple injections. The book describes how the two aspects, namely, fuel injection rate and the diameter of the combustion bowl in the piston, have enabled meeting advanced emission, noise, and performance standards. The book also discusses the topics of computational fluid dynamics encompassing RANS and LES models of turbulence. Given the contents, this book will be useful for students, researchers and professionals working in the area of vehicle engineering and engine technology. This book will also be a good professional book for practising engineers in the field of combustion engines and automotive engineering.

Book Relationship of In Cylinder Gaseous and Particulate Concentration to Radiative Heat Transfer in Direct Injection Type Diesel Combustion

Download or read book Relationship of In Cylinder Gaseous and Particulate Concentration to Radiative Heat Transfer in Direct Injection Type Diesel Combustion written by K. T. Rhee and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the reported research was to investigate the relationship of radiation heat transfer to the in-cylinder species distribution in direct injection-type diesel engine combustion. In order to implement this objective, both the experimental and computational methods were employed during the course of the study. In the experiment, in order to obtain the in-cylinder species distribution at successive engine crank angles, a rapid sampling valve has been used on a laboratory-built single cylinder direct injection-type diesel engine. The engine for the data acquisiton was constructed basically by combining a reciprocating system of an ASTM gasoline engine and a newly constructed engine cylinder head. We encountered a series of problems in the engine requiring replacement of engine components. At the end, the engine was regarded unable to meet the need of operating for an extended period of time for data gathering. Consequently, it was decided to use a new single cylinder engine. In the computational work, a radiation heat transfer model was developed to predict spectral radiation heat transfer through the engine combustion chamber wall for given in-cylinder species distributions. The discovery of a new integral function, a new exact solution of blackbody functions, a new empirical equation of adiabatic flame temperature of fuel/air systems, an analytical solution of equation of radiation functions, a parametric analysis of diesel radiation heat transfer, etc. are reported.

Book A Thermodynamic System Analysis Model of a Diesel Engine

Download or read book A Thermodynamic System Analysis Model of a Diesel Engine written by K. T. Rhee and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thermodynamic system model of a direct injection-type diesel engine has been developed. The objective of the modeling was to enable predictions of the instantaneous temperature distribution along and into the combustion chamber of a diesel engine. The present model has a main emphasis on the heat transfer computation with inclusion of new submodels of conduction, radiation heat transfer of the engine, plus engine energy conversion processes. The development of submodels of space-resolved heat release and species distribution in the global model was not possible during the period of the present contract (01 August, 1984 - 31 July, 1985). Consequently, some assumptions were employed for replacing the said submodels in the selected sample computations based on some of the reported results on heat release and heat transfer rates made available in literature. Some results obtained from the present computational study are included in the report and the usefulness of the new computer program for the actual engine design is suggested herein. In addition, recommendation for improvement of the present computational model is included. Keywords: Pistons; Finite element analysis; Three dimensional heat transfer; HEATRAN computer program; FORTRAN. (Author).

Book Heat and Mass Transfer in Gasoline and Diesel Engines

Download or read book Heat and Mass Transfer in Gasoline and Diesel Engines written by Dudley Brian Spalding and published by Core/Mechanical. This book was released on 1989 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The editors explain that the classical formulae and techniques for predicting heat flow do not apply to the unique conditions found in reciprocating engines. They warn the reader--presumed to be aspiring designers of more efficient and less polluting engines--that although these papers, from every country where engineering is practiced, contain nearly all the available knowledge on the subject, no definitive answers emerge, no breakthroughs loom around the next equation. The topics include the transfer of engine heat and of external heat, numerical flow simulation, applications and devices, ignition and quenching, and measurement techniques. Book An Analytical Method of Non Gray Three Dimensional Radiation Heat Transfer in Spray Combustion

Download or read book An Analytical Method of Non Gray Three Dimensional Radiation Heat Transfer in Spray Combustion written by S. L. Chang and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computational study of radiation heat transfer in a combustor having fuel spray combustion is reported in the present paper. When the distribution of radiatively participating species is known in either a normal distribution or an exponential distribution in any direction of cylindrical coordinates with respect to a referenced location, e.g., in a form, F = fexp, where f, a, b, and c are distribution constants for individual species, the governing equation of radiation heat transfer without scattering in such a system can be solved with relative ease by using the herein reported method. Several results from the present author's work are explained that are employed for implementing the solution: a new coordinate transformation method to find the species distribution along individual optical paths centered at any chosen location in the combustor; a new formula for the adiabatic flame temperature in a logarithmic function facilitating solutions for various radiation equations; a new inverse error function enabling some exact solution of the governing equation of radiation heat transfer, etc. Keywords: Analytical Solution, 3 D Radiation, Computation, Optically Thin, Optically Thick, Species Distribution, Blackbody Radiation Function, Inverse Error Function, Combustors, Fuels, Fuel spray.

Book Heat Transfer in Radiating and Combusting Systems

Download or read book Heat Transfer in Radiating and Combusting Systems written by Maria G. Carvalho and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the selected papers presented at the EUROTHERM SEMINAR No. 17 - Heat Transfer in Radiating and Combusting Systems held at Cascais from October 8th- 10th, 1990. The EUROTHERM COMMITTEE was created by representatives of the member countries of the European Communities for the organization and coordination of European Scientific events in the field of thermal sciences and their applications. The book is focused on the integration of the heat transfer and combustion. These two subjects have traditionally been considered separate disciplines. In reality, the two are closely interwoven. The central purpose of the book is to generate an effective cross fertilisation of the two at both the fundamental and applied levels. The book reports on: mathematical simulations of heat transfer in reacting systems, new measurements of and measurement techniques for the radiation properties of the intervening medium, and data and theoretical analyses which clarify the physical nature of the complex interactions between the radiation/convection heat transfer processes and the combustion and turbulence of real reacting flows.
