Download or read book Technology s Storytellers written by John M. Staudenmaier and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1989-09-06 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology's Storytellers documents the emergence of the history of technology as a coherent intellectual discipline. Based on an analysis of nearly 300 articles published in Technology and Culture, it proposes a mode of historical research as a communal rather than an individualistic endeavor—looking for patterns of consensus in the authors' choice of time periods, geographical locations, and types of technology to study. It discusses the recurrent themes of the relationship between science and technology and the cultural ambience of technology, and examines the extent to which historians are moving away from a once pervasive ideology of autonomous technological progress. Co-published with the Society for the History of Technology.

Download or read book Comparison and Harmonisation of Denominator Data for Primary Health Care Research in Countries of the European Community written by Martin Schlaud and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Used extensively in North America and Europe, seminal practice networks, also referred to as practice research networks, recruit office-based physicians to monitor defined events among their patients, such as influenza, mumps and asthma attacks, at regional, county and even national levels. After adequate analysis, these data indicate spatial and temporal trends in event frequencies: comparibility of national results is, however, limited, partly due to the different national health systems influencing the demand of medical care. More importantly, the lack of comparable data on the population from which the cases arise - denominator data - obstructs the comparison of data from primary care research between different regions or countries.
