Book New Challenges in Grid Generation and Adaptivity for Scientific Computing

Download or read book New Challenges in Grid Generation and Adaptivity for Scientific Computing written by Simona Perotto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-27 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects selected contributions from the “Fourth Tetrahedron Workshop on Grid Generation for Numerical Computations”, which was held in Verbania, Italy in July 2013. The previous editions of this Workshop were hosted by the Weierstrass Institute in Berlin (2005), by INRIA Rocquencourt in Paris (2007), and by Swansea University (2010). This book covers different, though related, aspects of the field: the generation of quality grids for complex three-dimensional geometries; parallel mesh generation algorithms; mesh adaptation, including both theoretical and implementation aspects; grid generation and adaptation on surfaces – all with an interesting mix of numerical analysis, computer science and strongly application-oriented problems.

Book Mesh Adaptation for Computational Fluid Dynamics Volume 2

Download or read book Mesh Adaptation for Computational Fluid Dynamics Volume 2 written by Alain Dervieux and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-08-23 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simulation technology, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in particular, is essential in the search for solutions to the modern challenges faced by humanity. Revolutions in CFD over the last decade include the use of unstructured meshes, permitting the modeling of any 3D geometry. New frontiers point to mesh adaptation, allowing not only seamless meshing (for the engineer) but also simulation certification for safer products and risk prediction. Mesh Adaptation for Computational Dynamics 2 is the second of two volumes and introduces topics including optimal control formulation, minimizing a goal function, and extending the steady algorithm to unsteady physics. Also covered are multi-rate strategies, steady inviscid flows in aeronautics and an extension to viscous flows. This book will be useful to anybody interested in mesh adaptation pertaining to CFD, especially researchers, teachers and students.

Book Handbook of Grid Generation

Download or read book Handbook of Grid Generation written by Joe F. Thompson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-12-29 with total page 1136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Grid Generation addresses the use of grids (meshes) in the numerical solutions of partial differential equations by finite elements, finite volume, finite differences, and boundary elements. Four parts divide the chapters: structured grids, unstructured girds, surface definition, and adaption/quality. An introduction to each section provides a roadmap through the material. This handbook covers: Fundamental concepts and approaches Grid generation process Essential mathematical elements from tensor analysis and differential geometry, particularly relevant to curves and surfaces Cells of any shape - Cartesian, structured curvilinear coordinates, unstructured tetrahedra, unstructured hexahedra, or various combinations Separate grids overlaid on one another, communicating data through interpolation Moving boundaries and internal interfaces in the field Resolving gradients and controlling solution error Grid generation codes, both commercial and freeware, as well as representative and illustrative grid configurations Handbook of Grid Generation contains 37 chapters as well as contributions from more than 100 experts from around the world, comprehensively evaluating this expanding field and providing a fundamental orientation for practitioners.

Book Computational Results for Parallel Unstructured Mesh Computations

Download or read book Computational Results for Parallel Unstructured Mesh Computations written by Mark T. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "The majority of finite element models in structural engineering are composed of unstructured meshes. These unstructured meshes are often very large and require significant computational resources; hence they are excellent candidates for massively parallel computation. Parallel solution of the sparse matrices that arise from such meshes has been studied heavily, and many good algorithms have been developed. Unfortunately, many of the other aspects of parallel unstructured mesh computation have gone largely ignored. We present a set of algorithms that allow the entire unstructured mesh computation process to execute in parallel -- including adaptive mesh refinement, equation reordering, mesh partitioning, and sparse linear system solution. We briefly describe these algorithms and state results regarding their running-time and performance. We then give results from the 512-processor Intel DELTA for a large-scale structural analysis problem. These results demonstrate that the new algorithms are scalable and efficient. The algorithms are able to achieve up to 2.2 gigaflops for this unstructured mesh problem."
