Book Introduction to Astrochemistry

Download or read book Introduction to Astrochemistry written by Satoshi Yamamoto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-13 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important book describes the basic principles of astrochemistry—an interdisciplinary field combining astronomy, physics, and chemistry—with particular emphasis on its physical and chemical background. Chemical processes in diffuse clouds, dense quiescent molecular clouds, star-forming regions, and protoplanetary disks are discussed. A brief introduction to molecular spectroscopy and observational techniques is also presented. These contents provide astronomers with a comprehensive understanding of how interstellar matter is evolved and brought into stars and planets, which is ultimately related to the origin of the solar system. The subject matter will also be understandable and useful for physical chemists who are interested in exotic chemical processes occurring in extreme physical conditions. The book is a valuable resource for all researchers beginning at the graduate level.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 661 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new calibration atlas is based on frequency rather than wavelength calibration techniques for absolute ref's. Add'l. data from alternate methodology are used for different frequency measurements within each band investigated by freq'y. measurement techniques. Data from these complementary techniques incl. the best Fourier transform measurements available. Includes a description of the heterodyne freq'y. measurement techniques, and calculation proceed. Bib'y. of 350 entries. Several hundred spectral-maps for the various calibration molecules.

Book Superconducting Electronics

Download or read book Superconducting Electronics written by Harold Weinstock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The genesis of the NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) upon which this volume is based, occurred during the summer of 1986 when we came to the realization that there had been significant progress during the early 1980's in the field of superconducting electronics and in applications of this technology. Despite this progress, there was a perception among many engineers and scientists that, with the possible exception of a limited number of esoteric fundamental studies and applications (e.g., the Josephson voltage standard or the SQUID magnetometer), there was no significant future for electronic systems incorporating superconducting elements. One of the major reasons for this perception was the aversion to handling liquid helium or including a closed-cycle helium liquefier. In addition, many critics felt that IBM's cancellation of its superconducting computer project in 1983 was "proof" that superconductors could not possibly compete with semiconductors in high-speed signal processing. From our perspective, the need for liquid helium was outweighed by improved performance, i. e., higher speed, lower noise, greater sensitivity and much lower power dissipation. For many commercial, medical, scientific and military applications, these attributes can lead to either enhanced capability (e.g., compact real-time signal processing) or measurements that cannot be made using any other technology (e.g., SQUID magnetometry to detect neuromagnetic activity).

Book Rare Earth Doped Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers Revised and Expanded

Download or read book Rare Earth Doped Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers Revised and Expanded written by Michel J.F. Digonnet and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-05-31 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rare-Earth-Doped Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers, Second Edition discusses the essential principles, operating characteristics, and current technology of the main fiber laser and amplifier devices based on rare-earth-doped silica and fluorozirconate fibers. Covering all aspects of this revolutionary technology, the book reviews fiber fabrication methods and the basic spectroscopic properties of rare-earth ions in glasses, concentrates on the most important fiber laser sources, examines several advances in fiber amplifiers, and analyzes new findings and improvements in single-frequency operation, frequency tenability, broadband fiber sources, and blue-green and far-infrared fiber lasers.

Book Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers and mm Wave Wireless Links for Converged Access Networks

Download or read book Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers and mm Wave Wireless Links for Converged Access Networks written by Koenig, Swen and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-20 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Future access networks are converged optical-wireless networks, where fixed-line and wireless services share the same infrastructure. In this book, semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) and mm-wave wireless links are investigated, and their use in converged access networks is explored: SOAs compensate losses in the network, and thereby extend the network reach. Millimeter-wave wireless links substitute fiber links when cabling is not economical.
