Book AMX30 Main Battle Tank Enthusiasts Manual

Download or read book AMX30 Main Battle Tank Enthusiasts Manual written by M.P. Robinson and published by Haynes Publishing UK. This book was released on 2020-02-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The AMX30 Char de Bataille was the standard French Main Battle Tank during the Cold War era. Armed with a smoothbore 105mm main armament (the OBUS-G), AMX30 was lighter and more mobile than other main battle tanks, with excellent acceleration and cross-country agility (which later came into its own during the First Gulf War). For this reason it found a ready export market for those armies that did not want a fully-fledged Main Battle Tank. Foreign customers included Greece, Spain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iraq, Chile, Venezuela, Cyprus, Qatar and Bosnia. French AMX30 tanks saw combat with Division Daguet in the Gulf War and with the Qataris at the Battle of Khafji in the First Gulf War in 1991. Later versions of the tank were still in service in the Middle East in 2019"--

The Centurion has seen extensive combat in the Korean War (Britain), Vietnam (Australia), the Middle East (Israel) in the 1967 Six Day War, 1973 Yom Kippur War, and during the 1978 and 1982 invasions of Lebanon, and in the Indo-Pakistan War (India) in 1965 where it fought against US-supplied M47 and M48 Patton tanks.

  • Author : Thiery Guillemain
  • Publisher : Photosniper
  • Release : 2015-05-19
  • ISBN : 9788364596353
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Char Leclerc written by Thiery Guillemain and published by Photosniper. This book was released on 2015-05-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Leclerc is the only battle tank serving in operational combat units in the French Army. Designed as a Cold War era tank killer that could take on numerically superior enemies, the Leclerc has served the armies of France and the United Arab Emirates for over twenty years. Since 1989 when the first Leclerc prototype appeared, it has been counted amongst the world's most complex and deadly AFVs. Despite its fame, relatively little has appeared on the Leclerc in English, and much of the information about the Leclerc on the web is incorrect. Even in French, it has been ten years since the Leclerc was studied in a published work. Char Leclerc by MP Robinson and Thierry Guillemain is a survey of the Leclerc's development and service in the French Army right up to the present day. It explains the differences between the eleven Leclerc production batches produced for the French Army, the different Leclerc derived vehicles, and the changes that have transformed the French armored force since the Leclerc first entered service. This latest addition to the Kagero Photosniper series is illustrated with over 220 unpublished photographs and ten color plates, making it an ideal reference for historians and modelers alike.

Book The Rolls Royce Armoured Car

Download or read book The Rolls Royce Armoured Car written by David Fletcher and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-20 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first Rolls-Royce armoured car was a privately owned vehicle fitted with a machine-gun and a limited amount of armour plate, used by the Royal Naval Air Service in Flanders in 1914. By 1915, nearly 100 had been built and turned over to the Army. From then on, as Sir Albert Stern said 'They searched the world for war', operating as far apart as the northwest frontier of India, the Middle East and southern Africa. The cars were fast, quiet and reliable but above all powerful. 'A Rolls in the desert is above rubies,' said Lawrence of Arabia. After World War I, the War Office continued to produce the Rolls-Royce while tinkering with the design. These further cars served all across the Empire, including in Ireland and even later Shanghai, returning for a final brief appearance in the early stages of World War II.This book tells the complete story of the Rolls-Royce Armoured Car, following its design and development as it fought from theatre to theatre during World War I and the turbulent inter-war years.

Book The AMX 13 Light Tank

Download or read book The AMX 13 Light Tank written by M.P. Robinson and published by Casemate Publishers. This book was released on 2017-09-30 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The AMX 13 was originally designed in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War. It represents French ambitions for national resurgence and withdrawal from wartime dependence on American military technology.Being a light tank it was an ambitious and far sighted departure from conventional tank design and it found a ready export market as well as being a critical part in the French Army arsenal. Its basic hull design lent itself to the development of a vast list of variants.French designers progressively modernized, and indeed reinvented, the AMX13 and enabled it to claim to be one of the most successful armored vehicle programs of the postwar period. It proved its worth in numerous small wars worldwide in the service of many countries. This, the first commercially published work on the AMX13 in English, examines in detail the technical industrial and tactical story of this remarkably successful armored fighting vehicle. The authoritative text is backed by an impressive selection of images

Book M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank Manual

Download or read book M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank Manual written by Bruce Oliver Newsome and published by Haynes Publishing UK. This book was released on 2017-06-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American M1 Abrams main battle tank is a revolutionary design: it broke an evolutionary development lineage from the M20 medium tank of 1941 to the M60 (which it replaced, and which stayed in production until 1987). The M1 remains the only main battle tank in the inventories of the US Army and the US Marine Corps, with years of service to come, while no replacement has been procured. It is believed that the M1 will easily serve for more than 50 years in the US alone. The US retains about 6,000 M1s, while almost 2,000 are in use with the armies of other countries including Australia, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

Download or read book Death Traps written by Belton Y. Cooper and published by Presidio Press. This book was released on 2007-12-18 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “An important contribution to the history of World War II . . . I have never before been able to learn so much about maintenance methods of an armored division, with precise details that underline the importance of the work, along with descriptions of how the job was done.”—Russell F. Weigley, author of Eisenhower’s Lieutenants “Cooper saw more of the war than most junior officers, and he writes about it better than almost anyone. . . . His stories are vivid, enlightening, full of life—and of pain, sorrow, horror, and triumph.”—Stephen E. Ambrose, from his Foreword “In a down-to-earth style, Death Traps tells the compelling story of one man’s assignment to the famous 3rd Armored Division that spearheaded the American advance from Normandy into Germany. Cooper served as an ordnance officer with the forward elements and was responsible for coordinating the recovery and repair of damaged American tanks. This was a dangerous job that often required him to travel alone through enemy territory, and the author recalls his service with pride, downplaying his role in the vast effort that kept the American forces well equipped and supplied. . . . [Readers] will be left with an indelible impression of the importance of the support troops and how dependent combat forces were on them.”—Library Journal “As an alumnus of the 3rd, I eagerly awaited this book’s coming out since I heard of its release . . . and the wait and the book have both been worth it. . . . Cooper is a very polished writer, and the book is very readable. But there is a certain quality of ‘you are there’ many other memoirs do not seem to have. . . . Nothing in recent times—ridgerunning in Korea, firebases in Vietnam, or even the one hundred hours of Desert Storm—pressed the ingenuity and resolve of American troops . . . like WWII. This book lays it out better than any other recent effort, and should be part of the library of any contemporary warrior.”—Stephen Sewell, Armor Magazine “Cooper’s writing and recall of harrowing events is superb and engrossing. Highly recommended.”—Robert A. Lynn, The Stars and Stripes “This detailed story will become a classic of WWII history and required reading for anyone interested in armored warfare.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review) “[Death Traps] fills a critical gap in WWII literature. . . . It’s a truly unique and valuable work.”—G.I. Journal
