If you are looking for a gift for a puzzle fan, or enjoy solving codewords yourself, look no further than this collection of brand new crossword-style code-cracking puzzles, for a brand new year. This fantastic collection is sure to keep any codewords fan on their toes and will even help to train the novice puzzler into an expert! The puzzles are dated for every day of the year from 1st January 2021 onwards, so there's no chance of losing track and with two puzzles a page, there's plenty of room to take notes if needed. Every puzzle has a single solution, is played on a 13x13 grid, and has three hint letters to get you started. We recommend you start by placing these into the grid. That may reveal other words straightaway. If not, it is often worth trying to place common letters such as the E early on to help with your code breaking. The three most common letters in English are E, T and A: remember that counting how many times each number appears in the grid can be a good indication as to the number that represents these letters. If you get stuck along the way, take a look towards the back of the book where you will find all of the solutions to help you. We hope that you, or the puzzle lover you buy this book for, enjoys cracking the codewords. All of our puzzle books are printed on very high quality paper making the puzzle experience all the more enjoyable! Download or read book List Decoding of Error Correcting Codes written by Venkatesan Guruswami and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-11-29 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can one exchange information e?ectively when the medium of com- nication introduces errors? This question has been investigated extensively starting with the seminal works of Shannon (1948) and Hamming (1950), and has led to the rich theory of “error-correcting codes”. This theory has traditionally gone hand in hand with the algorithmic theory of “decoding” that tackles the problem of recovering from the errors e?ciently. This thesis presents some spectacular new results in the area of decoding algorithms for error-correctingcodes. Speci?cally,itshowshowthenotionof“list-decoding” can be applied to recover from far more errors, for a wide variety of err- correcting codes, than achievable before. A brief bit of background: error-correcting codes are combinatorial str- tures that show how to represent (or “encode”) information so that it is - silient to a moderate number of errors. Speci?cally, an error-correcting code takes a short binary string, called the message, and shows how to transform it into a longer binary string, called the codeword, so that if a small number of bits of the codewordare ?ipped, the resulting string does not look like any other codeword. The maximum number of errorsthat the code is guaranteed to detect, denoted d, is a central parameter in its design. A basic property of such a code is that if the number of errors that occur is known to be smaller than d/2, the message is determined uniquely. This poses a computational problem, calledthedecodingproblem:computethemessagefromacorrupted codeword, when the number of errors is less than d/2.

Download or read book Space Time Coding written by Hamid Jafarkhani and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-09-22 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the fundamental principles of space-time coding for wireless communications over multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels, and sets out practical coding methods for achieving the performance improvements predicted by the theory. Starting with background material on wireless communications and the capacity of MIMO channels, the book then reviews design criteria for space-time codes. A detailed treatment of the theory behind space-time block codes then leads on to an in-depth discussion of space-time trellis codes. The book continues with discussion of differential space-time modulation, BLAST and some other space-time processing methods and the final chapter addresses additional topics in space-time coding. The theory and practice sections can be used independently of each other. Written by one of the inventors of space-time block coding, this book is ideal for a graduate student familiar with the basics of digital communications, and for engineers implementing the theory in real systems.
