Book Alfred Marshall s Last Challenge

Download or read book Alfred Marshall s Last Challenge written by Katia Caldari and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents Alfred Marshall’s final, unfinished, and unpublished book. His main volume, Principles of Economics, was first published in 1890, and was, for a long period of time, the textbook par excellence on which generations of economists were trained. Despite its success and its importance, the book, in its eight editions, testifies to some extent to the failure of Marshall’s original editorial project which should have consisted of multiple volumes and culminated with the publication of a final work on economic progress. Marshall’s death in 1924 made it impossible to realize his project, but many notes written for it have survived. These notes, collected here, constitute a fundamental element in fully understanding the thought and perspectives of this great economist and in appreciating his great modernity and wisdom.

Book The Correspondence of Alfred Marshall Economist

Download or read book The Correspondence of Alfred Marshall Economist written by Alfred Marshall and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-01-26 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second of a three-volume work constituting a comprehensive, scholarly edition of the correspondence of the English economist, Alfred Marshall (1842-1924), one of the leading figures in the development of economics and the founder of the Cambridge School of Economics. The edition fills a long-standing gap in the history of economic thought with hitherto unpublished material. Students will find it a basic resource for understanding the development of economics and other social sciences in the period since 1870. In particular, it provides much new information about Marshall's views on economic, social and political issues, his struggles to promote the teaching of economics at the University of Cambridge, and his relations with colleagues in Cambridge and elsewhere. Marshall's letters are notable for their frankness and spontaneity.

Book THE ECONOMICS OF ALFRED MARSHALL

Download or read book THE ECONOMICS OF ALFRED MARSHALL written by Alfred Marshall and published by Industrial Systems Research. This book was released on 2023-10-23 with total page 1475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The famous British economist Alfred Marshall (1842 to 1924) contributed significantly to the subject. He thoroughly examined how supply, demand, and prices work in markets, studied how sensitive consumers and firms are to price changes, and explained how markets reach a balance. He also looked at historical and institutional influences on business and economic growth. This book contains four important works by Marshall: "The Economics of Industry" (1879, co-authored with Mary Paley Marshall), "Principles of Economics" (1890), "Industry and Trade" (1919), and "Money, Credit, and Commerce" (1923). These books helped shape the discipline and served as foundational texts for generations of economists and students. "Principles of Economics" was especially influential. However, the texts need updating to be more understandable and relevant for today's readers. This new book aims to keep the core ideas of Marshall's works while making them more concise and clear by modern standards.

Book Collected Works of Alfred Marshall

Download or read book Collected Works of Alfred Marshall written by Alfred Marshall and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alfred Marshall (1842-1924) is one of the most outstanding figures in the development of contemporary economics and his influence has been enormous. His most famous student, J. M. Keynes, wrote that 'he was, within his own field, the greatest in the world for a hundred years'. Marshall's correspondence and early writings are currently in print, and an evergrowing critical literature exists about him. This set makes many major and long out-of-print texts freshly available. His most famous work remains the Principles of Economics which went through eight editions in his lifetime. One highlight included here is Guillebaud's celebrated variorum edition which traces all the textual changes through the work's successive editions. Also to be welcomed is the reprinting of Official Papers, Marshall's contributions to various Royal Commissions. Besides his published books, Marshall's major contribution to economic literature was in the form of journal articles, public lectures, book reviews, and prefaces and chapters to books written by others. This less visible but equally invaluable body of work is at last accessible. It has here been specially collected and newly typeset in two volumes with an index. Prefacing this original collection is an introduction by Peter Groenewegen. --First collected edition of Alfred Marshall's works --New and comprehensive 2-volume collection of his essays and short pieces, newly typeset and indexed --Includes the celebrated variorum edition of the Principles of Economics
