Book Alphonse Mucha Drawings and Watercolors

Download or read book Alphonse Mucha Drawings and Watercolors written by Narim Bender and published by . This book was released on 2015-01-15 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alphonse Maria Mucha was a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist, known best for his distinctive style. He produced many drawings, paintings, illustrations, advertisements, postcards, and designs. The Mucha Style became known as Art Nouveau ("new art"). Mucha's works frequently featured beautiful young women in flowing, vaguely Neoclassical-looking robes, and often surrounded by lush flowers which sometimes formed halos behind their heads. In contrast with contemporary poster makers he used pale pastel colors. His Art Nouveau style was often imitated. Mucha always insisted that rather than maintaining any fashionable stylistic form, his paintings were entirely a product of himself and Czech art. His Slav Epic was rolled and stored for twenty-five years before being shown in Moravsky Krumlov, and a Mucha museum opened in Prague, managed by his grandson John Mucha. Mucha's work has continued to experience periodic revivals of interest for illustrators and artists.

Download or read book Alphonse Mucha written by Patrick Bade and published by Parkstone International. This book was released on 2012-01-17 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in 1860 in a small Czech town, Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) was an artist on the forefront of Art Nouveau, the modernist movement that swept Paris in the 1910s, marking a return to the simplicity of natural forms, and changing the world of art and design forever. In fact, Art Nouveau was known to insiders as the “Mucha style” for the legions of imitators who adapted the master’s celebrated tableaux. Today, his distinctive depictions of lithe young women in classical dress have become a pop cultural touchstone, inspiring album covers, comic books, and everything in between. Patrick Bade and Victoria Charles offer readers an inspiring survey of Mucha’s career, illustrated with over one hundred lustrous images, from early Parisian advertisements and posters for Sandra Bernhardt, to the famous historical murals painted just before his death, at the age of 78, in 1939.
