With a sample of 454 million?(4S) → B{bar B} decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC, we measure the magnitudes and phases of the intermediate resonant and nonresonant amplitudes for B° and B° decays and determine the corresponding CP-averaged fit fractions and charge asymmetries.

Both the BELLE and the BABAR collaboration presented, among others, results for sin 2ß with much improved accuracy. Results from the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, SNO, also deserve to be mentioned. The convincing evidence of solar neutrino oscillations had been presented by SNO prior to the conference; a full presentation was given at the conference. An incredibly precise measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is reported, a fresh result from the Brookhaven National Laboratory. Apart from these distinct physics highlights, there are also the first results from the new Tevatron run and from the relativistic heavy ion collider RHIC. Theorists write of our ever better understanding of the Standard Model and of what might lie beyond. Risky as it is to highlight only a couple of exciting subjects, it is merely meantto whet the appetite for further reading.

Book excerpt: We report a Dalitz-plot analysis of the charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the state K{sup {+-}} {pi}{sup {-+}}{pi}{sup {+-}}. Using a sample of 226.0 {+-} 2.5 million B{bar B}pairs collected by the BABAR detector, measure the magnitudes and phases of the intermediate resonant and nonresonant amplitudes both charge conjugate decays. We present measurements of the corresponding branching and their charge asymmetries that supersede those of previous BABAR analyses. We find the asymmetries to be consistent with zero.

In addition to improved constraints on [alpha] from the decays B{sup {+-}} 2![rho]{sup {+-}}[rho]°, we also present preliminary results of neutral and charged B meson decays to K1(1270)[pi] and K1(1400)[pi] and its impact on the estimate for the CKM angle [alpha] based on time-dependent analysis of CP-violating asymmetries in B° 2!a1(1260){sup {+-}} [pi]{sup {-+}}. Moreover we report the first observation of the decay B 2!a1(1260){sup {+-}}a1(1260){sup {-+}}; this mode can be used, in principle, to provide an independent measurement of [alpha].

Book excerpt: We present preliminary results of searches for charged B mesons decaying into the charmless three-body final states h[sup[+-]] h[sup[-+]] h[sup[+-]], where h=[pi] or K, using 51.5 fb[sup -1] of data collected at the[Upsilon](4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric B Factory. No assumptions are made about intermediate resonances. We measure the branching fractions[Beta](B[sup[+-]][yields] K[sup[+-]][pi][sup[-+]][pi][sup[+-]])= (59.2[+-] 4.7[+-] 4.9) x 10[sup -6] and[Beta](B[sup[+-]][yields] K[sup[+-]] K[sup[-+]] K[sup[+-]])= (34.7[+-] 2.0[+-] 1.8) x 10[sup -6], where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic. In the same study, we do not observe significant signals for the final states B[sup[+-]][yields][pi][sup[+-]][pi][sup[-+]][pi][sup[+-]] and B[sup[+-]][yields] K[sup[+-]] K[sup[-+]][pi][sup[+-]], and therefore provide the 90% confidence upper limits[Beta](B[sup[+-]][yields][pi][sup[+-]][pi][sup[-+]][pi][sup[+-]])

The analysis was based on a sample of approximately 340.7 fb-1 of data taken at the (4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider at SLAC from May 1999 to August 2006. The sample contains (379.9 ± 4.2) million B$\bar{B}$ pairs.
