Book Alcoholism The Hidden Significance

Download or read book Alcoholism The Hidden Significance written by Dr Douglas M. Baker and published by Claregate Ltd. This book was released on 2016-04-26 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carl Jung once stated: “the craving for alcohol is the equivalent, on a low level, of the spiritual thirst of our being for wholeness, expressed in medieval language: the union with God.” It is quite possible that many alcoholics have sound personalities, but have taken to drink to relieve the severe external stresses of life. The author with his medical training and his enduring work in the field of alternative medicine examines the effects of alcoholism on the subtle bodies that form the human aura. Dr. Baker also presents some of the remedies and therapies for alcoholism that allow the healing process back to wholeness to begin.

Book How to Spot Hidden Alcoholics

Download or read book How to Spot Hidden Alcoholics written by Doug Thorburn and published by Galt Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For those who may have alcoholics in their personal or professional lives, this book describes the indicators of alcoholism, many of which seem too subtle and innocuous to suggest addiction. Listing more than 80 alcoholic forms of behavior and clues, such as the supreme-being complex and mental confusion, this guide links physical signs and behavioral changes to the various stages, explaining the brain chemistry that impels the afflicted person to drink addictively and act destructively. A compelling case for awareness and identification of alcohol-related symptoms and an attempt to avoid tragic and unsatisfactory events and outcomes, this behavioral examination is supplemented with endnotes, a bibliography, and recommendations for courses of action. The research conducted for this book incorporated extensive interviews with medical professionals and hundreds of recovering alcoholics.

Download or read book Alcoholism written by Ronald Marshall and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2001 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the plethora of books on alcohol abuse and alcoholism, Alcoholism: Genetic Culpability or Social Irresponsibility is unique. It departs from a generic version of alcoholism; it examines the concepts, rationale, and research findings of all the various aspects of alcoholism and places them into two camps, namely the genetic and the social. Then, Marshall's book deals specifically with the issue of 'social irresponsibility' as a central feature in alcohol abuse; social irresponsibility carries implications for the individual as well as governments' policies. This book will be useful for academics and professionals who are concerned about the widespread problem of alcoholism. Health professional, social workers, and legislators will find this book invaluable in uncovering the nature of this phenomenon.

Book IN THE STEPS OF THE MASTER

Download or read book IN THE STEPS OF THE MASTER written by Dr. Douglas M. Baker and published by Baker eBooks Publishing. This book was released on 2014-04-16 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IN THE STEPS OF THE MASTER: Are you able to discriminate the real from the unreal in the mass of occult TEACHINGS? Dr. Douglas M. Baker, a worldwide acknowledged teacher of Esoteric Science and Metaphysics is giving you here the keys and detailed instructions to success on your journey. AWAKE,... AWAKE TO DREAMS NO MORE! But let me warn you, that once you start this journey, there is no turning back. This guide will take you there, but do not reckon on coming back. Once you have had a taste of the inner worlds, nothing in you objective world is ever the same. A consciousness expanded can never return to its original size! Man is asleep, but when he awakens, he must tread a razor-edged path. The path outlined in the major esoteric traditions is one that leads to a higher experience, to a higher state of being. All esoteric disciplines from alchemy to yoga are systems that are designed to bring about biological changes in the brain and nervous system, changes which are essential for the metamorphosis of consciousness. This book and other volumes written by Dr. Baker will take you on your personal journey without any detours. In The Secret Doctrine, Madame Blavatsky tells us that we are given in our lives opportunities to acquire enough of the right sort of information to take us to perfection, but we have not within our personality equipment the power to synthesise the knowledge we have gained. This is indeed true. There is no lack of teachings. Our library shelves are stacked with books, read and unread, our Halls of Learning bulge with enough knowledge to make Masters of us all, yet that wisdom, the deposit of the ages, given out by the initiates and Master lies practically ignored. Very few, only a handful in each country, are prepared to take the Secret Path to self-mastery. Only the Few will search deeper than that narrow margin or surface area of wisdom which merely brings comfort to some thwarted aspect of the personality. In the Bible, Jacob's Ladder is the stairway to heaven, the five initiations which you must undergo, and in yoga we speak of building the Antahkarana - the rainbow bridge to the higher worlds. This, then, is the goal - this is the journey upon which you are about to embark. As Life itself is unending, so too is this a journey without an end, and just as there is no end to life, there is no need to think of the end to this journey. Life is a flow of becoming, and so the journey is the process of becoming.

Book Japan Alcoholism and Masculinity

Download or read book Japan Alcoholism and Masculinity written by Paul A. Christensen and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2014-12-11 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depictions of an alcohol-saturated Japan populated by intoxicated salarymen, beer dispensing vending machines, and a generally tolerant approach to public drunkenness, typify domestic and international perceptions of Japanese drinking. Even the popular definitions of Japanese masculinity are interwoven with accounts of personal alcohol consumption in public settings; gender norms that exclude and marginalize the alcoholic. And yet the alcoholic also exists in Japan, and exists in a manner revealing of the dominant processes by which alcoholism and addiction are globally influenced, understood, and classified. As such, this book examines the ways in which alcoholism is understood, accepted, and taken on as an influential and lived aspect of identity among Japanese men. At the most general level, it explores how a subjective idea comes to be regarded as an objective and unassailable fact. Here such a process concerns how the culturally and temporally specific treatment methodology of Alcoholics Anonymous, upon which much of Japan’s other major sobriety association, Danshūkai, is also based, has come to be the approach in Japan to diagnosing, treating, and structuring alcoholism as an aspect of individual identity. In particular, the gendered consequences, how this process transpires or is resisted by Japanese men, are considered, as they offer substantial insight into how categories of illness and disease are created, particularly the ramifications of dominant forms of such categorizations across increasingly porous cultural borders. Ramifications that become starkly obvious when Japan’s persistent connection between notions of masculinity and alcohol consumption are considered from the perspective of the sober alcoholic and sobriety group member.

Book The SAGE Encyclopedia of Alcohol

Download or read book The SAGE Encyclopedia of Alcohol written by Scott C. Martin and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2014-12-16 with total page 2823 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alcohol consumption goes to the very roots of nearly all human societies. Different countries and regions have become associated with different sorts of alcohol, for instance, the “beer culture” of Germany, the “wine culture” of France, Japan and saki, Russia and vodka, the Caribbean and rum, or the “moonshine culture” of Appalachia. Wine is used in religious rituals, and toasts are used to seal business deals or to celebrate marriages and state dinners. However, our relation with alcohol is one of love/hate. We also regulate it and tax it, we pass laws about when and where it’s appropriate, we crack down severely on drunk driving, and the United States and other countries tried the failed “Noble Experiment” of Prohibition. While there are many encyclopedias on alcohol, nearly all approach it as a substance of abuse, taking a clinical, medical perspective (alcohol, alcoholism, and treatment). The SAGE Encyclopedia of Alcohol examines the history of alcohol worldwide and goes beyond the historical lens to examine alcohol as a cultural and social phenomenon, as well—both for good and for ill—from the earliest days of humankind.

Book Unlocking the Emotional Brain

Download or read book Unlocking the Emotional Brain written by Bruce Ecker and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-04-22 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly influential volume, now in a much-expanded second edition, delivers major advances for psychotherapy, all empirically grounded in memory reconsolidation neuroscience. A great increase of therapeutic effectiveness can be gained, thanks to a clear map of the brain's innate core process of transformational change—a process that does not require use of any particular system or techniques and is therefore remarkably versatile. Twenty-six case examples show the decisive ending of a vast range of major symptoms, including depression, anxiety, panic, shame, self-devaluing, anger, perfectionism, alcohol abuse, sexual aversion, compulsive eating and obesity, paralyzed self-expression, and teen ADHD—all transformed through deeply resolving underlying disturbances such as complex trauma, lifelong oppression by systemic racism and homophobia, childhood sexual molestation, parental narcissistic domination, violent assault trauma, natural disaster trauma, and childhood traumatic aloneness and neglect. This is a transdiagnostic, transtheoretical, lucid understanding of therapeutic action, based, for the first time in the history of the psychotherapy field, on rigorous empirical knowledge of an internal mechanism of change, and it achieves a fundamental unification of the confusingly fragmented psychotherapy field: diverse systems no longer seem to belong to different worlds, because they now form a wonderful repertoire of options for facilitating the same core process of transformational change, as shown in case examples from AEDP, Coherence Therapy, EFT, EMDR, IFS, IPNB, ISTDP, psychedelic-assisted therapy, and SE. It's now clear why therapy systems that differ strikingly in technique and theory can produce the same quality of liberating change. Practitioners who value deep connection with their clients are richly rewarded by the experiential depth that this core process accesses, where no awareness had previously reached, whether sessions are done in person or via online video. It is an embarrassment of riches, because in addition we gain the decisive resolution of several longstanding, polarizing debates regarding the nature of symptom production, the prevalence of attachment issues, the operation of traumatic memory, the functions of the client-therapist relationship, the role of emotional arousal in the process of change, and the relative importance of specific versus non-specific factors.

Book Alcoholism and Drug Dependence

Download or read book Alcoholism and Drug Dependence written by J. Madden and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is for me, as President of the Merseyside Lancashire & Cheshire Council on Alcoholism, a signal privilege to write a brief foreword to these Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. During the week experts, from the world over, in all those disciplines which have a contribution to make to the solution of the problems of alcoholism and drug dependence, surveyed recent advances in our knowledge of the aetiology, epidemiology, early recognition, management, and the social and industrial implications of these twin scourges of the contemporary scene. The discussions were most helpful and enlightening even when a wide spectrum of conflicting views and experiences were revealed. The justification for adding yet another volume to the growing literature in this field is two-fold; first, that those taking part in the conference can study at leisure and in depth the transactions of the conference; and secondly, that those who were unable to attend might benefit from the most recent views of international experts in the diverse facets of one of the major current problems in world health.
