Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All the Glory of Adam examines Dead Sea Scroll texts which pertain to the Qumran community’s understanding of (a) a transcendent, angelomorphic or divine humanity and (b) the role of cultic space and time, and the experience of worship, in the formation of such a humanity. The book contains twelve chapters. The first three are devoted to material which either antedates or provides important cognate material to the peculiarly sectarian material studied in the remaining chapters (esp. the Book of Noah and Sirach). Chapters 4-6 examine texts devoted to a divine humanity (4Q381, Hodayoth, 1Q/4QInstruction etc.), the divine or angelic Moses (4Q374 & 4Q377) and the heavenly human priesthood (1QSb, 4Q511, 4Q418 81, 4Q545, 4Q541, 4Q468b etc.). The seventh chapter discusses the mystical and theophanic significance of the high priest’s breastpiece at Qumran. Chapters 8-11 are a revisionist reading of the Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice as a liturgy for a divine humanity and chapter 13 proposes a new interpretation of 1QM 10-17 in the same vein. Apart from all DSS scholars the book will be useful for anyone working on biblical anthropology, messianism and Christology, and temple or cultic theology.

Book Adam s Dust and Adam s Glory in the Hodayot and the Letters of Paul

Download or read book Adam s Dust and Adam s Glory in the Hodayot and the Letters of Paul written by Nicholas Meyer and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Adam’s Dust and Adam’s Glory, Nicholas A. Meyer challenges the scholarly reconstruction of a traditional theological framework of creation, fall, and restoration in order to comprehend the pessimistic anthropologies of the Hodayot and the letters of Paul. Meyer argues that too little notice has been paid to the fact that this literature problematizes ordinary humanity by way of original humanity—its sexuality, its earthly physicality, its spiritual-moral frailty—and that these texts look not for the restoration of human nature as determined in creation, but rather for its transformation. Setting aside the traditional threefold framework, the author offers an innovative and comprehensive reading of the use of traditions of anthropogony, including the glory of Adam and the image of God, in this literature.

Book Hope When Life Unravels

Download or read book Hope When Life Unravels written by Adam B. Dooley and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2020-06-23 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a pastor and father who has walked a painful road, Hope When Life Unravels explores the encouraging, upside-down truths of the book of Job, and other key Bible passages, to remind us of the ways God is present in our pain. Why does God allow suffering? And why does God seem to go silent when we're in pain? In Hope When Life Unravels, Dr. Adam Dooley, pastor and host of the daily radio broadcast A Better Way, searches for answers to our biggest questions about suffering as he shares his son Carson's story of battling leukemia. Adam speaks openly about the gut-wrenching struggle his family endured for three years of life-threatening illness and how God met them in their hours of need--even when it wasn't in the ways they wanted. And, along with his own story, Adam takes readers through the story of Job, unpacking insights about God's character, his love, and how we can stay connected to him even during seasons of pain. Both inspiring and comforting, Hope When Life Unravels invites us to draw closer to a God who is often active in our lives in times when we have trouble seeing him the most.

Book The Edge of Glory Prayers in the Celtic Tradition

Download or read book The Edge of Glory Prayers in the Celtic Tradition written by David Adam and published by Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Celtic way of prayer the divine glory was intertwined with the ordinariness of everyday events like the patterns on carvings and illuminated gospels. The modern prayers in this book beautifully recapture that tradition. They were composed in a small parish in the north of England to help individuals and groups rediscover the use of life's simple rhythms in their worship of the Eternal Presence. Here are prayers for individual devotions and for corporate worship, as well as for quiet days and retreats.

Book excerpt: Discover the secret to real, realistic, non-rules-based rest For some of us, resting seems like a waste of time-it means we're missing out on other things. For others, rest seems like a luxury-there's simply too much to do. And for almost all of us, we crave rest, but don't always know how to. This warm, realistic, humorous book shows us the huge spiritual, emotional and physical rewards of rest. It shows us how rest gives us time to spend with God and remember his grace. Discover how rest fuels our joy and confidence in God's sovereignty as we learn to depend on him, and not our own efforts, and are refreshed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Adam Mabry shows us how rest helps us make space for relationships, shared experiences and moments to remember; how it liberates us from the pressure of self-reliance; how it gives us a chance to think and reflect; and how it stops us from burning out. Finally, this book casts a realistic vision for rest that is less rule and more rhythm-less onerous restriction and more liberating art form. Adam Mabry helps us to learn the 'art of rest' with some practical suggestions. The world never stops. But we need to. And as Christians we can by having faith to hit pause and experience the rich rewards of God-given rest.

Book The Awakening of Adam

  • Author : Charles Herschel Dove
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation

Download or read book The Awakening of Adam written by Charles Herschel Dove and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2000-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, "The Awakening of Adam" there are 29 articles that reveal the ´Spiritual Adultery´ that is committed by the churches of America and all organized religion. You don´t believe it? Read the book and see. Why do you believe what you believe? That is an all important question. Are you sure what you believe is the truth, or are you just following a family tradition? Just because mommy and daddy believes it does not make it the Truth. This book exposes the self-righteous doctrines and the Phariseeism of churches and pastors that tend to judge you by what their eyes see. The problem is: They can´t see your heart. Social religion is the backbone of the modern day church. We´ve been duped by false doctrines and vain traditions. Why are churches so divided against each other? They have a great knowledge of the bible, but where is their love for the low, the fallen and the broken hearted who live on the streets of America? Where is their love for you when you hurt inside; and when you need someone to love you and to care for your needs? Knowledge of the bible is good. It can help you find your way home, but get this one thing and never forget it, friend. Love, I say Love is the key to the door. Only Love will open the door to the heart of God. Religion and manmade rules that has hurt and turned away many of God´s young children will perish and burn with its evils, but Love will never pass away. Love will stand forever and ever. "God is Love." "The Awakening of Adam" was written to help those true Christians who love God and who seek after Truth, but who have been rejected or put down by friends, family and church, simply for what they believe.) How can this book help you? First, it is a guide to help you find Truth, who lives in you. Second, It can comfort those who have been deeply hurt by churches that are long on religion and a little short on love. Third, It can help to set you free of all guilt and condemnation that may have been haunting you over something in your past. Even things that may have been done to you when you were a child. This book is designed to help tear down those old walls of vain religion and inveterate traditions that have kept us blinded to the Truth. This book seeks to reveal the hiding place of God. Isa. 45:15 says "Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself..." Why would God hide himself? He did it, so that carnal minded man cannot access his awesome power until man´s heart is made pure again as it was before he fell into sin. In man´s present state, he would subvert the power of God and use it for selfish purposes. Only those whose hearts are converted, and who have returned to true Love are allowed access to the fullness of the power of God. "The Awakening of Adam" is about man´s perpetual quest for Truth, and for eternal life. It reveals some of the hindrances that have kept the children of God in darkness, thereby hiding the truth of their true identity. The children of God will eventually become as their Father, when their hearts are made pure. That is what children do, isn´t it? Do they not become equal to their parents? When a boy grows to adulthood and unto perfection, he is just as much a man as his father, or if it is a daughter, she is just as much a woman as her mother. Both of them (the boy and the girl) become able to creat life, i.e., they can produce children of their own, just as their father and mother once did. 1st John 4:17 says: "Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world." Philippians 2:5 and 6 says: "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God." 1st. Cor. 2:15 and 16 says: "But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ." Do you realize the power that you

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Love and wrath. Sovereignty and responsibility. Victory and suffering. Some of the truths we read in the Bible seem to be in opposition to each other. We naturally tend to gravitate towards a side, but when we lose sight of one truth in order to protect the other, we are in danger of becoming proud, creating division, and diminishing our faith. In this compelling, inspiring, and at times provocative book, Adam Mabry urges us to stop taking sides and refuse to participate in tribalism by mapping out a way to hold in tension truths that we so often divide over. You’ll discover how our joy and our witness rest on us learning to hold to all that the Scriptures teach and growing in virtue as we do. You’ll learn how to wrestle with all that the Scriptures say, to embrace mystery, to listen closely, and to speak with clarity.
