Book Final Salute

Download or read book Final Salute written by Jim Sheeler and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2008 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on his Pulitzer Prize-winning story, Jim Sheeler's unprecedented look at the way our country honors its dead; Final SaluteIs a stunning tribute to the brave troops who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan and to the families who continue to mourn them They are the troops that nobody wants to see, carrying a message that no military family ever wants to hear. It begins with a knock at the door. "The curtains pull away. They come to the door. And they know. They always know," said Major Steve Beck. Since the start of the war in Iraq, marines like Major Beck found themselves thrown into a different kind of mission: casualty notification. It is a job Major Beck never asked for and one for which he received no training. They are given no set rules, only impersonal guidelines. Marines are trained to kill, to break down doors, but casualty notification is a mission without weapons. For Beck, the mission meant learning each dead marine's name and nickname, touching the toys they grew up with and reading the letters they wrote home. He held grieving mothers in long embraces, absorbing their muffled cries into the dark blue shoulder of his uniform. He stitched himself into the fabric of their lives, in the simple hope that his compassion might help alleviate at least the smallest piece of their pain. Sometimes he returned home to his own family unable to keep from crying in the dark. In Final Salute, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jim Sheeler weaves together the stories of the fallen and of the broken homes they have left behind. It is also the story of Major Steve Beck and his unflagging efforts to help heal the wounds of those left grieving. Above all, it is a moving tribute to our troops, putting faces to the mostly anonymous names of our courageous heroes, and to the brave families who have made the ultimate sacrifice for this country. Final Saluteis the achingly beautiful, devastatingly honest story of the true toll of war. After the knock on the door, the story has only begun.

Book excerpt: Lavishly illustrated, Red, Hot & Blue showcases Hollywood and Broadway musical from its immigrant roots in nineteenth-century vaudeville, through its heyday on both the "Great White Way" and the silver screen, to its retrospective role today in such revivals as Show Boat. Its title taken from Cole Porter's 1936 musical, the book spotlights the performers, composers, lyricists, impresarios, choreographers, designers, and directors who collectively reinvented American culture though this most extravagant of twentieth-century art forms. Chronicling the "fine romance" between the audience and its musical icons, the authors portray the personalities who pushed boundaries of style and content to create an increasingly sophisticated melange of story, song, and dance. They show, too, how musicals have evoked two deeply ingrained national impulses: one, a nostalgia for a gentler, rural past, as seen in Oklahoma!, Meet Me in St. Louis, and The Music Man; the other an energetic embrace of the urban landscape, as expressed in On the Town, Guys and Dolls, and West Side Story.

Book To the Last Salute

Download or read book To the Last Salute written by Georg von Trapp and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sound of Music endeared Georg von Trapp (1880?1947) and his singing family to the world, and it also showed how desperately the Nazis wanted Captain von Trapp for their navy. In To the Last Salute we learn why. Trapp?s own story of his exploits as a submarine commander during the First World War is as exciting as it is instructive, bringing to stirring life a little-known chapter in the naval history of that war. In his many guises, Trapp describes life as captain of Austro-Hungarian U-boats in the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas, emerging by turn as the Imperial Austrian naval officer, the witty observer of international politics, and the indefatigable and ultimately heartbroken patriot opposing the Allied enemy. He relates deadly duels with submarine sweepers, narrow escapes and excruciatingly close calls, and the spectacular sinking of cargo and war ships?all while maintaining a keen sense of the camaraderie of seamen from every corner of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Trapp?s story, in English for the first time, offers a rare combination of human interest, historical insight, and true life-and-death adventure.

Book John Paul Jones Memoir of the American Revolution

Download or read book John Paul Jones Memoir of the American Revolution written by John Paul Jones and published by The Minerva Group, Inc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revolutionary career of John Paul Jones, which is the subject of this memoir, needs no elaboration here. His voyages, first on the Alfred under Capt. Dudley Saltonstall, and later at the helm of the sloops Providence, Ranger and Ariel, the old East Indiaman Duras (renamed the Bonhomme Richard), and the American-built frigate Alliance are thoroughly recounted here. What is generally not known, however, is the commodore's post-revolutionary war career. Having made numerous inveterate enemies during the course of the war, both in and out of Congress, Jones had little chance of gaining flag rank in the American navy. Realizing this, he decided in the spring of 1788 to pursue fame in other waters, first in the service of Louis XVI of France and later under Catherine the Great of Russia. France, unfortunately, was in no position to expand its naval staff, but Catherine, who was in need of good officers to fight in the second Russo-Turkish war, offered him an admiral's commission in the Russian navy, and on May 26, 1788, Rear Admiral Jones raised his flag on the Black Sea. Anyone familiar with the life of John Paul Jones, one of America's most popular naval heroes, would agree that in fighting spirit the commodore was perhaps equal to any officer in the history of the United States Navy. Unquestionably, he was deserving of the belated tribute paid to him by President Theodore Roosevelt on April 24, 1906, at the formal reception at Annapolis of the body of Capt. Paul Jones, as the hero was known at the height of his career. President Roosevelt admonished an audience of naval officers and cadets, statesmen and visiting dignitaries: "Every officer in our Navy should know by heart the deeds of John Paul Jones. Every officer in our Navy should feel in each fiber of his being an eager desire to emulate the energy, the professional capacity, the indomitable determination and dauntless scorn of death which marked John Paul Jones above all his fellows."

Book Bernie Sanders Adolf Hitler Joseph Stalin Fidel Castro Other Socialists

Download or read book Bernie Sanders Adolf Hitler Joseph Stalin Fidel Castro Other Socialists written by Jon Robins and published by No Pledge Publishing & The Pointer Institute. This book was released on with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bernie Sanders (BS) self-identifies the same way that Adolf Hitler self-identified: SOCIALIST. In voluminous speeches and writings Hitler glorified the identical word touted by BS as his political philosophy. Hitler’s swastika was “S” letter shaped symbolism for his socialism. BS proudly classifies himself in the same fashion as Hitler and the world’s other genocidal psychopaths. Bernie Sanders was endorsed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) in the 2020 presidential election and AOC actively campaigns for BS. Why does AOC support such an old white male? She promotes him because they share the same extremist dogma. How did they both become socialists? AOC was heavily influenced by BS. The USA’s two worst national socialists were both born and raised in New York City. AOC grew up during BS’s years as a career politician. She learned a lot about socialism and wanted to get on the dole too. BS is the oldest white male who is running for nomination. BS is so elderly that he could be AOC’s grandfather (he is 48 years older than her). AOC was born a year after BS’s infamous honeymoon (1988) in the USSR just as Soviet socialism self-destructed. Sanders was born in 1941 shortly after Soviet socialism’s partnership with German socialism. Soviet socialism (under Stalin) and German socialism (under Hitler) had joined to launch WWII, destroying Poland together, and going onward from there in a pact to enslave Europe. After German socialism was defeated, Soviet socialism continued (as Sanders grew up) to ruin millions of lives and increase its record-setting mass-murders. As a child, Sanders had learned about socialism from his parents and other relatives. They attended government schools (socialist schools) in the USA where students were forced to perform the Nazi salute and chant robotically to the flag each morning at the ring of a bell. The Pledge of Allegiance to the USA’s Flag was the origin of the infamous stiff-armed salute (and other propagandistic behavior) that was borrowed decades later under German socialism and under other socialists worldwide. The pledge was written by an American socialist (Francis Bellamy) in order to spread socialism. Anyone who refused the ritual in the socialist schools was persecuted. At that time the socialist schools taught racism as official policy and imposed segregation by law. Sanders also learned socialism from government schools that he attended, and he chanted in unison each morning to the flag too (although the gesture had changed to hide socialism’s putrid history). During Sanders’ youth the socialist schools continued to teach racism as official policy and continued to impose segregation by law. “America’s Nazi salute” was often performed by public officials in the USA from 1892 through 1942. What happened to old photographs and films of the American Nazi salute performed by federal, state, county, and local officials? Those photos and films are rare because people don't want to know the truth about the government’s past. American youth groups (Scouting) adopted Bellamy's American Nazi salute (with Bellamy’s encouragement) AND saluted swastika badges (卐) worn by fellow scouts. Many Americans were accustomed to “Nazi salutes for swastikas” long before German socialism (and Hitler Youth) adopted similar behavior under Hitler. That helps to explain another shocking revelation: swastikas were promoted in the US military and worn as a patch on the upper left arm of American soldiers in a fashion that would become uniform under German socialism. There are photos in this book!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do we really know about our military except what we read in magazines, the internet, or see on television? Do we even want to know or are we apathetic enough not to care? This is one man's journey through the military including the good, the bad and somewhere in-between. To some Americans it will be a surprising peek at the machinations behind the scenes. Still to some, it will make them mad to read about American "mistakes". To others it will not matter at all, but written up to "collateral damage" in a government that has gotten so big that costly mistakes are bound to be made. Read the story yourself and decide what you think.

Book THOSE DAMNED NAZIS

Download or read book THOSE DAMNED NAZIS written by Dead Writers Club and published by No Pledge Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-08 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Those Damned Nazis” was written by Joseph Goebbels in 1929. Goebbels was the Minister of Propaganda under Adolf Hitler from 1933-1945. There are many different media descriptions of Nazism and Fascism in critiques of Goebbels and Hitler. But what did Goebbels actually say when he talked? To find out, come inside his mouth. See what he said. This book examines the actual words of the men who came close to destroying the planet. If we are to discover the minds of Goebbels (and Hitler), we must penetrate behind the thick curtains of superficial evidence which conceal them and the unreliable media intermediaries who have distorted their speeches and writings. For example, “Those Damned Nazis” is not the actual name of Goebbels’ infamous publication. The title was “Die verfluchten Hakenkreuzler” or “Those Damned Hakenkreuzlers.” Goebbels did not use the word “Nazi” in the title nor anywhere within the pamphlet (The revelations in this paragraph were uncovered in the historian Dr. Rex Curry’s work). “Those Damned Nazis” is a misleading translation. The entire text of “Those Damned Nazis” is provided. It is also analyzed. This book is a useful study guide to Hitler's Mein Kampf, whereby what had been a vague plan suddenly was reality, almost to the disbelief of Goebbels and other supporters. Goebbels supported public schools so that his deadly dogma could be spread throughout Germany’s educational system. This book is a startling expose' of the origin of Goebbels’ goals. This book reveals that many of Goebbels’ shocking ideas were borrowed from the USA. Decades before Goebbels and Hitler, the state governments in the USA took over education and taught schoolchildren to chant in unison and perform the Nazi salute each day within schools that imposed segregation by law and taught racism as official policy. The USA’s flag pledge was the origin of Germany’s infamous stiff-armed salute (and other brainwashing behavior) that was borrowed decades later in Germany and in other countries worldwide. Anyone who rejected the ritual in the public schools was persecuted.

Book Why Are We Socialists

Download or read book Why Are We Socialists written by Joseph Goebbels and published by No Pledge Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-17 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Why are we socialists?” was written by Dr. Joseph Goebbels in 1929. Goebbels was the Minister of Propaganda under Adolf Hitler from 1933-1945. Goebbels has been described in various ways in documentaries that critique Nazism and Fascism. But what did Goebbels actually say when he talked? To find out, come inside his mouth. See what he said. This book examines the actual words of a man who came close to destroying the planet. If we are to discover the minds of Goebbels (and Hitler), we must penetrate behind the thick curtains of superficial evidence which conceal them and the unreliable media intermediaries who have distorted their speeches and writings. For example, “Why are we socialists?” is merely a small section of a larger article authored by Goebbels that is usually titled: “Those Damned Nazis.” However that is not the title that Goebbels’ gave his larger publication. In the German language the title was “Die verfluchten Hakenkreuzler” or “Those Damned Hakenkreuzlers.” Goebbels did not use the word “Nazi” in the title nor anywhere within the pamphlet (The revelations in this paragraph were uncovered in the historian Dr. Rex Curry’s work). “Those Damned Nazis” is a deceitful translation that was intended to cover up what Goebbels actually said. This book reproduces the entire text of “Why are we socialists?” As a free bonus, specific examination of Mein Kampf is made for many comparisons. This book is a useful study guide to Hitler's Mein Kampf, whereby what had been a vague plan suddenly was reality, almost to the disbelief of Goebbels and other supporters. Goebbels supported schools so that his deadly dogma could be spread throughout Germany’s educational system. This book is a startling expose' of the origin of Goebbels’ goals. This book reveals that many of Goebbels’ shocking ideas were borrowed from the USA.

Book excerpt: There are many different media descriptions of Fascism and Nazism in critiques of Joseph Goebbels and Adolf Hitler. But what did “Der Fuhrer” and his “Minister of Propaganda” actually say when they spoke publicly and authored written statements? To find out, come inside their mouths; see what they said. This book examines the actual words of the men who came close to destroying the world. These revelations are indisputably authentic, raw, and fascinating. They are an un-retouched look at the inner recesses of the minds behind the Nazi Party. This is a useful companion volume or study guide to Hitler's Mein Kampf, whereby what had been a vague plan suddenly was reality, almost to the disbelief of its author and his assistants. If we are to discover the minds of Hitler and Goebbels, we must penetrate behind the thick curtains of superficial evidence which distort them and the unreliable media middlemen who have altered their speeches and writings. Download or read book AGNOTOLOGY written by American Psycho Association and published by No Pledge Publishing. This book was released on with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agnotology is the study of ignorance. This expose' unleashes a new attack on traditional questions about "how we know" to ask: Why don't we know what we don't know?! Agnotology (formerly agnatology) shows that ignorance is often more than just a lack of knowledge; it can also be the deliberate manufactured outcome of political and cultural struggles. What keeps ignorance alive, or allows it to be used as a political weapon of mass destruction? Ignorance has a history and a political geography, but there are also things people don't want you to know ("Ignorance is bliss" is a common cliché). This book treats examples from the realms of economic illiteracy, history, global climate change, militarism, environmental denialism, archaeology and anarchaeology, racial ignorance, and more. Those who do not study the past are condemned to repeat it. The goal of Agnotologists is to better understand how and why various forms of knowing do not come to be, or have disappeared, or have become invisible.
