Download or read book Bridge Engineering written by Demetrios E. Tonias and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 1995 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design, rehabilitate, and maintain modern highway bridges. From steel and reinforced concrete design, to highway layout and basic geometrics, to geotechnical engineering and hydraulics, Demetrios E. Tonia's Bridge Engineering: Design, Rehabilitation, and Maintenance of Modern Highway Bridges fully integrates the resources you need to master the entire bridge-design process. Written with unusual clarity--and packed with timely design examples and case studies plus eye-opening sidebars and graphics--it shows you how to: understand bridge structures, functions, types, and applications; design superstructures and substructures for maximum maintainability; design highway components--approach pavements and slabs, structure geometrics and elevations, roadway alignments, and more; kick off the project--from funding to site surveying and coring; manage the design process--contract documents, reports, plans, client interactions, and more; manage the bridge itself--from creating a structure inventory to extending GIS and CADD functionality.
Download or read book Methods for Increasing Live Load Capacity of Existing Highway Bridges written by Roger A. Dorton and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1997 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to state department of transportation bridge design and structural engineers, bridge consultants, and others involved in applied and research methods for increasing the live load capacity of existing highway bridges. The synthesis describes the current state of the practice for the various methods used to increase the live load capacity of existing highway bridges. This is done predominantly for bridges in the short- to medium-span range. Information on the more common bridge material types is presented. There is an emphasis on superstructure rather than substructure strengthening.

Download or read book AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications written by American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 1134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The provisions of these Specifications are intended for the design, evaluation and rehabilitation of both fixed and movable highway bridges. Mechanical, electrical, and special vehicular and pedestrian safety aspects of movable bridges, however, are not covered. Provisions are not included for bridges used solely for railway, rail transit or public utilities. For bridges not fully covered herein, the provisions of these Specifications mat be applied, as augmented with additional design criteria where required. These specifications are not intended to supplant proper training or the exercise of judgment by the Designer, and state only the minimum requirements necessary to provide for public safety. The Owner or the Designer may require the sophistication of design or the quality of materials and construction to be higher than the minimum requirements. The concept of safety through redundancy and ductility, and protection against scour and collision are emphasized. The design provisions of these Specifications employ the Load and Resistance Factor Design, LRFD, methodology. The factors have been developed from the theory of reliability based upon current statistical knowledge of loads and structural performance. Methods of analysis, other than those included in previous Specifications, and the modelling techniques inherent in them are included, and their use is encouraged. The commentary is not intended to provide a complete historical background concerning the development of these, or previous Specifications, nor is it intended to provide a detailed summary of the studies and research data reviewed in formulating the provisions of the Specification. However, references to some of the research data are provided for those who wish to study the background material in depth. The commentary directs attention to other documents that provide suggestions for carrying out the requirements and intent of these Specifications. However, those documents and this commentary are not intended to be a part of these Specifications."--Page1-1.
