Book Mechanics of Sediment Transportation and Alluvial Stream Problems

Download or read book Mechanics of Sediment Transportation and Alluvial Stream Problems written by R. J. Garde and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised Second Edition features updated information on sediment transport through pipes and the principles of sediment transportation which form the basis for solving alluvial stream problems. Discusses such theoretical aspects as properties of sediments, incipient motion condition, flow regimes, resistance to flow, bed load transport, suspended load and total load transport. Also covers applied problems including sediment samplers and sampling, stable channels, alluvial streams and sediment control.

Book Erosion and Sedimentation Problems for Alluvial Rivers and Possible Remedies

Download or read book Erosion and Sedimentation Problems for Alluvial Rivers and Possible Remedies written by Zafar Masood Siddiqui and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Erosion & sedimentation in alluvial river is a continuous phenomenon in nature. This paper focuses the major governing mechanisms and influencing factors. River morphology, silt component and river meandering affect in shaping river cross section. The amount of sediment and erosion in a river can be predicted by the available computer models for the efficient planning of hydraulics structures. Control of adverse effect of this process in a river channel to make it more smooth, stable and efficient for all purpose are also discussed in this paper. [Author's abstract].

  • Author : National Research Council

Download or read book Alluvial Fan Flooding written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-10-07 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alluvial fans are gently sloping, fan-shaped landforms common at the base of mountain ranges in arid and semiarid regions such as the American West. Floods on alluvial fans, although characterized by relatively shallow depths, strike with little if any warning, can travel at extremely high velocities, and can carry a tremendous amount of sediment and debris. Such flooding presents unique problems to federal and state planners in terms of quantifying flood hazards, predicting the magnitude at which those hazards can be expected at a particular location, and devising reliable mitigation strategies. Alluvial Fan Flooding attempts to improve our capability to determine whether areas are subject to alluvial fan flooding and provides a practical perspective on how to make such a determination. The book presents criteria for determining whether an area is subject to flooding and provides examples of applying the definition and criteria to real situations in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, and elsewhere. The volume also contains recommendations for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which is primarily responsible for floodplain mapping, and for state and local decisionmakers involved in flood hazard reduction.
