Download or read book Greek New Testament Manuscripts from Albania written by Didier Lafleur and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-06-19 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Greek New Testament Manuscripts from Albania Didier Lafleur and Luc Brogly explore the riches of a unique collection of twenty-one Byzantine artefacts, among which the world-famous Beratinus 1 and Beratinus 2, both included by UNESCO in the Memory of the World Register. First described at the end of the 19th century by Anthimos Alexoudis, then revealed to Western scholarship by Pierre Batiffol, yet this collection has remained unknown to textual critics and no major analysis of it has been performed in over a century. Based on a fresh autopsy of the documents, the book describes the artefacts physically and analyses textual features and variant readings of each. This monograph will be of vital interest to any scholar or advanced student in the fields of Greek New Testament textual criticism and codicology.

Book Early Albanian Bible Translations in Todhri Script

Download or read book Early Albanian Bible Translations in Todhri Script written by Robert Elsie and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-10-23 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The copybooks with Bible translation in Todhri script that the Austrian consul, Johann Georg von Hahn, came across during his travels through Albania in the mid-nineteenth century were long regarded as lost. Their discovery in the Austrian National Library, after a century and a half of oblivion, could rightly be described as a sensation for Albanian studies. These little copybooks have previously never been transcribed or translated. Indeed they have probably not been read and used since the nineteenth century. Todhri script was an original Albanian alphabet invented and used in central Albania in the eighteenth century. The last person to write in Todhri script is said to have died in the 1930s.

Book Holy Bible Aionian Edition Albanian Bible New Testament

Download or read book Holy Bible Aionian Edition Albanian Bible New Testament written by Nainoia Nainoia Inc. and published by . This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Bible Aionian Edition is the world's first Bibleun-translation! (free at AionianBible.org and Google Playstore) What is an un-translation? Bibles are translated into each of ourlanguages from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek. Occasionally, the best word translation cannot be found and these words are transliteratedletter by letter. Four well-known transliterations are Christ, baptism, angel, and apostle. The meaning is thenpreserved more accurately through context and a lexicon. The Aionian Bibleun-translates and instead transliterates ten additional Aionian Glossarywords to help us better understand God's love for individuals and allmankind, and the nature of after-life destinies. The key Greek word un-translated in the Aionian Bible is aionios, typically translated as eternal and also world or age. However, aionios means something much more wonderful thaneternal! Ancient Greeks used the adjective aionios to meanentirety and completeness, such as the complete amount from the beginning to the end of the aion, but never eternal time. Soaionios is the perfect description of God's Word which has everythingwe need for life and godliness! And the aionios life promised in John3:16 is not a simple ticket to eternal life in the future, but theinvitation through faith to a complete life now! VisitAionianBible.org/Preface for further explanation. The un-translation helps us to see aionios and the additional AionianGlossary words in context. The original translation is not changed at alland an inline note is inserted in sixty-three Old Testament and two hundredthree New Testament verses. Also to facilitate parallel study and use ofStrong's Concordance, apocryphal text is removed and most variant versenumbering is mapped to the English standard. The Aionian Bible republishes public domain Bible texts. We thank our sources at ebible.org, unbound.biola.edu, and dbs.org. The Holy Bible Aionian Edition is copyrighted with the Creative Commons No Derivative Works license allowing 100% freedom to copy and print, but further editorial and translation work must begin with the sources. Why purple? King Jesus' word is royal... and purple is our favorite color!

Book Albania and the Albanians in the Annual Reports of the British and Foreign Bible Society 1805 1955

Download or read book Albania and the Albanians in the Annual Reports of the British and Foreign Bible Society 1805 1955 written by David Hosaflook and published by . This book was released on 2017-11-14 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The British and Foreign Bible Society was established in 1804, at the onset of an era of unprecedented Protestant missionary expansion across the globe. Because the foundational pillar of Protestantism is "Sola Scriptura" (the Bible alone is the final authority for faith and practice), the first objective of Protestant missions was making the Bible available globally. The Bible Society had a limited focus (it would publish the text of the Scriptures alone, without any accompanying notes or comments) but an unlimited vision (it aimed to publish Bibles in every language possible). It was a massive, privately funded, nondenominational Christian organization that asked one essential question when contemplating whether or not to engage with a particular nation: "Do the people there have Bibles in their mother tongue that they can read for themselves?" In its first one hundred years, the British and Foreign Bible Society translated, printed, or distributed Scriptures in an astounding 412 of the world's languages-an average of four new languages per year. Remarkably, the Albanian language became a focus of the BFBS was early as 1816, just twelve years after the BFBS was established. Albanian was approximately the twentieth project the BFBS undertook. When the BFBS entered Albanian history, there was no Albanian Bible or New Testament available to the people. This is almost incredible when considering the many centuries of Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Christian influence in Albanian territories. The publication of an Albanian New Testament in 1827 was a triumph for the Albanian people and became a standard text for foreign linguists studying Albanian, putting the language on the world's linguistic map. Between 1827 and 1908 alone, the British and Foreign Bible Society printed approximately 55,000 copies of the Albanian Scriptures, in both Gheg and Tosk, in twenty-seven unique editions. The society translated and published all the books of the New Testament and several books from the Old Testament. Perhaps more significantly, they took the initiative to distribute the books among the Albanian people, amidst extremely harsh circumstances and the opposition of religious and political leaders. Each year the BFBS printed a detailed annual report about its work all over the world. The information in the reports was intended to be a condensed summary of the Society's work, as reported by its workers. The Albanians were first mentioned in the 1817 report and were mentioned in nearly every successive report until 1955. This resource is a compilation of material, extracted from the annual reports, about Albania and the Albanians, but it also contains information about other nations insofar as such information assists readers to understand the context and progress of the Albanian work in the context of the Ottoman Balkans.Because the BFBS began its work for the Albanian Bible at the beginning of the nineteenth century and continued working intensely until the communist era, its reports are useful as a running historical commentary and chronology of Albanian conditions predating the Albanian National Awakening and extending well beyond Albania's emergence as an independent nation. As demonstrated by the lengthy index in the back of this book, the extracts herein contain information about a wide breadth of topics and will serve historians and linguists as a fascinating reference work. This book's primary value, however, is to readers who wish to understand the long and adventurous story of how the Albanians received and started reading the Bible in their own dialect, and how something so simple became so significant to Albania's national cause.

Book excerpt: Masterful in its simplicity, Chronicle in Stone is a touching coming-of-age story and a testament to the perseverance of the human spirit. Surrounded by the magic of beautiful women and literature, a boy must endure the deprivations of war as he suffers the hardships of growing up. His sleepy country has just thrown off centuries of tyranny, but new waves of domination inundate his city. Through the boy’s eyes, we see the terrors of World War II as he witnesses fascist invasions, allied bombings, partisan infighting, and the many faces of human cruelty—as well as the simple pleasures of life. Evacuating to the countryside, he expects to find an ideal world full of extraordinary things, but discovers instead an archaic backwater where a severed arm becomes a talisman and deflowered girls mysteriously vanish. Woven between the chapters of the boy’s story are tantalizing fragments of the city’s history. As the devastation mounts, the fragments lose coherence, and we perceive firsthand how the violence of war destroys more than just buildings and bridges.
