This book was released on 2018-02-10 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Alloys and Their Industrial Applications During the last few years an enormous amount of research work has been carried out with the object of determining the nature and physical properties of alloys, and much valuable information has been accumulated. This information, which deals mainly with the simple alloys of two metals, is scattered throughout the numerous periodicals and publications in which the original communications have appeared, and up to the present no attempt has been made to collect the facts or to apply them to the more complex commercial alloys. Book excerpt: In industry very few metals are used in their pure form; the majority are employed as a combination of a metal with other metals, nonmetals or metalloids. In this way some specific properties are improved, making the alloy more attractive than the pure metal. The present work comprises essential information on alloys in one compact volume. Classification, properties, preparation, applications, and economic aspects are discussed for alloy steels, primary-metal alloys, light-metal alloys, and some other alloy systems. The work is based on more than 30 articles from Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry and represents the effort of over 60 specialists. It supplies hundreds of top-quality illustrations, diagrams, and charts and provides hand-picked references for further study. An introductory overview of the subject is provided by the editor. The book is a handy yet authoritative reference work for the practicing metallurgist, but also for physical metallurgists, engineers and scientists in industry.

Book Superalloys for Industry Applications

Download or read book Superalloys for Industry Applications written by Sinem Cevik and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-08-01 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, superalloys have been widespread usage in aerospace gas turbine engine parts. The main reason of it is that these materials have high yield, ultimate tensile strength, and very good corrosion/oxidation resistance, and they combine these good properties with an excellent creep resistance at elevated temperatures. In spite of their outstanding properties, superalloys can lose their mechanical strength because of wear, tear, and crack formation when they are exposed to high-service temperatures and heavy working conditions. Moreover, corrosion is another important issue for superalloys because the materials of gas turbine engine parts are exposed to harsh engine environments, which consist of many pollutants and hot gases. Therefore, special attention must be given to the corrosion behavior of superalloys. This book provides information on the interaction between the microstructure of alloys and their mechanical properties and also the position of superalloys in the manufacturing industry. Topics cover the minimization of the formation of microsegregation and detrimental phases in the GTA welding of superalloys, oxidation kinetics of nickel-based superalloys used in the manufacture of rings for aircraft engines, a review of the work done over the last two decades to understand the hot corrosion behavior of superalloys used in advanced coal-based power plants, ultrasonic-assisted machining of Inconel 718, dry high-speed turning of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy, and laser welding in dentistry. The book "Superalloys for Industry Applications" consists of contributions by scientists and engineers who are experienced in the production, design, and analysis of materials from all around the world. We hope that this book will be an irreplaceable source of study for manufacturing, degradation mechanisms, and reliability of superalloys.
